As a veteran who has needed help, various organisations have been very kind and helpful. The RBL was not one of them. In fact I found them hostile to the idea. I may have just been unlucky but the same happened to other vets I know.

Remembrance means a lot to veterans and it’s painful to watch the 1844 military charities take the piss each year from generous donations. A sector that has over 3bn in their bank accounts with the Royal British Legion having over £80m in own use assets, with over £240m in long term investments and another £80+m in other assets. The Royal British Legion wage bill is now over £35m a year 😳

Remembrance for me. Is remember the few people whom I served with who lost their lives during service. Also to remember my 2 nephews who died serving their country. One of which was killed by a terrorist attack. His actions went above and beyond his duty. During the attack, he managed to sound the alarm and evacuate RUC officers and his colleagues. Unfortunately, he was last out and killed. RIP. My friends and family members.

I respect the poppy appeal greatly, but it's time that whatever funds necessary to house and tend to these deserving people was willingly given to them. Our government cares far more for unwanted, undeserving migrants, whose very presence in this country insults the sacrifices made by these brave people.

THE CEOS of these charities plus others who are unworthy of receiving a penny! almost, get their GREEDY hands on the majority of the funds which they should give to the SOLDIERS! IF we HAD a decent government this would not be the case. One can only hope they suffer with their consciences SHOULD they have one. Probably not with their luxury pads, holidays etc, etc.

I would gladly give to veterans but not the fat cats in charge of it,charity means to give your time or money to a good cause for free, it's not to big fat salaries and pensions.Our dad gave his charity for six and a half years fighting the germans North Africa/Italian Campaign,he never asked for a penny from the British Legion,he was told by his leaders he would come back to a land fit for hero's, only came back to greedy folk who never fought and be laughed at,thank god he died forty years ago at 66 to see the state of this country now.

Rubbish! Nothing stays static forever, the world goes forward, not back, and things are a lot different now from how they were then; that is part of the natural order of things. I was born in 1954 and I have certainly seen a good many changes in my lifetime. Taking things all round, while we are no longer a world superpower, Britain is still a great country, as great as it ever was---I am proud of the age I live in.
