Me too. Roy and Dale were my heroes. My dad met Roy at a horse show. Roy wanted to buy a palomino horse that dad was riding, but dads boss said no sale. Dad never forgot that meeting. Dad always emulated Roy and Gene Autry with his own guitar. Dad had pistols and holsters like Roy, and would let me fondle them. They were never loaded. The bullets in the belt were fake. I don’t know if Roy’s were real bullets or not. Maybe blanks.

In early 1966, Roy and Dale toured in Vietnam...and somehow I was selected to be their guide when they visited the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in An Khe, RVN. They didn't spend much time with us as their schedule was packed full, but they were a class act.

Years ago I visited his Museum and loved it. He was very smart and told his family that once the museum no longer made money (over time, all of us 'old-tymers' were dying off), to sell all the stuff and close it. Reality sucks and it's sad that no permanent history of him and that lovely time is now gone.

I was given a n invite by Dale to go to his funeral down the street from my Moms house. I wanted to show my respects although the evening before the funeral my father had a heart attack in Texas so I rushed to Texas instead of going to his funeral at the cemetery. He was such a cool guy. We used to have a few at a bar in Victorville now and then. He always wore his guns and yes they were loaded. I don't even know if he had a permit although the Law enforcement adored him like everyone else. Dale was such a sweetheart herself.

my family used to attend free concerts by the sons of the pioneers, inside the knots berry farm amusement park, which was also free at that time. It was some kind of important anniversary date for the band , and Roy Rogers returned for the entire performance , with no fanfare beyond an introduction from the band at the start of the show.

I loved going to Knots Berry Farm on holidays for their famous chicken dinners. We would sometimes have to wait 1 - 1 1/2 hours in line to get in to eat. I grew up watching Roy, Dale, Pat, Trigger and Nellybell the jeep (LOL). He was such a kind genuine guy. He and his family dealt with several tragedies, and it never broke their spirits. When AMC only showed old movies, they put together a tribute to him and even had him singing in his home studio. I recorded that video and one on Gene Autry too. I've been to Gene's museum (if it's still there) but sadly never got to go to Roy's. Great memories of some good folks!

I watched the Roy Rogers show every time it came on tv. Watched a lot of Gene Autry, who was my dads idol. Both men could yodel like a Swiss mountain man. Once, at a horse show, where dad was showing a palomino parade horse, Roy approached dad and offered to buy the yellow horse. Dads boss said no thanks but dad never forgot that meeting. Sadly, I never got to either of the museums. Both of those singers were my early introduction to music. For years, all I knew was Western Swing and polka by Lawrence welk.

I don't think so, he was pushing it at 30+ years old in 1941. Make no mistake, some men his age DID enlist, but it probably was more limited service if so.
