Kyle, I have been watching your RR builders Headquarters 2 series and I am just finishing the video about the faux stone cap stone and you are trying to add the flashing under the windows and are discussing again about the windows draining and not taping the bottom window flange. I am retired now but did both commercial and residential remodeling for 40 years. I am about 75 miles from you up in Waukegan. Anyway the issue with taping the bottom flange on the windows is not an issue for a lot of the window brands depending on the design of the vents on the bottom of the window sash. You have to either turn the window upside down to identify where the vents are or get down on your knees and look for the vents under the sash before you can decide if you can tape the widow on the bottom flange. Some widows vent under the sash frame and some vent into the flange. Most windows other than cheap new construction windows vent from below the sash frame. The cheap ones vent through the flange. Get down on your knees and look under the window and I bet your windows drain from the sash frame on the bottom of the window and if they do you can tape the bottom flange all day and you won't block the drain or vent. Just my 2 cents after 40 years of experience. Loving the series. I will keep watching. Laurence J Wolf Sr Waukegan, Illinois

Razor blade= universal best splinter removal tool. My wife thinks I’m nuts, im showing her your surgical skills with the blade.
@WatrenThompson18 күн бұрын
A blunt Stanley knife blade, that you should have changed Monday week ago, works just as well, esp if you have to bit a bit of surgery on the finger, dowse it in a bit thinners or run it under water to kill the germy germs….or don’t. Whatever works, it’s all good, so long as that bloody massive chunk of timber is out of your finger.

if you plan on closing the underside of the stairs off, for a smooth finish in the tech room, fill the threads with rockwool comfortboard first, it takes a lot of the drum effect out of stairs, and it can just be offcuts it does not need to be perfect since its just for sound dampening.

Loved every minute of this video. As a cabinet maker I`ll say don`t put the manifold for your radiant heating in the closet. If its gonna be used as a recording room the person in there will be overheating every time. Go with your second idea BUT instead of a bookshelf make a cabinet with these fancy TV LIFT mechanisms. Just my opinion! Love your work!

Hey Kyle, Love the videos. Just an FYI you can put the radiant manifold in the knee wall facing the steps then build a set of doors to enclose them. It won't take up space in the area where you want to put the tv. That wall is mostly a barrier and putting the manifold facing the steps you can set it a a useable working height. Just a thought.

It's 45" from the floor to the top edge, is actually what OSHA requires for a rail on a leading edge, Kyle! Other than that, it probably doesn't matter except what looks good! I was thinking 48 but I googled OSHA requirement for a rail on a leading edge! If you don't have inspections, then I guess you can get away with anything you want, but I'm sure that someone determined how high the top of the rail would have to be to mitigate a fall if someone were to fall against it and where their waist would hit and if it would keep the average person at 6' or whatever from being leveraged over the top of it! Because if your walking along it and you lose your balance for whatever reason, the rail wouldn't be so low that it would make you top heavy and go over the top of it! 3" in height could make the difference of you not hitting the top of the rail low enough to send you on over. I short person would probably be good at 42" height but someone 6' or 6' 2" with a high waist, it might hit that spot below the waist that would lever him or her right on over. that's my thinking on it anyway.

Note, I am not a safety nut but watching these KZbin videos and I watch a lot of you other contractors homeowners building things no one ever seems to put up is handrail I work big construction, my whole life when you went to the next floor that’s the first thing that got put up around the stairwells and elevator shaft before anyone was allowed to work for the 15 minutes. It takes to throw up a couple 2x4I just don’t get it. Someone winds up paralyzed or dead for 15 minutes. I love your channel and like seeing what you guys are getting into that’s just a pet peeve of mine sorry.

I watched your 'Large Workshop Buildout 4: How to Build a Staircase like a PRO' video earlier this morning (right before this one) and you used four stringers on that build.
