@AaaA-lx8bo I didnt see difference between HDR+ and Dolby vision. Samsung has HDR+ and this is extremely enough for me, if you think Dolby vision is important for you choose LG. Both Televisions are very good end of the day.

@@marik8770 I had 3 samsung TV's over the last 10 years. 2 have had serious issues and samsung even failed to regonise the puple lines issue on my KS9000 and ignored my requests/warranty. I stil has the issue to this day and as funny as it sounds I have to warm up the TV before use to clear the purple lines. Ive also had a soundbar die on me and again no support. As much as i think it maybe slightly better than the C4 i have lost all faith in Samsung and will never buy a product from them again. C4/G4 it is.

I currently have the 55 S90D I got discounted for review. Do yourself a favor & just get the S89C/S90C if buying now, at least until these drop considerably in price. They should mostly be Gen 2 panels just like the S90D as well. Only if the 77 S90D (or maybe if S89D) turns out to be a Gen 3 panel would I recommend right now.

It's so close to an S90C. Bought the latter production of the S90C and the panels seems to be the same with the S90D. Super thin panels. The difference is minimal, so I'll stick with the S90C for a long time :) Thanks RTINGS!

I got the 55S90D for $1,136.37 including tax! Super slick deal and cheaper than the 55S90C close out sales I saw! Extremely happy with the purchase and price (using it for my gaming/work Area). It's my first QD-OLED TV and I'm loving it so far. I still have my 77C9 and 77A80J which I love as well! Edit: How to check if you have a QD OLED Panel (2024 model; i think it may work for 2023 as well) - When displaying content/an image, you can use your smartphone camera feature. Get really close to the tv and zoom to the maximum your camera will zoom. If you see what looks like a cross pattern, it's a QD OLED. If its not a cross pattern, its a WOLED.

Great review. Currently having some issues with my LG 65 CX. If the repair quote is unreasonable, then I would love to give the S90D a go. I primarily game at 4K on PC, so a lot of the cons listed don't really apply to me. QD + 144hz sounds amazing.

Not having Dolby Atmos is fine and most people wouldn't notice and it really doesn't really make much difference but not having DTS would be such a pain for most people. I don't mind it on my S90C because I have a receiver with EARC out. I am sure that most people don't have that. LG OLEDs used to have the same problem for a few years till last year when they started supporting DTS again. Of course, most people don't notice because the Blu-ray switches to Dolby digital which is normally lower in quality compared to DTS-HD which is lossless on blurays. Blu-rays for newer movies are coming out with Dolby Atmos but most people who buy Blu-rays watch a lot of older movies.

Thank you so much for your informative videos. After our old MiniLED TV developed a fault we returned for a refund to Costco and finally moved into the world of OLED. Thanks to your reviews, we opted for the Samsung S93D (S90D variant with better speakers). We are loving it so far. Even though I missed out on a cashback deal from Samsung, it is an awesome TV for the price. The fact that it competes with the "flagship" G4 model is what sealed it for me. I am honestly not missing Dolby Vision at all, which is something that I was most anxious about, having had a LG MiniLED before this.

Im farily certain that Dolby Vision is as much of a prioritary gimmik as anything Ive seen in the past 20 years. 5 years from now people will laugh that anyone ever obsessed over it. Its like not having THX certification. It does NOT matter if the amp, preamp and speakers are quality.

I honestly don't think it's a gimmick. HDR is awesome, and dynamic HDR(Dolby Vision being the most common) is even better, as you don't want the same setting for all scenes, bright and dark in the movie. It's just that most people put too much emphasis on it over a quality panel, as you need a TV that can handle the contrast difference - as in, get bright enough for bright parts and dark for dark parts of the scene. No point in a TV that can't get bright enough without uncontrolled blooming. OLEDs are the best, followed by decent Mini-LED TVs, for obvious reasons. In some respects, Mini-LED is better (eg: super bright or super dark scenes, and no Auto brightness limiter), but most of the time, OLED is better. QD-OLED is better than WOLED due to better colour brightness. S90D is just brighter than the C4, especially in gaming mode, so it is a no-brainer unless you really really want DV. The issue, IIRC, is that Samsung doesn't want to pay DV a license fee despite still shipping with Dolby Atmos and decided to develop their own dynamic HDR (HDR 10+). I think Stop the Fomo did a video on this topic some time ago. The problem is that a lot of streaming media out there uses DV, although I believe Apple TV + and store-bought movies do have an HDR10+ backup. Also saw online that Disney+ will be releasing HDR 10+ content in the near future, which will be good. I don't know if they can update their existing DV content to have an HDR10+ dynamic backup, but it would be good. The point is that with a decent panel, even a standard HDR 10 will look better than DV on a crap/inferior TV, and with an HDR10+ backup option to DV on some platforms, there is no issue at all.

