Lyle didn't turn pro till he was 30 as he was locked up for second degree murder. He found boxing in prison losing his first bout then never lost again whilst behind bars. Lyle was paroled and turned his life around with boxing. Lyle fought in arguably the Golden age of Heavyweight boxing and was more than a handful for all of them who shared a ring with him.

@@frostbyte8743 Long after the fight, with Forman, I remember that Ali said, in an interview, that he changed his tactics after the first round. He was surprised at how well Foreman was able to cut off the ring as he danced throughout the first round. Knowing that he'd tire out quickly if he continued to move out of Foreman's way, he decided to use the rope a dope. The rest is history and the fight wasn't really close.
@hassanigourna6 жыл бұрын
Foreman is a living legend. My favorite quote of his is about Ali wearing him down with the rope-a-dope. George hits him with a heavy shot to the body and Ali snarls "is that all you got George??" and George thinks to himself... "....yeah, just about." Something to that effect.

He meant before the Moorer fight, George gave some of the top heavyweights of the 90s (Holyfield, Morrison) all they could handle, and was practically avoided (!!) by others (Tyson, Bowe). I think Foreman's best fight in his comeback was the loss to Holyfield. Evander was out on his feet by the 12th. Had it went on for 15 rounds, George would've floored him.

@taekwondotime5 жыл бұрын
@@NiggaTruth Agreed. As you get older, you just can't keep the weight off any more. Even if Foreman worked out to the same level of intensity at 45 that he did at 25, and even if he ate exactly the same foods, he would still be 25 lb heavier for no reason other than the slower metabolic rate of the human body that comes with age. That's why it's virtually impossible to look as good at 45 as 25. :)

His second career showed it even more. Watch the beating he took from Holyfield. He took 355 punces from a roid'd up prime Holyfield, most of them power shots. He never even went down during his second career and was only KO'd once (by Ali, in which he punched himself out). Knocked down 3 times, twice by Lyle, which were legit knockdowns and once by Young (which was barely a knockdown). As well as being the hardest puncher in boxing history he's probably the heavyweight with the best chin. He was like The Terminator.
@Bavarian_Lifting2 ай бұрын
which proves that the "knockout" by Ali was bullshit. Ali was nowhere near the puncher that Ron Lyle was, and he barely hit Foreman. He was just taking his time when he was down and he was back up at second 9 and ready to continue the fight just fine when the ref ended it. A bit weird if you ask me

The most two-sided battle of heavyweights in recent memory was the George Foreman-Ron Lyle heavyweight set-to. The scheduled 12-round heavyweight elimination contest was reminiscent of a battle between two bull moose locked in battle, butting heads to protect their turf. A classic exhibition of the manly art of self-defense, it was not. It fell somewhere in between the manly art of self-destruction and a down-and-out bar fight, tempered in part by a hint of something right out of an old Laurel and Hardy film clip. It was, in short, a marvelous mélange of mayhem, with Foreman and Lyle playing it to the hilt, turning it from a comedic sketch into a war -- a war in which neither side was seeking survivors. The two combatants met in the center of the ring, both spent from their efforts and their pounding, both of and to each other, and commenced pummeling one another. A left hook drove Lyle's mouthpiece out of his mouth. Thirty seconds later, a barrage of blows from Foreman caught Lyle in his corner. Lyle seemed about to pitch forward on his face. When a man lands on his face, he hardly ever gets up. Lyle didn't and it was over at 2:28 of the fifth. George's opponent was the sinister-looking Lyle. Lyle, by his own admission, had been to "hell and back". "It was definitely the toughest fight I ever had," Foreman said after the fight.

Agree. When he lost to Ali, it wasn't to boxing but ring strategy. Foreman's crew agreed to those lose ropes. Foreman is literally standing on Ali's foot and the ropes are so lose that he can barely reach Ali. If not for those ropes, Ali would have been killed. Ali knew it and so did Dundee. They just out smarted Foreman and his team.

Magic as always Rummy, love your work. Never ranked your suggestions before but here are mine for those 1-5 fights. 1. George v Michael - How does an old man do that? Moorer was a little HW but still a good puncher, as proved numerous times. Maybe not the chin to face a formidable person as Foreman? 2. George v Joe I - The destructive power of Foreman was amazing, to land shots that would have dropped an elephant was also a credit to Frazier. Foreman at his best. 3. George v Ken - What an exhibition of power. Norton was a technical fighter who could punch hard, though here not hard enough. For Norton not to continue proved Foreman's power in the fight. 4. George v Ron - All you can say is what a fight! No strategy, just in the trenches going hard. Have watched that fight so many times and it still gives me goose bumps! 5. George v Joe II - Frazier was on the downward slide but still a big scalp. Foreman took the opportunity and showed again his power and control.

