I commented on one your videos last week about how since I was little girl I loved waking round graveyards. Started from my grandad and dad. My dad is now bed bound and I have shown him your channel. We brought him a tablet last month, he hasn’t used it yet . I’ve spent last hour setting it up for him, bc he wants to watch your channel!!!! So thank you for cheering up my dad , your his first interest in internet !!!!

@@deadgoodwalks please dont apologise. I am a newbi here, and I was so happy to find your channel. And find a community who appreciates the beauty in graveyards. Many find it a morbid interest. I have learnt so much from my grandad and dad. I’ll go deeper and say this past year has turned life upside down, I am so lucky that I have my dad still with us. And it’s been a lovely afternoon sitting with him, watching your walk-through some very interesting cemeteries. Thank you for your comment.😊

@@catherinerickard699 Hey! I live in the United States, and there is a channel that your father may like called “Hollywood Graveyard.” A gentleman by the name of Arthur Dark started the channel a few years ago. He has expanded quite a bit. He interacts with his followers to post famous grave sites from videos his followers send to him. He started out by going to famous Hollywood Cemeteries of old stars, new stars and people famous around the world. He also talks about the cemetery that he is visiting. If you have a moment please check it out and see if it may be something that your father would like.

That grave, near the end of the video, is probably James Edward Cranstoun, tenth Baron Cranstoun. Died in London 1869, succeeded by his unmarried cousin (Charles Frederick) who died the same year, at which point this Scottish baronetcy became extinct. He was born on the island of St Kitts, where the family had properties, as well as in Scotland. On the left side of the arms which first drew your attention are seen the three cranes (type of bird) which hark back to the name Cranstoun.

Hello, a small but very helpful piece of advice: always take a small but very good flashlight with you, then you can always read everything well, no matter what the weather, if you shine the light on the text from the side. You can also see everything well in the mausoleum even when it's dark!! Best wishes from Austria!

Thank you for this tour Dan, I enjoyed it immensely, and may I say, well filmed. I notice that quite a few comments to your video refer to the 'unkept state' of the cemetery, with comments like 'poorly maintained' or 'nobody cares'. These comments are no doubt made by misguided people who assume that this is a 'lawn cemetery'. It is not. It is a Victorian garden cemetery and consists of 72 acres and over 65,000 graves, vaults and mausoleums. It takes a lot of hard work to maintain the grounds and graves, as any member of 'The Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery' will tell you. We care about it. Looking forward to part 2. Atb Mike

Hi Mike, Thank you. Yes I agree, I think it's mainly American viewers that expect every cemetery to be perfect, which they're right to do so as it's the done thing over there and that's what they're use to. I imagine there's a lot of red tape involved in UK cemeteries before you can carry out repairs etc... You guys are doing a great job at Kensal, there's a lot to do especially with the main crypt which I hope will be open again soon.

The General Cemetery of All Souls, Kensal Green, was the most fashionable burial ground in Victorian England, and London's first private garden cemetery. Maj Gen Casement, 1788-1844 (Bengal Army) - like many British Army officers - is not in that cenotaph 😉He died of cholera at Cossipore, North Kolkata, West Bengal just before he was due to return to England. Through deferring his return he fell ill and passed away. He is buried in Lower Circular Road Cemetery in Kolkata and his widow erected the Kensal Green Grade II memorial. Fairly common practice to erect cenotaphs back then when the body was buried elsewhere or lost at sea. English Heritage refers.

I saw some British soldiers served in lndia. Generally they were buried in lndia 2or3 acres of land systematically without constructing big tombstone but they kept name stones with short space. When I was a Christian Priest, some British people send letter to verify the grave from Uk. They send some money to remove the covered soil of the grave and also renewed the grave. They wanted his grave photo. His name was John Love. He died in 1808 in British war

It's disappointing to see this cemetery not being looked after or maintained like it should be. Families pay alot of money to Bury their loved ones there. It's a beautiful place and should be treated as such.

It is a real shame that they don’t maintain the grounds.

Thea Canonero Altieri, seems she was part of the Italian aristocracy, the family had a lot of influence at one time. After seeing the spirit of ecstasy, had to google, wiki has a lot to say about the family.

You would think that if the queen in the 1970s took that much trouble to move some of her ancestors to St George Chapel and have them in a mausoleum or buried she would of done the same to these? But maybe no as they have been there 150 years, but the others she moved had died around 75 to 100yrs previous.

My word, mow the grass. The grounds should be maintained because its their final resting place and because visitors go to these places for solace, it should be kept up better.

Sad that even with royalty there the grounds and monuments are not looked after. Back I the day I bet it looked wonderful. You would think they could hire someone to presure wash and mow.