I was mainly looking for 55-inch hisense u8n, and my max budget was only $300, and I was not able to get any used u8n in my area and all of sudden, some one just posted on the marketplace s90d 48inch for $400 and i eded up got it for $300 last night and then watched your content. The model number in Western Canada is QN65S90DAFXZC. Is this a QD-OLED panel? The last 4 letters are the same on the 55 inch, 65" and 77". however the 83" is different.

It’s verfied. In Germany only the 65inch has a QD Panel, all others have a WOLED panel. So annoying I wanted a 55inch.. now I’m confused if I should get the Samsung S90C instead to get the right inch with my QD OLED. So if anyone knows. S90C 55inch (1099€) or S90D 65inch (1299€)?

I’m deciding between this and the QN90D. It’s in a room with a full wall of open windows perpendicular to where the TV will be mounted. Will this S90D be bright enough during the day. There will be some use during the day on weekends (2-3 hrs), but the TV will primarily be used at night.

Thanks for another great RTINGS review! I have owned 2 flagship Samsung TVs and they both had problems, so it doesn't surprise me that you found a defect in the unit you tested. I have come to suspect that while many Samsung TVs have excellent picture quality, they may not be built with the best components. I have a relative who purchased 2 LG OLED TVs around the same time, and both have continued to work perfectly without a single glitch. I'd certainly like to take advantage of the benefits offered by QD-OLED, but I have concerns about the build integrity of Samsung TVs (and the Sony QD-OLED models are so EXPEN$IVE...)

4:02 this whole eARC limitation only matters if your media source (bluray player/ Apple TV) is plugged into the TV's HDMI for picture and the eARC HDMI is used to pass on sound to your AV receiver to handle sound right? If you plug your source into your receiver to handle audio and use your receiver's HDMI out into the TV, it's a non-issue right? and if you're using a built-in app on your TV as a media source then god bless you i guess

@eliasrivera6760 Very good TV as far as picture, only issue is the power panel failed in the TV a week after I bought it. A Samsung tech came and replaced it free of charge, but was a pain to take off the wall mount again as it is heavy.

Are you sure it does LPCM 7.1? I notice that Rtngs often report this wrongly for Samsung TV. Say you connect a PS5 and set the PS5 to PCM, do you get 7.1 passthrough or rather only 5.1 or worse stereo? I bet it shows stereo like for all Samsung TVs. Otherwise pls let us know how you test the audio passthrough.

Dude do NOT mount this tv anything less than a perfect 90 degrees. Just go into any store and check out the ones that have been on display for a while. They all lean forward. It is a HORRIBLE design from an engineering perspective...The thick backing part needs to go at least 60% up the back of the screen to properly support a screen so thin. Anyhow, I have a new 65 inch im about to install this week. But I would NEVER tilt it at all

I noticed you don’t mention 5:5 pulldown, last years models (like my 90C) had a major issue with it. Between panning shots it would micro freeze the image. This caused major problem for me!😢 The issue is negated only by enabling de judder to 2-4 clicks or disabling picture clarity completely or running AppleTV or Google TV in a Game Mode! I settled to run more de judder for sports 4 clicks and for shows 2 clicks as I don’t notice soap opera effect, but for other people who are more sensitive to this effect this would be a major issue. Hopefully with next review this would be also mentioned from here on forward ❤ It would be lovely if ratings actually could communicate this issue to Samsung about last year models, so they could actually address it 🙏

We usually buy the size we expect to be useful to a larger number of users. That usually ends up being the 65”. And since we buy all the products we test ourselves, we don’t usually test mutliple sizes. Sorry about that!

