To me, (Mexican teen, Latina, full I grew up in a stereotypical household I guess) not “air kissing” someone when greeting them is so weird, to us is just so natural to say hello or goodbye that way that whenever I travel to the US and have to meet someone I already know (mainly when saying goodbye to people I’ve met recently on that trip), not greeting them like that feels super awkward, cuz I just automatically go in for the kiss in the cheek, and then I have to stop my self because “wait no, this might be misinterpreted or rude for them”. Seeing Ashley being surprised by it just now, it’s a big reminder of how small things like saying hi or goodbye to someone can be so different depending on the culture, country, tradition and how people perspective on little things like this is so variant.

As a fellow over thinker, I identify with so many things you say and you as a person. watching you achieve greater things and continue to grow, the only thing I feel are good things towards you, never jealousy or “I wish I could be her” but rather inspiration to make myself better and feel confident with who I am. you embrace individuality in a very genuine way that shows the struggles and awkwardness that comes along with it, which is what I relate to. as cheesy as it is, you are a rare gem in this youtube mine and im so glad I found you

When Ashley cried after photoshoot, I felt that in my bones and suddenly my own feelings caught up with me of how I would cry as a release of stress and anxiety then be confused as to why I cried, which sometimes seems like an excess of emotion. Thank you for helping to normalize it and for sharing your vulnerabilities and insecurities. I always appreciate watching/hearing that side of you; your editing and video ideas are top notch as well, no doubt, but it is really who you are as a person that draws me (and I'm sure many as well, from reading the comment section). also random thought but I wonder if certain industries/cities can contribute to those feelings? having grown up and still living in new york city, i know it's not the most forgiving place and it always feels like a game of catch up

I found myself crying along with Ashley when she said that because it spoke to so many of my previous experiences as well. i feel like it's inded that vulnerable part of ashley that drawns us to her because, speaking for myself, i've watched multiple content creators from this area and i can never keep up with them, i just get bored or alienated by them at some point. ashley humanizes herself by showing those little moments of crying, self doubt and awkwardness and that is what makes us feel like she's not just a person who is rambling on our screen, she's like a friend or older sister we can look up to. it's cheesy but it's honestly the truth that i found out by binging multiple channels like hers and ending up here waiting for the next video ashley drops. and no it's not just cities/big industries. i live in the countryside and have uni in a city. here we feel that sensation of stress and wanting to cry too, but because we see people leaving and getting on with their lives. we start to think that we are stuck in here, always needing to come back because of the "something" we are working on at the moment and we notice that we aren't able to leave or have the guts to, and when we actually do, we go to the big cities and feel like we don't belong or fit there and it's a neverending cycle.

Oh Ashley, sharing a quote from Dead Poets Society with you: "Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for." It's good to see your thought process because it really makes me feel that you're an empathetic person. But don't worry too much, staying alive is not the aim, it's just a way so that we can enjoy other things in live.

I just want to say that honestly? Seeing this footage is one of the things that has brought me so much happiness. As a kid, I always wanted to go into fashion design. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking opportunities that you are presented with due to your hard work. I promise you nothing about these videos made it seem like you were rubbing it in any of our faces. In fact, you showed all of us the reality of fashion week and offered those of us who could never actually go a chance to experience it through your eyes. Thank you for that.

when she said fashion makes her "feel like a person i want to be" i resonated with that so hard. It's okay to just like clothes and to like to dress up even if it's just for yourself. i feel like with fashion a lot of people only look to see if it is utilitarian and if it is not then it is just vain. But it's more complex than that because it is a form of creativity and expression too.

I don't think I ever left a comment before, but I'm a long time subbie and just really wanted to say I respect you so SO much as a human being. I've watched you since you were way under 1M subs and so seeing you grow so much on KZbin just makes me even more speechless to see how one can still remain so down-to-earth, humble, and modest. To see my favorite youtuber getting to attend one of the most authorized events of her career, yet choosing not to edit out the parts where you feel the most vulnerable and is about to break apart is truely incredible. I don't think I'd ever have the courage to expose my weaker(?) side like that if I ever got this far into my career. And it was also heartbreaking to know that some part of your humbleness comes from insecurity about yourself and your work. It's 2am where I live right now and I literally sat up from my bed to write this comment right now, because I just had to illustrate how much you deserve all of this and I really wish you weren't as hard on yourself as you are. All of us appreciate and admire the hell out of you for simply staying true to your character and your effort to consistently communicate with us. You, and this NYFW series was just a huge blast of inspiration to me that I think I really needed to get me up on my feet. Not sure if you'll ever read this but if you did, hope you're not tearing up again ;) love you so much!💜

Ashley, you may not be saving every ones life doing KZbin and fashion related things, but you are saving US. It’s really hard to connect with youtubers because they only show the pretty side of their life but you, you have shown us every side there is to this industry. Thank you really for being brave enough to show us the ups and downs to your life. We’re all here because in a way we all feel connected to you. We’re all shy, and have our downs with confidence, and you make it easy to bear with knowing we are not the only ones.

