Informative piece of work. Keep it up, I watched around 20 odd videos on clutch cable adjustment before this one, but no one else could explain the basics. Good luck.

Had a quick question, does the himlayan rear wheel move considerably, when the clutch cable is engaged, i mean the lever is pulled back, i was setting it up the other day on the center stand and putting the gear on the 1st, and having the clutch engaged, i mean pressed, the wheel was moving like it was having no affect, is this normal ?

Thank you, thank you very much! In the first 500 km. service on my Himalayan they adjusted the clutch and left almost no free play, now I corrected it with your instructions, perfectly clear. It is incredible that an official service did that. I traveled 250 km. with the clutch almost without free play on the road. Do you think it will have affected it? My thanks again for this and all your videos. Greetings and a hug from Argentina !!

Thanks mate, really glad to hear the the vid was of some help. And dont worry 250 kms is not enough to cause any serious clutch damage. Just keep and eye out and keep adjusting with enough slack as and when required. Stay safe

The way you make videos is very informative. I have a request ,Could you please make a video series on himalayan rebuild like jeet bhasker made for ktm 390. It would be of great help to all. Cant find any on youtube.
@leuheanrede4 жыл бұрын
I am aware of Jeet Bhasker channels. My point is this, why open an implacably running engine when I am doing every thing in my power to make sure the it will easy cross 80000 kms and maybe even more. With good riding practices and proper timely maintenance and engine should do above 80000 kms easy. I have completed 54000 kms on KTM and still running like new, along with other bikes that are well over 50000 kms and not even the clutch plates have been changed. I am expectecting to see 1,00,000 ;) Why open it then Cheers :)

Just thinks about this - isn’t there a flaw in the way you measure the pull? Closer to pivot point smaller play, further from pivot larger play. If you measured at the end it wouldn’t it be greater than 15mm?
@leuheanrede4 жыл бұрын
Yes :) you are absolutely correct. And that is the gist of it. Thanks for pointing this out, I should have included this in the video. The point is that it has to be measured on the farthest end of the clutch lever and hand grip(not the bar end weight). And once that is done it equates to what Enfields owner manual recommends. So the play of 10 to 15 mm at clutch lever end and grip end, is equal to 2-4 mm at the beginning of the clutch lever and yoke( as shown in the picture in user manual) Just so we dont get confused with the measurement, a lot of manufacturers recommend measuring the gap at the beginning of the clutch lever rather then at the end. (as few of us may misjudge and might end up measuring it somewhere in the middle- and that would lead to a completely incorrect play adjustment) Cheers :)

If you moved your ruler left a bit more your play will be significantly greater - this can be seen just looking at the left side of your ruler versus your right side. Am super appreciative of your videos.

leuheanrede, if I keep the clutch play as shown by you,while my bike has it's engine running,my rear wheel starts rotating if I put the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in-i tighten the clutch till just the wheel starts rotating but stops if I put my foot on it and then doesn't rotate,but the free play is very less-am I doing the right thing???
@complexbentsimpler Жыл бұрын
But in manual of Himalayan isnt the free play recommended is jus 2-3mm? Isnt 10mm-20mm too much?
@kunalkundra6492 ай бұрын
The 2-3mm free play is not calculated by the lever movement, it is calculated as the gap in the clutch pivot. So the gap should be 2-3 mm as free play when you pull back the lever.

Great video!! Can the clutch lever be adjusted for closer engagement ? My daughter has small hands and finds the reach for the lever a little too far
@leuheanrede Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, glad you found this useful. Unfortunately stock clutch lever cannot be adjusted for reach, its best to go for good aftermarket adjustable levers. Thats the only way to go, as trying to adjust stock ones with more free play will lead to improper clutch engagement thus leading to hard gear shift and faster wear and tear for components.
