My take on the split village/hub system: I prefer it being split for a couple reasons: 1) Village for story, hub for playing with friends. Friend can't play right now? Do village quests. Friend can play? Go to the hub. 2) Village quests being "easier" makes sense because it's just the "local problems" villagers have. You are the village hunter. Hub quests come as assignments from the guild, therefore "harder"/multiplayer scaled. Special monsters are a bigger problems and not just a village issue. 3) Same monsters in different maps. For example, in MHFU I needed some highrank Congalala material but village Congalala was only available in the swamp, which I didn't like too much (poison etc). The hub had Congalala in the jungle. BUT Having no split made sense in the context of World. You were sent there for research. There is no big guild set up in the new world yet. And every local problem is a big problem at the same time there.
@tiberuishunter53903 жыл бұрын

Now i never played GU so if they changed it there then feel free to ignore me but my main issue with the village/hub split was when you had your key quests in the hub only the party leader would get credit for it and if youre playing with 4 people thats 4 times running the same quest to unlock the next level of quests. That was so lame, time consuming and destroyed the fun for a few of my friends. If thats fixed then I would prefer the split rather than it being combined
@afizzoo70863 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I like the split but I hated that we had to do it many times. I hope they add a QoL that makes it so if you join the quest from the start (or first 10 mins like in World), you get a pass too and it counts as complete
@ivory67383 жыл бұрын
They did change it. However only for just the key quests. Urgent quests still requires the rotation. And in GU, one of them was Lao Shang Lung...
@tonyngo18853 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that doesn’t happen in GU. Only with Key quests which is still annoying but manageable until you hit G2 and have to do Lao Shan Lung 4 times. That’s easily the worst part of GU in a 4 man party but after that it’s smooth sailing and totally worth it for Valstrax and Ahtal Ka

If I remember, monsters in hub mode are actually scaled for 2 people. They have something similar to 1.2 or 1.3 the health of village monsters. Even though it's not as exaggerated as what Gaijin said, it does feel like some weapons suffer in G Rank when you solo. In 3U, G Rank quests felt quite slow, in 4U and GU, it wasn't so bad because weapons like 4U IG or Valour LS still performed well. But yeah, bringing a Gunlance in G Rank is a bad idea for if you want decent times solo. Also, the reason why you need to upload to a server for Gen-GU save data is because of the size of the file. The save file for MHXX 3DS was smaller and had different binary registers.
@tiberuishunter53903 жыл бұрын
Yeah and this is my biggest gripe because I want to solo when im not playing online, also it has always been scaled to 2 players in the hub so I wonder what thw reaction will be when fights take longer because we have 4 player scaling back
@nikopierrot3 жыл бұрын
@@tiberuishunter5390 I think they're probably going to have village quests scaled for 1 person. The hub quests might either be scaled up a teeny bit for challenge, or scaled only for 2 people, then increasing when there are 4 people.

@michaelmeissen8443 жыл бұрын
@@an0bserver2000 To add to your point, a case in defense of even “toxic or elitist” speedrunners: I there are some people who criticize certain speedrunning tactics as “cheap” or “cheating” when the speedrunner only sees their tactics as “efficient”. When the speedrunner defends themselves, they come across as elitist to someone who doesn’t play that way. But actually the whole way they play the game is centered around efficiency, so naturally the language they use will reflect that. Also, they spend hours upon hours trying to shave seconds off their time. So, when someone tries to cheapen their efforts, being a bit annoyed is understandable. Furthermore much of the speedrunning community are friends and followers of each other, so when they see their friend’s efforts getting cheapened, they may also go on the offensive. My personal opinion is that “the referee never sees the initial aggression, they only see the retaliation”. I don’t think speedrunners go out of their way to strike first and berate people who are playing in a more casual way. But more casual players tend to be quick to complain as soon as they see someone using clusters, aerial greatsword, or ledge light bowgun.

As a shakuhachi player, i'm actually pretty excited over what i've heard of Hinoa's and Minoto's songs so far, that's some quite nice material to see if i can play or not. On another note, i 100% agree with Gaijin on the notion "You can go 100s of hours in the village only and that's like an entire game on it's own, without never going online". When i started with MHTri, i only went online AFTER going to High Rank in the village (partially because i couldnt really speak or read english back then) and that made online feel like a totally different game altogether. Let them be separate, i say. And we'll see what happens upon release.

