I managed to beat the GB version back in the day within the 40:00 time limit ONCE. I think the hardest part about the controls is the way momentum works. It’s hard to stop the Prince from running when he starts going fast. There are speed specific jumps as well, slow covers one tile, fast covers 2 and a running jump covers 3. I’ve played the game a bunch of times after beating it but was never able to replicate what I did the first time when I was a 10 year old kid with too much free time on his hand.

This is a perfect example of bad level design. The only way to proceed is to already know where you need to go and what you need to do before you even get there. You also need to know what isn't working, what is glitched, what solid walls and gates you can walk through, etc.
@damcobennett5 жыл бұрын
Unless you're a 9 to 5 game tester, you probably would never figure out you can glitch through a gate if you get up after a jump in just the right way. Kindof dumb.

Aka trial and error and pattern memorizing. Yeah, old games are infamous for that.
@edwinvanderhaeghen22214 жыл бұрын
@@readyplayerone5220 No this is different. In the official prince of persia games there are a few ground rules to work on. >tiles fall, certain blocks are pressure plates, traps insta kill you..etc. The player works with those ground rules to progress in the game. They learn how and when to apply it. This is different, this mod uses bugged game mechanics in certain spots and not in others. You as the player have no idea when or how to apply the bugs unless you yourself designed the game. A map is not well designed if you have to break half the game for it to complets one half of the map.
@Kaefer19734 жыл бұрын
@@readyplayerone5220 Prince of Persia 2 was a game where you needed to memorize some parts of some levels to make it through in time. The first Game this is based on was not so much. If you were unlucky and went in the wrong direction too often, or if you had to restart to often due to deaths, you'd run out of time. But for someone mastering the mechinics quickly and having some luck, it was at least in theory possible to beat it at the first attempt.

This is insane. About 10 years ago, I had a reputation of a mod-maker whose mods were insanely hard. But this is another level..., almost like a compilation of the original game's loopholes. The initial ones were cool and early well known, such as a posibility of providing a long jump from a 2-tile wide platform, falling askew in order to get to a 2-floor below, but one tile shorter platform, or dropping a 2-tile wide loose platform by quick descending and immediate ascending. Or the discovery of semi-loose tiles, which may add some more complexity to the game. Or adding some features which require some brains, such as a need of leaving a guard standing on an opener alive to open a gate it's closer was forced to press before. But the newer tricks, like skipping one tile while preparing for a long jump, which depend on every pixel when starting the trick, I never considered to be much fun. Unless it was single such trick at the very beginning of a level. Plus, I never liked the features that ruin the visual level design, such as instantly killing closed choppers, broken spikes or the invisible "black wall".

What do you mean "even today it seems a difficult game to pass". Today's games are so easy, every game nowadays holds your hand and gives you instructions by showing you what buttons to press. Games back then were difficult, all of them, ever played Super Ghouls and Ghosts?! The youth of today couldn't handle the games of this era, they would all need a safe space or start to cry cause its too difficult.
@dickrichard6262 жыл бұрын
@@OblivionGate Those kinds of old really hard games are just not that "fun" or entertaining to play for very long. Half the difficulty comes from all the jank code in them. There is a guy who cracks old games and finds where the code can be changed to make them better. Also most people don't like tutorials or constant button prompts. People just deal with it, but really, no one likes obscure hidden things in games that don't get explained either. It's one the most infuriating things about certain old games. Also I'm trying to understand the generation gap here. 1991 was only 30 years ago. Not that long in the grand scheme of things. I was born in the 90's, but I am very familiar with all games from even before I was born. Many of the classics never went away and people still play them young and old. They are all, all over KZbin. Every game in existence periodically gets beaten like a dead horse and obssesed about on here by people every year. Lastly IDK, how you never heard of Darksouls. Darksouls is a really difficult modern game, but the difficultly centers around skill and decisions rather then just the game being cheap and poorly programmed.
