I purchased the app this year and deliberated over it for months. Decided to bite the bullet and get it. Purely from an expense point of view, it has motivated me to use the app as much as possible. I suppose we all have different methods of planning and recording and this app does suit me. It’s amazing how accurate it foresees weights and reps. Increase or decrease loads depending on how I respond to workloads. It’s expensive but I am happy. It’s my own PT and those cost money as well.

RP Hypertrophy was the most effective program I've tried. It's very well structured and takes the guessing out of training. I gained over 15lbs of muscle while using it over the course of a year. I did get burned out on it and my joints started to suffer from the amount of volume you have to do. It's good to change it up!

I have the app, I have been using it since around April. I love this app. I love the tracking, I love the video resources giving advice on how to do various exercises, I love how I can customise my workouts and I've read all the books. For me, the annual membership is worth it 100%. I also tried the Diet App and didn't like it all. I tried it twice, just to make sure, and quit both times. So I am not just mindlessly pro RP, this app made a HUGE difference to my fitness progress.
@flemit35Ай бұрын
I found Macrofactor for diet to be excellent, I'd say once you've used them for a number of weeks. you learn how many carlories you're eating and how to adjust so can end the subscription and perhaps pick it up if you're then hitting problems with your weight goals or change your goals. for example I used it for the first 2 months of a 3month weight loss phase then used it for a month when I switched to maintaining my weight it was useful for this adjustment and have carried on without it since. depending on how my recomp goal is going I'll subscribe again either to aid in further weightloss or gain.

That’s a lot of money, but $300 to learn how to train yourself over a year is actually not a bad deal. The alternative is to spend hours reading articles, watching KZbin, and trial and error for a year or two. This is about 4x less than you’ll spend on weekly sessions with a random personal trainer and will probably be more valuable.
@TheJwalk1234Ай бұрын

As a 59 year old powerlifter, who has trained for 40 years in think programs like this can be very valuable. With the caveat that each of us are unique. One thing that drives me crazy is that the fitness industry has purposefully complicated things. 1. Eat clean and with enough protein and calories. 2. Progressive overload when necessary. You can’t go all out, all the time. 3. Recovery is not watching TV and eating donuts. It’s about rest - active moment and feeling recovered. 4. Program correctly. Way too many people don’t have a plan. Structure is key. It’s keeps us motivated and also safe if it’s sound. 5. Lastly, take your time.

If you are doing these things, you WILL get results of you are patient. I see people that under east but think they are eating a lot. If you can’t take the time to figure out how much total food you need, you’ll continue to look the same year after year. I started as a brand new person in the gym with a different program and I just found it weird. The workouts didn’t make any sense. I then started researching and stumbled upon the RP channel. I signed up for the app and it’s been a game changer for me. I love how detailed it is and how it has all the exercises listed under body part with videos showing the proper technique. It took alittle while for me to figure out what exercises I was comfortable with but now I have a rather solid 3 day a week plan that I refined down from the 5 day a week meso I started with. Been using it since June 1st and it’s a small price to pay for the amount of effort I’m putting in.

I paid $100 for the strong app. It was a one time fee, and it stores as many templates as i want. I can look at a workout i did 4 years ago, what exercise i did, with what weight and how many reps. The RP app looks like it could be good for someone who doesn't know what they want in a program, but enough use over time, a person could learn what they like and want to use.

There's definitely a target market for this app. Serious athletes and competitors who have on-demand access to fully stocked commercial or private gyms. The pricing model and value proposition just doesn't make as much sense otherwise. That isn't to say that those who don't compete or those with the financial means not to worry about it won't also get value. I just suspect the sports science doctor made the app for sports science beneficiaries.
@Maurus200Ай бұрын

I hear high volumes from the app mentioned in the review. My experience with this app after a year is the opposite. Generally, most lifts are two working sets from the app. Often times I'll get 8 -12 working sets per muscle group weekly. Regardless of four to six days a week splits. That felt like low volume to me. Anyone else experiencing that? The gains have been good and I like the app. The only thing that threw me off is it felt low volume overall.
@N8_DoggАй бұрын

I bought a 6 month subscription for this back when it came out. Honestly, it was pretty neat. But I knew enough about the logic of how it worked to just do my own version on a free tracker that suited my needs after about 2 months of using it and comparing with one of their older templates. I don't regret it, but I don't think the value is there for the rather high price unless you're ultra serious about becoming a bodybuilder (in which case you should probably just find a good trainer). If it was 15 a month I'd get it as a no brainer. Mind you this was in the context of it being newly released, maybe more features that will pump the value are coming.

This is for sure true. I think like many content creator's programs (or in this case app) it just streamlines their content in one place. For the app, the main draw for the more experienced lifter is really just organizing/tracking your programming.

