John you will break sub 20 in calmer conditions! Also position yourself near the front before the start in the next sub 20 attempt. You certainly looked boxed in at the beginning & may have lost those few vital seconds you needed. Great times both of you!
@tworunningbrooms8 ай бұрын
Thanks, Kev. I was at the front just behind Dawn, but I'm an even paced runner, not a fast starter. I finished over a minute in front of those, including Dawn, who set off in front. I think it's the kind of course folk try to get out quick so as not to get boxed. I just hold my nerve. Probably the wind more than the start took the seconds away.

Really enjoyed this video. However, I have to admit that I have mixed feeling regarding 'buggy men'. This particular buggy man, although he did a sterling job in sheltering you from the wind (I also would have tucked-in, bytheway) nearly took out the first lady and definitely caused the young lad to stop when he sneaked in between them. Incidentally, I ran Walsall Arboretum yesterday for the first time and was well impressed. No tight turns and pretty sheltered.Perhaps one to consider for a future sub-20 attempt?

Yes he did apologise to the lady which didn't come out as I'd done the talk overlay. Yes Walsall was one of my last Sub 20s. As well as being quick it was quite a picturesque park from memory. 4th May might be a possibility actually as Dawn is doing the Birmingham 10k the following day.

@@tworunningbrooms- if you were running a birmingham based parkrun that weekend, it would be great to meet up and run it with you.

@racheld1844 this is looking like a plan. Have you done Walsall Arboretum yet?

@@tworunningbrooms Cracking. If you do end up running at the Arboretum, May the Fourth be with you. And Dawn, of course. It may very well be the parkrun you are looking for!

@@tworunningbrooms - yes, we ran there 2 days before Christmas. Rory got a lifetime pb and I got 20:19. We’d planned to go again soon as we’d like to see how the marathon training has faired. Definitely a fast course 💨

Nicely done in that wind! I really enjoyed the talkthrough/commentary - you've motivated me to have another crack at sub 20 in the near future (never managed it, got within 4 seconds once).

@@tworunningbrooms Probably Watermead Park again (20:04 PB there - argh), local and pretty fast if the weather is nice and not flooded! Boston (UK) marathon to get out of the way first or else injury threatens I suspect.

Love this parkrun, think I did my fastest time last year here. Cracking time, especially in that wind. We did York yesterday and the wind was instrumental in keeping my speed down and my breathing all over very the place haha. Massive well done pal

Glad it brought back happy memories. York must have been brutal in yesterday's wind. Knavesmire very exposed. I find Hull the best bet on windy days if you're chasing a time.

Great time on a far from ideal morning for a fast 5K in those winds. Looks quite a fast, flat course though as you say it would be a few seconds quicker still if all on smooth tarmac and those sharp right hand turns must cost a little time. I'm sure you'll get your sub 20 on a calmer day.
