"It's very Grim-dark." Warhammer 40K is literally the origin of the Grim-dark term. It comes from the phrase: "Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods." originally spoken by Vulkan one of the Primarchs. Edit: The term is actually attributed to the tagline of Warhammer 40K which Is "In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war." but the more complex version originates from Vulkan's speech, and to be perfectly honest I'm not sure which came first.

@midgetydeath3 жыл бұрын
In Rogue Trader they are given sizes such as the Lunar-class being 5.1 kilometers long. Everything is bigger in 40K post RT, though, but we weren't given direct sizes. Instead they say they have gun batteries the size of cities. So, by modern standards that means the Lunar-class would be either 51 kilometers long or 510 kilometers long. In the Great Crusade there were thousands of fleets of tens of thousands of ships each and that's just under one part of the Crusade. 9:45 that is a Plaguebearer the lowest rank of daemon that serves the Chaos god Nurgle. Nurgle is the chaos god of rot, decay, desease and fear/hopelessness. Those in the background you see are called Tempestus Scions.13:35 the old dude you see there are either an astropath/sanctioned psyker/navigator.16:59 that is a Necron, more specifically a Necron overlord with a ressurection orb and warscythe. 19:05 those are called Banshees. 19:42 that is a warp-spider, just like the banshees this an elven warrior. 20:52 that is a tyranid, that breed specifically i think a lector which serves as a terroriser and assasin. as for the blue astartes they are most likely, due to their iconography, sons of Guilliman called Ultramarines. The red astartes / spacemarines are most likely the sons of Sanguinius called The Blood Angels. The green astartes you are referring to are most likely the Salamanders spacemarine chapter.

18:44 - The red-haired aliens are members of the Eldar race (essentially space elves). They are one of the types of Aspect Warriors. In particular, they are called "Howling Banshees". The idea is that their masks release a scream that is capable of stunning an opponent (in the past this basically meant that in the first round of melee combat they were always going to strike first) and their swords are capable of cutting through armor like paper. Their heads aren't really that long, either. It's mostly helmet. 19:28 - Another Eldar. In this case either a ranger. They are snipers that rely heavily on cover in order to survive. Caught out in the open and, well, you see how well that worked out for him. 19:32 - Yet another Eldar. This aspect warrior is called a warp spider. Considering it has the blades it would be the Exarch, which is basically a squad leader. Eldar lead very structured lives since they feel emotions to a higher degree then humans and this can lead to ... err... problems if left unchecked (to put it bluntly, they became so debased at one point that they accidentally murder-fucked a Chaos God into existence and it is now devouring their souls). Most Eldar will dedicate themselves to an Aspect (think martial art) in order to find stability. These aspects each have a different style of combat and when used correctly can be absolutely devastating in play. For instance Howling Banshees are good at taking down armored targets like space marines, Fire Dragons are anti-tank infantry, Dark Reapers focus on long range combat with heavy weaponry, and Warp Spiders are fast "jump" infantry that generally work better on lightly armored targets (their weapons fire filaments that can cut flesh easily enough but can't penetrate armor). These are just a few of the types of aspect warriors, mind you. 21:04 - That is a Tyranid creature called a "Lictor". They are creatures that are sent ahead of a 'nid swarm to help find planets for them to devour. They are *very* good at getting around unseen.

The guys with the sniper looking guns were just the basic soldiers of the imperium of man. They have a lasgun (however thats spelled) which can punch through solid concrete really easily. But thats one of the weakest guns. And the zombie guys are corrupted space marines and other races. They belong to the warp god Nurgle (Nurgle loves you)

The guys you talk about really liking who look like the scouts are inquisitorial stormtroopers. They are also called Tempestus Scions and are basically the special forces of the Imperial Guard are are basically the best the Imperial Guard has to offer. Theyre also known for tricking newer 40k table to players into attacking them, thinking they are regular IG troops and then sitting stunned when their Space Marine squad was massacred by the Tempestus Scion squad.

