This movie is absolutely beautiful. I love the creative ways it explains the afterlife, the "beforelife", and being in the zone. And more than that, I love the message of it all. Life isn't about what you were "born to do" or finding your purpose, because nobody really has one. Life is about living it to the fullest, really enjoying it, doing what makes you happy. And it's a beautiful message indeed.

Neat little thing you could miss: When Joe shows 22 his memories, there's one where he's sitting in a diner with a piece of pie, looking dejected, making you think it's a sad memory. But when Joe's at the piano and we see that montage of memories, we see the diner scene again, and we find out it was actually a happy memory, despite not starting out so great. It's like the hockey memory in Inside Out. It started off sad, but because of her friends and the team, it turned happy.

Thank you so much on reacting this movie Rukiya, it’s Without a doubt Pixar’s most beautiful and impactful films and I love the message that the film and director Pete Docter conveys on the importance on valuing and enjoying life around you which is what Joe and soul 22, especially the former experienced and learn throughout the film. My favorite moments were the scene when 22 in Joe’s body asked the Barber on why he ended up taking this job as a Barber over a veterinarian which was the film's turning point for Joe to realize on appreciating life around you and being happy with what you love doing. Another was when Joe was looking at the various items that 22 in Joe’s body collected from such as the seed, the lollipop and the various scenes of Joe’s life with the music playing had me in tears.

I can wholeheartedly relate to the looming anxieties of death. I think I also avoided this movie for a while because of it. I also avoided other things that related to death like listening to true crime and creepy horror stories and shows and movies talking about death. It's something that haunted the later half of my childhood which looking back is really sad that a kid would have those kinds of dark thoughts. I still have the occasional panic attack over it but it's gotten better. Anyways, I say all that to say that you're not alone and neither is anyone else who has these types of anxieties and panic attacks. ❤🙏

I relate to that too. It’s not that intense for me, but the fear of death and the unknown that comes with it is definitely part of my biggest fear or basically the rout of all fears I have. The problem for me is that the other part is the fear of life (and the suffering that comes with it) which sounds crazy but it is the flip side of my fear of death. In that sense I really relate to 22. All of my other fears can pretty much be traced back to those two. Like for example I am/was really scared of serious illnesses, both because of the symptoms and suffering that comes with them and because they might be fatal. Also the notion of su1cide used to evoke strong anxiety in me, because it’s pretty much both fears combined in the most powerful way. The thought that life might become so unbearable that you might choose death instead. I‘ve gotten way more comfortable with these thoughts though a part of the fear still remains. I guess that’s normal though, you never completely get rid of your fears but you learn to live with them

I LOVE this film! My Dad even got emotional watching this, and he’s your regular ole macho Hispanic man. I love that the ending is ambiguous on what Joe decided to do. Did he go back to teaching? Did he go back to Dorothy? Did he figure out a way to do both? Or maybe neither? It’s kinda implied that he is happy with any choice listed above, kind of how our lives could be meaningful no matter what we choose to do.

I had the opportunity to watch this on the big screen last weekend and it's still just as great as I remember it! I don't know how Pete Docter was able to do it, but he finds new ways to impress me in such a great way. This just shows why we love Pixar so much. They always know how to entertain us with concepts that no other studio would think of and that truly is a tribute to their talents.

Another big thing: Joe was in the zone when he was auditioning, but not when he was actually performing. Meaning even though he was on point and didn't miss a single note, he wasn't actually enjoying himself.

No, he just needed to be concentrated. When he was "in the zone" he wasn't concentrate As an artist I know how it feels. And for me concentrated drawing way more satisfying than "drawing whatever your heart desires". When I draw something I really want here and now, my wish will dissapear after 15-20 minutes and I suddenly understand that I don't really want and need to draw this thing.... But when I draw something with purpose and goal, I can dedicate myself to finish the work

I was raised Christian so I still believe in heaven, but with many non-religious people saying there is no heaven, it has kind of made my belief in heaven fade a bit, so I'm also scared of dying. No offense to non-religious, just saying...
@xcorpionz922

I was raised Christian too, but after a lot of stuff that happened, I despise everything to do with religion. I kinda ignored everything to do with meaning of life and death. But I remember watching a video, if nothing has meaning, if everything you do and happens is meaningless, then everything matters equally, you can enjoy life and just live, your mistakes don't matter, and the people in your life, your close ones, your dreams, it all matters as much as you want them to. It's about enjoying life and making the most of it, if there's nothing afterwards, then it's like a book, it began and it finished, what happens in between is for you to write.

