Always grateful for your videos, Rowena! Just started my master's degree in September and spent most of it at home lol which I thought was going fine, I felt on top of it and not too impacted because I live far away from campus and I'm good with not being social so it felt like I got the time spent on public transport back to study more. Semester ended three days ago and I've been crying, potatoing for these past three days... I'm completely crushed by my expectations, the workload, loneliness, feeling isolated. I live with my mum but it's not like we're crazy close. I have sooo much work to do over the holidays and I'm stressed tf out but instead of going crazy from 8am to 10pm every day until Christmas, I think I'll take it slow, break down every task and do something relaxing in between each study session. I can't delay relaxation as much as I thought I could, and skincare/running/reading before bed barely cuts it anyway (esp since I dropped all my personal readings in the evening to study instead hahaha). This video comes at the best time. I have to listen to how exhausted my body and brain feel. I wish I had a friend like you in real life, because we seem to think about similar topics a lot! Sorry for rambling lmao it felt really good to finally get this all out. Love you Rowena, stay safe and have a good end of year💖

I love the idea of self-care and figuring out the things that work for you, however I do have a question: I try to add acts of self-care into my life (meditating, reading, resting, walking in nature, journaling) and I adore every single of these things when I do them and I do feel they give me energy and happiness; however when I go back to my 'real life' tasks like my uni work or parttime job all the positive effects of the self-care is gone in a second. I can try to meditate and sleep and calm myself down but when these tasks come back I feel drained of my energy in an instant. I don't know what to do about this, because no matter what I do in my own time, the majority of my days is still filled with dread, anxiety, exhaustion.. How do I find self-care activities that make me feel energized; that really re-charge my battery to be able to handle my 'real life'?
@bluemoomelon3 жыл бұрын
wow. I relate to this so much. It's been a source of frustration for me tbh. Maybe, we might be missing out on something. Like I, personally, don't do enough things for my social wellness (due to my social anxiety), so maybe I don't feel much better because I always feel like I'm alone in my journey? I have no answers for your questions really, I just wanted to say that I relate to how you feel with how these things feel like they're never enough.

Hey Rowena, thanks for the insightful thoughts -- educational as always. I've been watching your content for some time now and enjoy it quite a lot. Do you have any thoughts or advice on how to create social wellness for someone who, due to their current life circumstances or health situation, has no one to lean on during difficult, stressful times, thus suffering painful loneliness? Maybe you or someone you know were in such a position at some point in your life? What did you do? Stay safe!
@rowena4 жыл бұрын
hi Karol, thank you for such kind words! ❤️ ahh yes I was the most alone and isolate when I looked the happiest outside when I was in college. it may sound cliche and cheesy but I’ve learned that the most important and often times the only person I truly need to lean on is myself. finding that strength and peace within first, and more often than not, everything external follows. reconnecting with old friends, new serendipitous relationships form, etc 😌 for this reason, I created an online community where you can chat with likeminded people on an app called Vibely if you’re interested (it’s linked above). I also made a video recently on the art of being alone but not lonely-not sure if you’ve watch it already I’ll link it here just in case 😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3izlIKifMeCga8 happy holidays friend 💕 sending my love~

Thank you so much for responding! I'm sorry I didn't reply right away, I got caught up in holiday activities and a bunch of tedious daily tasks. Thank you for wishing me happy holidays, I hope yours were happy and peaceful as well :) I understand what you mean when you write about finding strength and peace within, it's good to hear this mantra from someone who also on many occasions has found themselves overwhelmed by difficult emotions and strives to learn how to get through them. I'll keep that in mind and do my best. Yes, I've seen your video on being alone but not lonely, it actually helped me to think a little more positively at the time :) I'll definitely check Vibely, it seems interesting! Thank you once more for all the creative ideas you've been putting out here. Every little push out of a potato rut and towards the best a potato can be is much needed ;) Have a happy 2021 and take care!

I've found journaling to be one of the most powerful things for emotional (especially) and mental self care. It can be absolutely any type at all - brain dump, ranting, asking yourself specific questions, working your way through the questions and tools in a Rowena video 😉 - all of it helps. Mixing up writing and visual stuff is fun too, but not necessary. Slowing down activities are the next most useful one for me. Essentially 'things that bring me peace'. For me this often means making a cup of tea and reading a book, sitting quietly, or listening to a relaxing playlist I've made (all with tea haha, it's like a gentle hug 😊). Good luck to you! 💕