Thanks so much for your reviews, including this one on the S90D. However I have to take issue with the practical usage for this model (and other Samsungs for that matter). While it’s true it displays colors that are vivid, they go beyond reality, and in many cases make scenes in SDR difficult to watch. When that overly rich color is paired with less than average up-scaling of SDR content, this TV doesn’t come close to its Sony and LG competitors. And since SDR is here to stay for most content over the next several years, I think most people are far better served by avoiding this Samsung entry. It simply cannot compete outside of HDR content. I returned mine after 5 days of frustration

I returned mine without even opening it because of its rediculous form factor. My last tv lasted from 2013 until now. I cant see this flimsy piece of unfinished kit lasting more than 3. I also was NOT impressed with some motion handling that I witnessed with their in store demo of the mountain bikers. This tv could NOT display the spokes in any kind of a coherent manner. It was just a blurry mess each time they spun by. I spent another grand and got a G4

Is this a good TV to stream movies? I know Sony is has a better processor and upscaling, but the Only Sony with QD OLED is the A95L and it’s out of my budget. Would the S95D be good enough for streaming MAX, Prime Video and Netflix? Thanks!

@@Mujahed. not yet, but I think I’m going to be buying the Sony X90L LED. I saw them side to side the other day at my local Costco and the picture difference is not that noticeable. Im just going to get the cheaper Sony at 85” and save some money

@@lpromer4796 Wise choice. Honestly most modern TVs look pretty good in general, and you might not realize some "issues" that online reviews talk about unless you're really looking for them.

Hello everyone! I wanted your opinion regarding my current situation of S90D So basically, I got a really sweet deal on the S90D 77" which was here on HUGE sale in Middle east Saudi Arabia for around 2300$ which is super nice for that price! I used to have a Sony x9000h 75" but decided to upgrade, anyways the issue is I just found out after making the purchase and awaiting the delivery that there is some sort of panel lotteries specifically in the S90D lineup that you could get a WOLED panel in that TV. After extensive research I have found out that my TV is going to be WOLED and not QD-OLED in Saudi Arabia which was a bummer to me honestly. Nevertheless, people were saying i'm going to have blast either way since i'm coming from a regular LED TV and I agree. But I wanted to take your opinion guys regarding this, since after seeing the comparisons between WOLED and QD-OLED that the colors are SO much more vibrant and nicer in the QD-OLED. so should I return the TV and get the S90C for the same exact price or should I just continue with this purchase and it's going to be nice still? Keep in mind that the only S90C that is left that I can take is the one displayed in their store, and it's in the same exact price of the S90D that I'm getting and it's brand new, and in that case I would be guranteed a QD-OLED display since I think that there were no WOLED panel in the S90C lineup. Appreciate you guys for reading this and taking the time, anyone's opinion is welcome and looking forward to hear from you guys! Love from Saudi 💙

@@EhNothing true... now, I just this TV in 75 inch and I have to say, it is awesome and it does have a feature that helps and hopefully will avoid the burn it. Is Pixel Shift, it will make the image borders look off at time but is precisely that, moving the image so it wont stay in the same place

Hey, love from India. Actually I m confused between LG c3, c4 and Samsung 90D.please suggest which one to buy or you let me know if you have any other model with similar price. I am not fan of super video quality but I am fan of excellent audio as I m using bose latest soundbar. The 48 inch S90D is WOLED, in any country. Only the 55, 65, and 77 are available with QD-OLED. In the U.S. 55, 65, 77 are all QD-OLED. Outside of North America some of those might also be WOLED.

You can get a magnifying glass or zoom in with the phone and look at pixels. If you see 3 RGB square like pixels - it is QD-OLED If you see 4 tight packed columns pixels one of which is white - it's WOLED

In North America, the 42-inch, 48-inch, and 83-inch models use a WOLED panel (EXZA), and the 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch models use a QD-OLED panel (FXZA).

As Tom Cruise suggested that we should disable Motion smoothening while watching movies to avoid soap opera effect but if I do that how bad will the stutter be? as you said motion smoothen can clear out much of the stutter but how bad it is for movie maniacs. Is OLED not for movie enthusiasts ?
