Apparantly the advertising segments had bigger budgets than the cartoons. True with Kellogg's also.

My favorite cartoon adventure show was Ruff & Ready. These commercials bring back some great memories. Ironically, the "new" cereal Post Alphabits was discontinued in 2021.

I wish they would bring back Alpha-bits. Ruff & Reddy were actually re-broadcast on Boomerang back around the year 2000 and also on FAM-TV in the 1990's. Original show was 1957-1960.

You know they still make "Quisp Cereal" in limited quantity. I wish they would do the same for Alpha-Bits & Rice Krinkles. With retro cereal boxes. You know like a Snagglepuss Cocoa Krispies limited edition. I loved Alpha Bits. link kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4jboHdnp8ysatE

@@stevenhanson1454 Well, Charlie Brown never got to kick the football either. There was an old article in a newspaper mentioning that it (along with the lack of any appearance by the Great Pumpkin) would be that way to stay. (Charles Schulz was still alive when the article was written.) But didn’t the Trix rabbit get to have ONE spoonful one time? I believe that General Mills had a campaign by vote, “Should the Trix Rabbit get some Trix, or not?”

I see Danny Thomas singing the Post song. Post did co-sponsor a couple of seasons of The Danny Thomas Show, but I'm not sure if that started in '57. Post also co-sponsored Fury, The Bugs Bunny Show, and The Andy Griffith Show.

I am no expert, but guesses at animators here: Planet X ad: Michael Lah Raisin Bran/High Wire: Carlo Vinci Proto-Sugar Bear & Crocodile: Ken Muse Like was said, the budgets for these ads made for better animation than the regular episodes.

Great to see a new post again! Interesting that the martian, Mr. X, in the first spot looks similar--very, VERY similar--to the mascots of Nabisco Spoon-Size Shredded-Wheat Juniors cereal, the Spoonmen (particularly the helmet and potato nose). Was Joe B. already "borrowing" this early in the game? Post's copyright infringement, like their cereal, is just a little bit better!

I have a question, and I’m sure Mr. Grauman can chime in…. Did Post stop sponsoring R&R by fall 1958, when Hanna-Barbera started The Huckleberry Hound Show, sponsored by Kellogg’s? I could see a conflict of interest. If it’s true and Post stopped by fall ‘58, it makes the animation of R&R here even better and richer BY FAR compared to the actual episodes that ran during their season 1.
@stevenhanson1454 Жыл бұрын
I don't know the history, but sponsorship was a huge deal for animation and budgets in the early television years. Jonny Quest ran through several sponsors in their 1 and only 26 episode season. The animation was too expensive. If you look Kellogg's probably spent more on their Hanna-Barbera commercials than the cartoons.