GEORGE FOREMAN HIS LIFE IS A CREDIT TO HUMANITY
@cockoffgewgle4993 Жыл бұрын
Moorer just had bad tactics and stood in front of Foreman the last few rounds, got complacent. Foreman claims this is because he hussled him by throwing light for most of the fight to trick him into believing his power had gone, which is probably largely BS. But Foreman certainly paced himself a lot better than he did when he was younger. It doesn't matter who you are or how old Foreman is, you can't stand in front of him. He's the biggest puncher in boxing history and can kill you with one punch.

Nice video, editing was spot on except for the Moorer fight. Foreman landed a number of blows in the tenth, mostly heavy lefts, that had Moorer buzzed before the kayo. Also some memorable shots by both in round 8. I would put the Cooney win above Frazier 2, but kudos for recognizing that and showing that knockout as well.

I remember watching the fight and when Moorer kept dropping his hands to his chest I kept saying "All it takes is one shot..." George kind of loosened him up and then dropped him with a casual right. No head movement, no great footwork, no speed, hits like a truck, granite chin. I think his greatest asset was neither his power nor his chin but utilizing his tools in the best possible way! He knew what he had been doing. Because you can hit like a truck but you would miss most of your shots if you are as slow as foreman (thats where his timing and accuracy came in) and take lots of punishment evantually (which he did and that was time when his granite chin came in). It was one of the greatest come back stories of boxing in his fourties. I also believe that that being 40 years old in his generation was like being 50 today. That being said his style and heart allowed him to be successful once he was back. He always had the style of an old man. I mean even if you are 20 and give a break for 6 months you lose speed, elusiveness etc but he never needed those skills, he never had it. Experts say that Lewis is the first modern day heavyweight. I am not comparing Foreman with today’s heavyweights but he could be the one before Lewis. We don’t see much speed, head movement, elusiveness etc in heavyweight division anymore. Wonder if we will ever see a short, inside fighter heavyweight champ again. Nowadays it’s just power and timing except (tyson fury). I think today’s short heavyweights are 6.3😂 yes guys i am talking about 6.3 - 6.2 modern day frazier’s, tyson’s.

You've done it again Rummy...right as i was about to crash 😂 gotta stay up now! Oh and I was equally conflicted between Frazier II (ESTABLISHED Foreman was just a nightmare for Joe) and the Cooney victory (reestablished Foreman as legit and a real deal contender). Rough choice...

After Ali won, he used to laugh and say, "Forman is the one fighter who will never get a rematch with me."
@smurphftw20085 жыл бұрын
It's tragic that they never rematched. Foreman's hubris combined with Ali's toughness and smarts lead to Foreman's downfall in that fight. Ali would not have been able to trick Foreman again the same way in a rematch .... and he knew it.
@h1e2x35 жыл бұрын
Ali would have lost the rematch, IMO.
@therealc.t.70855 жыл бұрын
Ali was actually going to give him a rematch but Ali didn’t expect to leave apart of himself in Manila so he avoided it as long as he could. He got lucky when Foreman lost to Jimmy Young because he was suppose to fight the winner but he ended up taking such a beating from Earnie Shavers that he lost his next fight to Spinks.

I didn't know Ali said that, but it proves that Ali was smart enough to know that Foreman would have changed his tactics and beat Ali the next time.

The content on this channel is always on point. Great to see Foreman in his physical prime. Intimidating powerhouse. Safe to say, most of my generation are solely aware of pudgy older George and his more amicable (boring) persona.

Just in case you're interested there's an older movie, "When we were Kings", about the Ali Foreman fight. It's not a documentary but it shows the difference in temperament between the two. As much as I'd love to like the new, mature George, I'll never be 100% convinced it's not partly an act. But I think he's just not terribly comfortable around people.

Being Heavy fisted does go along way to prolonging a career.. Fighters were different back in the Foreman era.. The kill or be killed rule was just the way it was.. Foreman was hurt, but very functional with Ron L .. so he continued, because he could... Same with Joe Frazier.. Taking a serious beating, but he continued until he know longer could.. That what boxing was all about....

The first Frazier fight should have been stopped after round 1. He was barely standing for round 2 and basically had to be pushed out by his trainer.

I love the example set by George Foreman from what, who he was when he was young, to who he grew to become as a man. That's a lesson for all men and George deserves the greatest respect for realising that compassion and peace and love for all is how life should be lived.

Wow that fight with Lyle was incredible action . The punishment both fighters heaped on the other was off the charts ! How Foreman got the knockout , though badly hurt himself , is a testament to his grit .