gaijin, make sure to play the Steamworks once before hunting Barioth! The jackpot cutscene has an alternate version with Serious Handler (possibly even funnier). I am okay with the name "Master Rank", but (like the pronunciation of "Tigrex") "G-rank" just rolls off the tongue faster. And I would rather see MR quest levels abbreviated simply as "M(number)" instead of "MR(number)". Meanwhile, in MH3U I just today unlocked ... Dire Miralis. (Wish me luck, playing solo!) MH3U protip: DO NOT equip Cha-Cha and Kayamba with the Felyne and Melynx masks at the same time. Their bombs will send you flying constantly. World's integrated progression was certainly good for it, and I agree that the number of optional quests is lacking ... BUT at the same time, older games weren't necessarily better. MH3U for example LITERALLY duplicated quests between village and hub, and repeated the same quests across low/high/G-rank. Same quest description, same map same monster same parameters. In all the hours I've played MH4U I've received a lot of StreetPass tags, and I take particular note of each player's count of "Caravan" versus "Gathering Hall" quests -- I have seen a few players who have made basically no progression in the story mode (some of them didn't even have their Palico yet!). When I transferred my Generations save file to MHGU, I did high-rank village exclusively as Prowler, then I soloed G-rank as Prowler (and a _melee_ Prowler too!) up to and including Ahtal-Ka. I've also soloed most deviants with the same Prowler (though Bloodbath is still left waiting). My opinion on MH World's "cutscene lock": Literally the only cinematics that include multiple hunters are ones that play automatically upon starting the hunt (repeat Zorah, Behemoth, etc.) which is one of two points in a hunt where all available players are guaranteed to be in sync to watch the same cinematic at the same time. I played all the way through _Bravely Default_ with the difficulty set on "hard" right out of the gate. It was awesome -- best turn-based system ever. My love for Final Fantasy as a series declined back in the 90s when FF7 came out, largely because of the PC port they also released. I don't remember which game I had which included a copy of the demo, but clearly something went wrong when I tried to install it because it scrambled all of the pre-rendered background assets into garbage and noise, completely and utterly destroying any sense of immersion. (3D rendering and FMVs were fine and all, but without those lovely rendered backgrounds....) FF6 is more my jam. I remember back in Generations 3DS, soloing that hub quest with triple Hyper Tetsucabras ... I did it, but with just 3 minutes left on the clock. It wasn't the closest shave with the timer I've had but it was definitely one of the "I'm never doing this quest again" hunts. (And the armor sets it unlocked were definitely worth it.) The DLC format for expansions (as proven with Iceborne) is nice for being consumer-friendly, but I agree there's also value in having an updated physical version with the expansion content already baked in.

So, i personally also didn't like worlds combined quests, sure you can say "but things are locked to single player like farm upgrades" but for me thats an even easier fix than that worlds problem. Just make it so certain online quest can also unlock the farm upgrades and such. Generations half did that. If you looked at how you unlock hunter arts, most of them had 2 ways to unlock them. You either did this village quest or this hub quest. They can just do that for ingredients and farm upgrades. You can unlock them either with this village quest or this hub quest. Ofcoarse id still hope that they keep some thing special for people who do like doing single player, but that should be locked to special armor at most. Let me put it this way, if the Hayabusa feather was the only thing that was strictly only obtained through single player, but all farm upgrades and ingredients for your kitchen are obtainable in online without ever touching village, online only people would be perfectly fine through the whole game. Sude they wouldn't get that one armor piece, or maybe a set of 5. But if that's all you actually lose out on. If I was an online only person I would be fine never having them. Does that make sense? Sorry I'm not sure whats the best way to say that^

My only 2 problems with the old quest system is the hub is only scaled multiplayer and the village is missing a whole rank which is scaled to solo while the hub had low and high which is the majority of the rank

The first time I heard the name 'Yuna' I instantly thought of FFX =D 1:16:43 Ah, someone watches Zero Punctuation XD I watched this in two sessions, three things on hub/village: 1: PSP MH made the gathering hall quest scale based off party size when you start the hunt. 3DS changed it so it didn’t matter, my guess was with more access to online more groups had leavers and they didn’t want that to ruin the hunt for those left. In both cases, a solo hunter would only deal with a 1.1x damage and health difference between village and gathering hall. Which is also why 3DS monster hunts went so quickly. 2: Like Gajin said, you could go without touching village, but you had to do gathering hall. Almost all the village upgrades has an equivalent gathering hall upgrade (meaning to unlock one thing there was in most cases a village and gathering hall quest for it and either will do). I think maybe one or two things were village only but most could come from just gathering hall. You do however have to hit the hall or all the village quest won’t appear as some came up after reaching new hunter ranks. 3: Beyond giving you a chance to learn the monster, the were rewards from completing village quest just like the are for gathering hall. I myself start on the village quest then jump to the hall, then after finishing the hall key quest, I make the armor and weapons I like the burn down the side quest in village before doing the same in the hall. All at my pace, but that’s one of the advantages of being a solo hunter, I don’t have to hurry or feel I slow anyone down.

I would like to hear you discuss whether bad monsters (those most people don't care for like Kushala Daora, Cephadrome, Bulldrome and Plesioth) returning would be good or bad. Those lesser monsters could be reworked to be liked more afterall. Maybe you could even talk about different ways they could improve those monsters, like giving Bulldrome an actual moveset.

