When I was 15 my Grandmother paused the chaos that was our traditional Christmas gift exchange to have the whole family sit quietly and watch as she handed me a small gift and card. She is not the type of woman who normally takes charge or speaks loudly, but would rather sit in her rocker in the corner of the room and watch everything happen around her. So, when she made a big deal out of handing me my gift, everyone was incredibly curious. I remember being very confused as I opened the card with with everyone watching. Her Christmas cards were always short, simple, and to the point. “Merry Christmas. Love, Grandma.” But, when I opened this card it looked like she had written a novel. I was shocked at the card’s length, but started reading. The card detailed an exchange my Grandmother had with my Great Grandmother Laura, whom I was named after. A few months before she passed away 13 years earlier (I would have been 2 at the time of the original conversation), my great grandmother Laura laid in her nursing home bed and removed her wedding ring. She handed it to my Grandma saying “Hold on to my ring. When Laura is old enough please give it to her and let her know I loved her.” As I read my Grandmother’s account of the conversation I felt tears start streaming down my face. As soon as I was done reading I looked up at my Grandmother and she gave me a small smile and nodded at the gift on my lap. I slowly opened the gift in dumbfounded confusion and found a ring box. Inside was a solitary set gold engagement ring which I removed and carefully slipped it on my finger. Low and behold, it fit perfectly. I remember running straight to my Grandma with tears flowing to hug her for passing on such a precious gift as the rest of the family erupted in confused chaos and more tears as the card got passed around. To this day 14 years later it remains my favorite gift and one of my most prized possessions. It isn’t huge or worth a lot of money, but it doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that while my Great Grandmother Laura laid her bed with a body too frail to walk, she was thinking and praying for me, Laura. And not just me as a small toddler, but the woman who I may one day become.

My mother's wedding veil.... It originally was my great grandmother's veil, if you look up wax orange blossom wedding tiara, that's what it is, it's made entirely out of wax, wire, and horse hair thread. It's been passed down to each woman on her wedding day. My great grandma originally had it made in Spain. Then moved to Mexico. When my mother got it, she didn't receive it on her wedding day but when she was 9 because her mom, my grandmother passed away during childbirth, to my moms sister whom also passed. It has survived several fires, my mother sneaking into the united States at 13 years old by herself, and lived in a hat box under my moms bed through 5 foster homes until her wedding day to my dad. They've been married 31 years, and as soon as my husband and I are able to have our wedding I will wear it.

I wish I could get a hug. My husband recently lost his favorite job. He finally was working in a good environment (or so we thought) We thought that the family he worked for would truly care and train him. He really wanted to do the very best he could for them. He supported them so much and even promoted the business so much. He bragged to everyone finally proud to find where he belonged. But sadly the figure head of the business never interacted with their employees and left it to a young manager. That “manager” only trained women the same age and never trained my husband or even gave him a chance. He took it so hard. But I took it even harder. I had trusted and believed that this family cared and would never just give up on someone. It tore us up inside. We had finally talked about trying to have a baby again (since my last miscarriage) come to find out the stress of him losing this job and the bills being all on me caused me to miscarry again. Needless to say a hug would be amazing.

So, if you were to go separate ways, would you give it back do you think ? You don't need to answer, and I really do hope you take no offense by me asking. That being said, that sounds sooo inclusive from his whole family. I really do love that ! Unsure if that is just me, but I would almost feel scared getting something of the sort. Even more so if there are other siblings involved. But they all agreeing is kinda insanely nice ^^

My husband's mother died when he was a baby, and when we were talking about getting married we talked about using his mother's engagement ring if it was around. To my surprise when he proposed it was her ring, its a tinny 18k gold with a 1/8k marquee diamond, it was even my size. It has plier marks on it because she bent it and his dad had to straighten it out. Its not big or "special " but it means so much to me, and I feel so greatly that he thinks I'm worthy of her ring.

I just inherited my late grandmothers wedding ring, and her mothers wedding ring that she used to wear every day and now I wear every day. And have been wearing my other gradmothers necklace and her mothers ring for years. It's such a beautiful, comforting and empowering feeling to symbolicall carry several generations of loved ones with me in form of jewelry and would be so happy to pass them on one day. Also I would like to express my gratitude for bringing me so much calmness and positivity over the years with your videos.

An old family heirloom that our has is an old korean jade jewellery set. A gorgeous ring, brooch and hair pin. It is used at every wedding for the traditional portion of it. Every girl puts on the jewellery pieces and hanbok. My favourite of the Jade and dragon hair pin.

My mom inherited a cat when my grandmother died last year. And we've had a tradition in my family since I was newborn. Every year on the day when my name is "celebrated" (at least in Sweden) we get an angel or something similar, that day is very close to Christmas. I have like 26 different angels, frogs with Santa hats or snowmen etc

Oh I can finally answer question of the day - I've kind of inherited opal (!!) ring and earrings. My father had opal stones, because we have opal mine really close to our home and he used those stones to make jewelery for me - so I inherited stones.

