This is s great adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac, a play from the late 1800's based on the true story of a French Nobleman in the 17th century. If you've never read the book or seen the play, it's set in the same time period as the 3 musketeers and there are lots of little references to that period. For example, when he uses the tennis racket you find a direct connection to the rapiers used in the original. Instead of firefighters, he's around a group of comical soldiers.

As a large nosed person, I've always adored Cyrano. It's such a classic, and its "our" only mainstream property. That's honestly why it annoys me that Dinklage hijacked the IP and made it about dwarfism. I get that dwarves have it a hell of a lot tougher than us, but... cmon... we have essentially 1 property. 1.

When they were "dancing" the hose, that was a 2-1/2" hose. At higher working pressures, one man simply can't hold it securely. If it gets loose under pressure, it can do real damage. The main reason it's such a serious offense to drive over a fire hose is that the operators have to lean into the hose. And they have to coordinate their movements. If the lead wants to point it upward, the others behind him have to push downward, and so forth. If you drive over the hose, you interrupt the pressure, and the operators fall forward, where they are when you pass on and restore the pressure, but they may well lose control. Filled with water, it is extremely heavy, and the nozzle can kill. If they are up a ladder, when the pressure comes back, it can throw you off the ladder. A 2-1/2" line is no plaything. One man can just hold a 1-1/2" hose at pressure. That's the utility line for inside and close work. A 2-1/2" with a straight nozzle can cut a roof to pieces. With a fog nozzle, it can stop a room full of fire in three seconds.

As a firefighter, let me answer a few of your questions about operating a fire hose. One person can use a fire hose without it throwing them around. With the size of hose they use in this movie, one firefighter could do a lot of the movements of the hose that are shown in this movie, but not much more than what is shown here. The main reason you need more firefighters on a hose is the weight of the water in the hose, but the extra firefighters also help resists the recoil from the pressure. It is very difficult for one firefighter to move the hose more than a few feet at a time when it is full of water. It can be done, but not if you want to make sure you are spraying the water where you want it to be. For larger size hoses, there are techniques for one firefighter to operate a hose, but you have to stay in one place and you can only move the last couple of feet of the hose to change where you aim the hose.
@johnhenkel1828
@johnhenkel1828 2 жыл бұрын
Correction, I went back and watched it again and realized the hoses are larger than I first thought, so absolutely it would take more than one firefighter to move those hoses without it getting away and probably hurting someone.

Ex-firefighter here. And to answer your question about the hose......Most definitely YES. It's hard for most people to contemplate just what kind of force that a fire hose is capable of. Just trying to lug one of those around when fully charged is a chore. It has been a while but I believe on average the hoses have a psi (pounds per square inch) at around 150.

Just wanted to say its hard to define why your Reaction Channel works so well while others leave me cold, cynical and bemused. It's almost certainly down to just that genuine joy you seem to express watching all this glorious mad movie shit unfold in front of you and yes, for this reaction it helps that Steve Martin is just incredible. Anyway, I've bounced off a lot of other reaction channels but yours remains evergreen awesome. This was a favorite of mine as a teenager!! Loved this film!! Steve Martin's character was a man who could handle himself physically and mentally (love the insult scene in the bar!!), had a wonderful spirit about him and could communicate it (through his writing to Roxanne), but was awkward because of one precieved drawback, his nose. It's the age old question of ... are you going to focus on your one 'flaw' and ignore all the good things about yourself? Literally cutting off your nose to spite your face!! It's a movie I wish was made more often, great themes, great acting, funny, dialogue is witty and treats you like an adult! Thank you, Pippy, for reacting to this movie!! Loved it!! Awesome braids today!! See you Monday, Valentines Day, for Sleepless!! 💝

Secondly you assert that her mere presence in the car Matthew Brodrick was driving caused her such physical anguish and mental trauma that she couldn't act. It wasn't that changing her looks to resemble all the other Barbie dolls in Hollywood made her less distinct and marketable.
