There are also helpful cheat sheets with hotkeys like from CGBoost, which list a lot of common hotkeys. Helped me a lot in the beginning.

One thing he forgot to mention is that there is an option to make hotkeys what they are in Maya. Usually, this appears on the first start-up of Blender, but if you miss it: Go to Edit ->Preferences ->KeyMap Look for the Menu that Says "Blender" Click "Industry Standard"(which I think is somewhat questionable) Click the 3 bar menu at the bottom of preferences Hit "Save Preferences" And that's it! Hope that helps!
@Robofish228774 жыл бұрын
As a Maya user I found “industry standard” key map helpful in getting around in Blender; however almost all tutorials use the Default Blender Keymap and are difficult to follow. This double-right click tip is very helpful.

Another tip: If you press F3 you can search for actions. For example, you want to collapse the selected vertex but dont remember where is that option. Just press F3 and type "collapse". You will see all the actions on blender that have that word.

Can someone please tell me how to find out what the current hotkey for an action is? As an example I am using the “industry standard” setting but I can’t figure out what the hotkey for “Add” is. I know in the Blender default map it is “Shift + A”.

eh, right on! I know this tutorial has NOTHING to do with rigging, but ive rigged a few characters using your meathod (works great BTW, Thanks!) but i was recently introduced to a free (built in) addon called rigify... and it looks REALLY powerful from the models ive seen that use it... Is there a reason that you manually make your own rigs instead of using rigify? Just wondering. Thanks for another great tutorial!
@TheRoyalSkies4 жыл бұрын
Sure thing man, I got nothing against Rigify. So, please don't take what I'm about to say as me trying to put it down, But, basically. The rule goes like this. The best rig for your character, will always be a rig designed specifically for your character- I don't use Rigify for the same reason the Studio's like Arc, Nintendo, and Square Soft don't use it. Rigify is designed as a tool for people who don't want or know how to spend to much time rigging. It's great to quickly rig lots of characters generally. But, at it's heart, it's a tool designed for everyone, which means it's not a tool designed for any character specifically. To put it into perspective, I believe rigify has over 700-800 bones or something for different things that you may or may not need depending on your project. My rig on the other hand only has around 140, 60 of those are just for the hair and fingers, and it animates exactly the way I need it to and is designed specifically to be motion capture compatible (Which is super important for me). The other reason, is it's easier to fix or adjust your own rig when you know how it's built. The simpler it is, the easier it is to adjust. When you rely on Rigify, you have to rely on them explaining to you how it works. When Blender updates, you have to be careful about what they change and keep track of how that affects what you need. In the time you spend waiting for a response how how to do something with Rigify, you could usually have solved the problem yourself with your own rig - But, that's only because I'm very comfortable rigging. There's no shame in not wanting to get into the rigging process, and if you're happy with the results you get from Rigify, definitely use it to save time for you :)
@FinalMotion4 жыл бұрын
@@TheRoyalSkies wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to write that all and reply to me! That makes a lot of sense. A video I watched said a very similar thing. I think the rigify rig just looks so complex, I assumed “it must be better”. But a simpler rig that does the “same thing” does make more sense. Thank you again for taking the time to write that, I really appreciate it! 🙏

I like doing things manually with my mouse. I hate the "piano playing" quick key smashing Blender has. Which is also why I love the "BforArtists" fork of Blender better. It has far superior UI and menus too.