He's even said that in his videos, it's intentional. All the data and workouts in the app are even online for free. He wants all the info available for everyone. The app is for convenience and if you want to support the channel. Just like the optional members section with longer videos and more jokes and access to the community where you can get feedback from videos you submit of your own workouts. Just optional resources you can pay for, while he wants everyone to have access free to the important things.

Now, that's not to say it blows up the volume research. It just views volume a bit differently and puts failure/higher intensity in a more neutral (at least) light than the current hate it gets from the RIR camp many of whom have become closed minded fanatics reminiscent of the early hard core crossfitters.

Like i am really bad at doing 3RIR or RPE 7 i either stop to earlly or accidentaly go to RPE 9 / 1 RIR, I really think it sucks there is no graphs that display my training volume over time. Also juggernut is better UI in my opinion because it asks how my muscles feel before workout starts instead of at the beginning of the set. I am on the fence about keeping RP app, I just wish it had a built in workout timer, more visual metrics, I find I really enjoy those things. But Juggernut is all about powerlifting not hypoertrophy. So it throws a lot of super low rep sets at me and I would rather do the higher rep range to avoid injury. What are your thoughts on Juggernut AI/Evolve Ai?

i tried a few apps (the pump last) and i just don't think they work for me. an app is basically a spreadsheet under the hood , just makes it more user friendly and interesting. The pump has implemented a few of my requested features: notes section, custom schedule and just a few bug fixes. what i don't like about the app is i don't know which muscle groups it's going to hit for the week without reviewing the plans, it requires you go through multiple long phases of entry level crap and i feel like my focused muscle groups aren't consistently targeted - it'll randomly incorporate a full body day, superset day (i'm not big on superset for nearly an entire day), short rest days and mixes body weight exercises as supersets with weighted (i'm not fond of doing a benchpress and pull up consecutively) and lastly i'm not sure about the warmup- the warmup is always the same: 3 sets: pushups, lunges, squats and inverted rows. most research i've seen says warmups doing the actually exercise is more productive ie/ 2 light sets of bench press before work load sets.

Due to the recent resurgence of Mike Menter many have kind of jumped on the bandwagon unfortunately, they don't understand HIT nor how to properly apply it.

I hear you brother, as I mentioned in the video I don't he's really saying anything that hasn't already been addressed in mainstream hypertrophy based science / literature. I also mentioned for sure this goes counter to a lot of the HIT viewers on the channel. I will say from experimenting with HIT for the better part of the year where I was averaging 2x a week workouts and then slowing transitioning back to higher volume, there has been some interesting stuff I'll probably share in a future video. Appreciate you watching

@@hybridresistance Very interestingly Terrence Ruffin ifbb pro has recently following an injury been doing an abbreviated routine, two chest exercises, two for back one for biceps and triceps and he has said he's bigger than ever!

I dunno, I generally find him fairly balanced on things. Yes he would say that for bodybuilding volume is usually the way to go. But at the same time, he'd agree that people get into trouble with too much volume, which either isn't needed for them or even hurts them without enough recovery. So after a de-load he recommends starting with fairly low volume (like 2 sets of an exercise) and increase it as needed over the course of weeks. And similar for starting with more RIR and progressing to less. But if you're just working out twice a week, I think he'd agree you can just go to failure all the time.

@@ShawnFumo I think Lyle McDonald summed up Mike very well calling him a politician! LOL!

Probably overly scientific and overly optimized mumbo jumbo, but probably good for a lazy intermediate to amateur

I think anyone could use the program, but I actually think (and as others have said) that I actually this is made for or will be more appreciated by advanced lifters. As it's really made for creating your own template versus using the stock ones. I can see a beginner to intermediate being lost in the weeds and wanting a more concrete plan laid out for them.

@@hybridresistance that’s a tough market, by the time someone becomes advanced they probably aren’t willing to fiddle with an app to tell them what to do
@Markus-fw4pxАй бұрын
There is so much information in the internet, that nobody who can read and think has to buy an app like this. Even Ismael can't reinvent the wheel. The main principles of training are easy.

@@_ballerWhen you gate intermediate to advanced is when you plateau often, so no, this is a great target audience for this app imo. It’s useful precisely when your existing programming might be leaving gains on the table.

I tried it but I didn't like it. I didn't like that if you didn't click you were sore from your workout it would add a ton of volume on you.

Thanks for sharing that. My biggest thing doing the workouts with their (RIR setting) was wanting to do more sets and or exercises than what I was used to doing. Granted I was coming off of doing total body workouts 2 x week so doing body parts can feel like a luxury.

That makes sense, if you’re bulking anyway, if you’re not sore, you probably didn’t trigger much growth