Just a correction, you couldn't transfer your save data from Tri to Tri G. G had a bunch of changes, including returning to the traditional light & heavy bowgun system, that would have made it incompatible with Tri save data. For those not aeare, in Tri bowguns were crafted as seperate barrels, bodies and stocks that could be mixed and matched into all sorts of crazy combos including the fabled medium bowgun. Gaijin was thinking of the save transfer system between the two versions of G.

Alright, my switch finally arrived, so I can at least play the demo this weekend. I'm really enjoying it, even though I'm still fumbling hard with the joy cons. It also looks very pretty for a handheld console title. There's just one thing I don't like, and it's the mounting. The system itself is cool and handles pretty well, but I hate what it does to the flow of the combat. When I hunted Mizutsune, it was a bit difficult because for me he was a new monster, and I hunted him with a weapon I never really used before. Of course, there was the fumbling with the controls too. Anyway, I mounted the Great Izuchi pretty early, did some damage, and it was cool. Later a Rathian joined, I noticed that Mizu had put it into the mountable state and I thought I was lucky and that I wanted to try using Rathian as well because I liked the moveset. When I finally got close, Izuchi came again, got put into the mountable state by Mizu, and I hit it by accident and ended up delivering the final blow to Mizu that way. If the game near forces the system multiple times per hunt, I don't think it's fun anymore. I felt like I got the win handed to me on a silver platter so close to the end. There was no risk to me, and I could deal high damage. If I didn't want that, I'd have to go away to continue the hunt elsewhere. To be clear, I like the system, but I don't enjoy how hard the game pushes you to use it. The first time I embraced it, the second time I thought it was a good opportunity, but the third time I realized what the game was doing and I felt a bit robbed. I really hope that for the final game, they'll ease up a bit. I don't want to have the monster I hunt put other monsters in a mountable state multiple times per mission.

The village/hub separation is the first thing I’ve ever disagreed with Gaijin on! Love hearing the opposite opinion! Definitely still on my side that combined is better, but only if the cutscene issue is gone. Also, a lack of content doesn’t only stem from the separation of the two. They could just add more content to the combined way as non key quests.

Arch tempered vs apex! Thats what I wanna see yall talk about, More specificly would you rather have the super strong monsters be the elder dragons or the normal monsters. Personally I want it to be like apex, so normal monsters get the tier 2 thing.

I think that if Capcom wants to have people in japan playing like crazy, they need a Kimetsu collaboration. You can even put themes in monsters, like: Zinogre/Zenitsu Tetsucabra/Tanjiro Misutzune/Giyu

Love this podcast, every episode is great! I do hope you bring in some guests, the obvious Arrekz, Ragegaming, Darkside or Herny. Or someone we havent heard of. I think fhe dynamic would benifit if we got more than 2 at least for one episode.

I don’t know about another guest for a whole episode, but maybe for a small segment. The best part of this podcast is the relationship between these two and their shared love for the game.

@@darkdaysahead01 Not denying that, and am not saying that they should or else their podcast sucks. But I like to dream about my fav Hunters talking about the game, having two of them is awesome enough and I loved it.

My hope for a rise colab is a Metroid colab where they add Ridley as a monster. That would blow my mind if they did that.

What was the moment that hooked you two into monster hunter. I mean the absolute specific moment. I've got two. Grinding a low rank Tetsucabra and making the set in 4u and then the second was finding out that high rank existed (by unlocking it) on 4u. That blew my mind!

I'm pretty sure hub quests were hp scaled to 1.5-2 times hp for 1-2 players, but were scaled accordingly to 3 then 4 players, upon who departed. Couldn't tell you if they actually hit harder, or if monsters hp value gets bloated to the point where you will get hit more if you're not familiar or ready for the monster in the first place. I've been playing since MH Freedom 1, and this is what I remember. Granted, MHW is an easy game where your hunter is over skilled. I feel bad for the MHW starters when they might be limited to 3-5 skills. :V

I just wish they would have revisited the collabs from world in iceborne. Like having the dante armor become the devil trigger for master rank or megaman mission giving megaman gear for the hunter would be great. I feel that the collaborations from rise really depends on if it will be fully nintendo switch or not.

Actually Bravely Second’s the sequel to Bravely Default. Bravely Default 2’s the third game in the series, it takes place in a completely different world from the first two games. I highly recommend playing through Bravely Second, it improves upon the first game imo in every aspect except music which they were unable to get Revo back. Second’s ost isn’t bad, but it’s definitely not as good as Default’s. But yeah I highly recommend Second of you liked the first game.

I agree with Gaijin on the cutscenes. I hope they fix that in Rise. They should have made MHW like 4U where you see everyone with you.