My Gran had this cute long silver chain with a silver chain purse that's teeny tiny- just big enough to hold a pound coin (probably wouldn't even hold a quarter) and it clips shut. She had a clearout recently and nearly threw it out, I rescued it, I remember sitting on her lap when I was really tiny and playing with it! I'm grateful to still have her in my life :)

I’ve inherited the family home. It was my grandparents, then my parents, and now it belongs to my fiancé and I. But something that I truly treasure more than anything is the necklace my grandpa gave my grandma on their wedding day.

I Inherited an opal ring from my paternal grandmother--it's so beautiful. The real family heirlooms, though are a pair of crosses made of gold that that my maternal Great-grandfather brought back from the 1850 Gold Rush in California!

At my mothers passing I inherited quite a few unique items with cool stories behind them...one of which is a doll that is so old her body is stitched of pigskin and stuffed with sawdust, her face and hands and forearms as well as her feet to the knees are made of bisque. Her joints bend and her eyes used to open and close, her hair is real hair. This doll used to be my great great grandmothers doll it has been passed down to the oldest daughters oldest daughter, my daughter isn't interested so instead of skipping me I just kept it. Her papers say that in 1956 my grandmothers mom took it in to have it repaired and that my great grandmother donated her own hair to have the dolls wig redone...this doll is over 100years old...still beautiful and dressed in cloths my grandmother made for it, a calico dress, sheer sleaves and scoopnecked collar..her shoes used to be button up pattent leather but were replaced with felt after the others disinigrated...she sits on my mothers old vanity in my bedroom on an old fashioned miniature school desk that looks like it was made especially for her that actually I found at a yard sale just a few years ago....funny, the doll never had a name, no one ever played with her, but she has always been well loved and cherrished...when my mother passed away in 2001 my grandmothers first question was ''where's the doll?"...20 years later and she's outlasted four little girls lifetimes.

My great grandmother collected bells, and she had one beautiful crystal bell that was always on her dressing table. That was her most precious and special bell and didn't even stay in the same place as the rest of her bells. When she passed away 5 years ago my Nan (her daughter) said that I could have and look after that bell. Everyone else in the family got to choose a bell to keep to remember her, but I have the special bell and it's on display in my room and I always remember her when I see it.

My grandma had several pieces of heirloom jewelry she wanted to pass down to my sister and I. Sadly, the home-care nurse who was hired to help her care for my grandpa stole it all and skipped town. 20 years later it still breaks my heart. Love this soap, can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for December!

I inherited my grandfather's war medals. He fought in the Korean war and got a Bronze Star (he got shot in the head saving one of his fellow soldiers while crossing a river.) He passed away this year. Those medals are in a safe box. I also got his high school yearbook, several newspaper clippings of his time in the war, his class ring, and also a book that he made full of clippings from the second World War. He was a history buff and I love history as well.

For the question of the day: Yes, I inherited a diamond ring that’s passed down from mother to daughter in my family for a few generations now. Mum got the ring from my grandmother when mum turned 50, and she in turn gave me the ring when I turned 25. I wear the ring on special occasions, I think next time I may wear it will be now on the 19th of October as I’m turning 35 then. My grandmother is no longer with us, but at least she got to pass the ring to my mum (mum was adopted as an infant and found her biological mother again at age 44) and she also got to see the ring being passed to her only grandchild. My 35th will be a peaceful day, the plan is to just spend the day with my parents and we will probably go out to have dinner in a local restaurant (partly for some Monday luxury and partly to support a local small business in times like these) and then just have some cake at home, not likely to have any people over this year due to the current situation, but I honestly don’t mind as I’m not a party person anyways and am very introverted and hate if people sing for me on my birthday... A very peaceful day just with my parents fits me perfectly!

Answer for the question of the day: I received one of my paternal grandfather’s wallets. He was born in 1909 and passed away in 1995. The most magical thing about the wallet was that his original social security card was in in. I was only 12 years old at the time but knew it was special enough to keep safe.

I love Irish/Scots music too! Gaelic Storm, Old Blind Dogs, etc etc. I have a ring from my great grandmother that my father gave to me on my wedding. It was something old, borrowed, and blue. This amazing art deco sapphire ring. He gave it to me a bit early because he was terminally sick and passed half a a year later. He didn't want to be depressing and have me inherit it on his death. Anyway...it's lovely and I cherish it and wear it only for special occasions.

For the question of the day: my mom gave me her aunt (or great aunt)'s ring that her mom gave her. It wasn't a wedding ring, but it's a real diamond and so I wear it (on my middle finger, coz it's a perfect fit) on fancy occasions.

If I receive anything it might be some of my father's watches from his consistently growing collection. I prefer antique looking ones so I'm not really sure. As for passing down, it will most likely be the two rings I own. One is the promise ring my boyfriend gave me over ten years ago and the other my father gave me.

I have a wooden bookcase and a small wooden side table that were from my great grandparents house, there’s a picture of my grandma sitting on the table when she was a little girl and she’s now in her mid 80s... there’s also a thick metal P with a circle around it that I might get from my father as well as a wooden round top from my great grandparents as well... the furniture is at least 80 years old if not older and I think that’s so cool to have a piece of furniture that lasted 4 generations