That ‘round’ in the space marines head that you notice at 18:50 is what’s called a service stud. They are something that space marines wear that indicate how many years they have served so far (being a space marine is obviously a lifetime commitment). There are different colors that mean different amounts of time and the exact number of years a color represents will vary from chapter to chapter. Most individual studs signify 50 or 100 years of service per stud.

The 'zombie' with the minigun was actually a Nurgle-Corrupted Terminator Space Marine. The ones with horns or other appendages but no armor, are usually daemons, but the ones in armor are Plague Marines (Mostly members of the Death Guard Legion who were corrupted by Nurgle.) Also, the guy with the I with an eyeball through it is an Astropath (A psychic communicator in Warhammer, that's how they do distress calls and intersystem communications.) They have a special mutation that allows them to project their consciousness into the Warp, and communicate with distant worlds.
@AngryGeth3 жыл бұрын
The zombie looking things are Plague Bearers, Daemons of the Chaos God Nurgle. The one with the minigun was actually a Hellbrute, a Chaos Marine that has been interred in the lifesaving Sarcophagus of a Dreadnought. Normally considered an honor by loyalists, those who have fallen to Chaos consider it to be a torturous hell (And for good reason, that thing is meant to be pure tech, but if you look closely you can see a good chunk of it is actually flesh). The guys getting annihilated at around 12:30 are what looks to be Karskins, or possibly Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, both are elite Guardsman units, they're considered well equipped by most standards, with carapace armour and hotshot lasguns that can punch through even powered armour like what is worn by Astartes.

The witch-y aliens from the Dawn of War 2 and 3 trailers are the Eldar, the 40k equivalent of elves. The ones with the red flowing hair and swords are an Eldar unit called Howling Banshees. Also the big tentacle faced thing at the end of the DoW2 trailer was a Tyranid. Regicide is what they call chess in 40k. The soldiers with the inquisitor were storm troopers, and the green monsters were daemons (that's how GW spell it because trademark) of the chaos god Nurgle, and a couple of Death Guard chaos space marines
@JackGamer1933 жыл бұрын
The 'recce troops' you mentioned are Imperial Guard soldiers (normal non-augmented humans). In this case I think they're Kasrkins, which are basically special forces imperial guard with better armour and lasguns than you standard conscripted guardsmen. They're facing plague marines (traitor space marines corrupted by disease and pestilence by the Chaos God Nurgle) as well as plague daemons. Kasrkins are usually great but this time they were facing some huge thing that was way out of their league and probably needed actual space marines to deal with it. The trailer with the 'Cthulhu' monster involved space marines, the Eldar (space elves with hyper advanced tech that used to rule the galaxy before their hedonism and excesses destroyed their civilisation and birth the Chaos God Slaneesh) and the Tyranids (basically a hyper intelligent hive-mind of creatures that evolve insanely quickly and consume entire worlds of their biomass and minerals). The Tyranids are probably the primary threat to all life in the galaxy right now.

10:07 That is an Imperial Guardsman, they're the regular foot soldiers of the Imperium and are drafted from countless worlds. Their guns fire lasers that can decapitate someone, yet they are still considered to be flashlights compared to most weapons. Also, the ones in the Dawn of War 2 trailers were the Aeldar/Eldar/Space Elves, and the big Cthulu monster was a tyranid (I forgot what that specific type was called tho :/).
@shockwave62132 жыл бұрын
The enemies you saw in the 40k Inquisitor: Martyr trailers were Nurgle's daemons, Nurgle Cultists and Plague Marines. Nurgle is the Chaos god of Pestilence, Decay and Rot. The big one with the Rotary Cannon was a Hellbrute: "A twisted Mockery of a Space Marine", as he puts it in game. Just a Chaos Marine inside a Dreadnought who went completely bat shit insane from centuries of being stuck in the Dreadnought armor.