If heaven isn’t real, im gonna have a panic attack And quick question!: If they say heaven isn’t real, then is god not real…? I’ll try googling it up! Im honestly kinda scared.. But I think- No, i KNOW god is real, and Jesus as well Don’t listen to those non-religious people, they well find out in afterlife… Im trying to stay positive…cause im just saying IF god wasn’t real, then there is no hope the world, even for me Don’t worry, im just saying, god is VERY MUCH REAL

I also have a rare hereditary disease and movies like this and The Fountain etc always make me a little contemplative. I was diagnosed as a young child, so I've had a long time to come to terms, but as I've gotten older it's started to weigh on me more. I definitely think death is the kind of thing we should be able to talk about, no matter what our feelings about it are. 💕 (edit: accidentally said Tree of Life instead of The Fountain)

I was veery suicidal (i hope i wrote it right) few years back cause ive been bullied from grade 1 to 9 and also my home environment was soo toxic and damagind for almost 10 years. Few years ive been living with my twin sister, doing things i love and taking baby steps to happier and healthier life. Taking time to recover from my many traumas and so low self esteem with therapy. Even if im just 20 years old, i think i have seen so many things that i shouldnt have but im working on to turn those things my strenght! I actually cried,in my 5th grade class i was feeling like 22 whenever she was saying those terrible, harsh things on herself....sometimes randomly i have momments that i realize we dont regenrate like a video game character once your in your hospital bed,or anywhere, and then the last sight and sound is heart monitors,or just the sound of what killed you..and that makes me worry if im making the right choices in life,i alrdy fight with my parents and in those momments i feel like thats just gonna be how my life under somebodys roof will be.and then i look at myself in the mirror, and then i think im fat or chubby.thats why i relate to a song called "glued" my melanie martinez.the ending of this movie sort of made me feel like a light finally brushed away the dark ashes..... thank you for reacting to this rukiya.

Yep, it's a pretty emotional movie, so I would recommend that you watch a Disney movie called The Wild if you have time?

2.10 Rukiya, you don't have to force yourself to not get emotional in front of the camera, it's ok! If you need a minute to process everything, take it. It's really great that you're telling us something so personal to you already :)

You don't need a grand purpose to justify your existence. You being here is enough. You are inherently enough. And a life lived quietly is not a wasted life. Sure, the inventors and famous people in history has changed the world but without the mundane none of them would've mattered. You have a space in this universe and no matter how small you might think it is; it matters. You matter. Always remember that ❤

This movie is an artistic existential masterpiece, the music is transcendent, and it captures what so many of us feel today. Congratulations on surviving your illness and strength of heart and character overcoming it. We all deserve it.

"they make it look so easy and effortless when I know it ain't" YOU'RE SO RIGHT!!! I'm a trombonist and you know what we have to do? we have to hold our instruments in a certain way and it hurts our fingers, and there are different notes in the same position. like F and B flat and D and G. and then we have to move our instruments in certain places! it's so hard.

Firstly I just want to say thank you for your transparency because you don't have to do that at all and I greatly appreciate and love you dearly for it. As for the movie Soul, it never fails to soul punch me and make me cry and I absolutely know why, it's so heavy for me. Everything in me wants to make this comment longer then it is telling my story but the little part of me that's tired won out this time. I do love this film tho, it's one that I'll cherish forever😊

I love this movie soo much! One of my favorite scene call backs is when they first show Joe eating his pie all alone and it looks so negative. But then when he is thinking back on his life and they show him again with the pie, him taking a bite, and it looks like the most delicious bite of pie ever!!

This movie was so impactful for me, especially since my greatest fear is dying (& I'm a musician as well). It helped me come to terms with it, though my perspective changes daily. And while I thought I was done crying over this work of art, your reaction brought all those emotions back again. Pixar really nailed it.