I understand her misgivings and mental process though. The fashion world can be very elitist and can set unhealthy standards both for the people working in it and for everyone else that consumes it. I sometimes have the same misgivings about my own career choice (animation/videogames, I'm a digital artist), but I think is like what she says, everything has two sides, one that is beautiful and inspiring, and other that is ugly.

I know fashion is seen as a materialistic and self-indulgent Field, it's not ending hunger or achieving world peace but it brings happiness and that is valid. It very much has a positive impact on the world through providing self expression and celebrating the art and human creativity and that is really vital for humanity. Of course it's not food or shelter but nonetheless it gives you purpose and I think you should not be ashamed of your purpose, you are great, be prideful of that.

Not everything has to be so practical and utilitarian you know?? you don't have to feel bad for enjoying things... It's okay to be superficial... the best things in life are a little superficial... ain't nothing wrong with that..
@chipmunk_sky90814 жыл бұрын
That last clip when Ashley talked about feeling like she's superficial got to me and I feel like anyone who works in the art industry tends to feel like that because what they're doing isn't particularly directly impacting a cause of some sort. I felt similarly since I'm a music student (classical singer) but as humans we're not made to work until death. We're kind of born to then figure out what our own little (or big) pocket of happiness is and if your job is your pocket of happiness then that's even better but if not then all of this artistic energy and creation is out there to entertain and make people feel happy and relieve them from stress which in the long term creates healthy motivation to work harder. This is really long but basically don't feel bad for not doing something to directly improve a problem in this world because the art industry is such a loving environment and nothing is done in vain. It's like a moisturiser. It doesn't do anything to get rid of acne but you need the hydration to keep your skin healthy and healthy skin leads to clear skin.

I think art is what we need more of, because it makes us feel connected to others and understood and alive. It’s a direct response to the human condition- it’s just as valuable as other fields, and certainly more valuable than a lot of the bs we’re surrounded by today.
@chlorox014 жыл бұрын
As a fine art student, I really felt this. I struggled with it for a long time, thinking that what I was doing was so superficial or wasn't "heroic" enough and that art was so minor in comparison to something like a "real" job. But over the years, I realized that the thing that kept me going and inspired me and motivated me to live was art. Without it I probably wouldn't be here today and I know there are millions of others out there who feel the same way. So honestly, artistic/creative fields are just as damn important as any other profession, perhaps just not as directly. (Also I loved your analogy at the end! lol)

There’s a balance between self awareness/being humble and self degradation/ self sabotage. I love that you talked about your thoughts and insecurities. This is something that me and a lot of people relate too. If letting out these insecurities stops you from deleting all of your footage and sabotaging yourself, please continue. It doesn’t take away from the video and makes it so much more real. This is what makes you different from other youtubers and makes me want to watch. My biggest fear is that you stop sharing your flaws because everyone else is pretending they’re perfect when in reality it’s easier to watch something honest.

This is something that has helped me with self-criticism SO MUCH: When I felt shitty it was like even when Id try to "feel positive", I still couldnt get over the guilt of how I wasnt good enough in the past. You know those thoughts of "I cant believe I said/did that Im so stupid"..... 5 minutes later: "lol self care day! Ima be positive! Lets drink kombucha!". That doesnt work. I had to accept, truly accept, the me that made mistakes, the me that felt not good enough, the me that was anxious, and the me that had a petty pity party. Those were all me. But today, I am me of today. Tomorrow, I may make mistakes too, and that will still be me. I dont think self-love is about suddenly loving yourself and feeling confident. Thats bullshit. I think its about embracing all the parts of who you are. The you that is happy, the you that is sometimes fake, the you that is anxious, it is all you. Accept that. Also accepting that love isnt a path you run on towards a finish line, but love is a maze you will have some dead ends in. That is what self-love is--- Edit: woah damn I'm glad some people are taking this to heart! I hope today you're feeling ok! If not thats ok too!! c:

As someone studying design in theatre, it really bothers me how elitist and classist the industry can be. It saddens me that Broadway shows are an experience that isn’t accessible to everyone. You just have to remember that your art form exists in so many different places, and that art can speak to anyone no matter the price of it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a TikTok or if it’s in a cathedral, fashion is expression no matter what. The elite experience isn’t necessary to experience fashion. Just thought I’d share bc it’s something that I’ve learned feeling guilty about going into an industry like this.
