What I would say about Rush is that first and foremost, they were professionals. Some bands, you get the idea that they formed the band in order to party, and the music was a distant second (or third, or fourth…). With Rush, it was always about making the best quality music possible for their fans. Gotta love that.
@bobabooey4537 Жыл бұрын
The music was always for them first, then for fans. I dont think Rush wrote music geared to make fans happy. They wrote music for themselves, like most great bands.
@correctlyrics Жыл бұрын
I agree. There are true musicians...then there are ppl who play instruments. And bands that are, like you said, professional. While other bands are a group of guys playing tunes in a garage who got a record deal.

Proud to be Canadian. I lived in Port Dalhousie Ontario in 1976 when 2112 was released. Neil's parents lived there at that time. Lakeside Park Port Dalhousie is what that song was about. The memories of that song are so vivid of that time. Had the honor of meeting Neil back then. A buddy of mine lived a few doors down from his parents. Odd though i didn't become a Rush fan until A Farewell to Kings Even after seeing them play on Canadian Bandstand in 74 when they played at the Laura Secord school.

@@yellowkangdexasthur4904 WTF? What did you think they were going to do? They as much as said when Neil died that was IT for Rush as a live entity!🤗Just be grateful we had them for 40 plus years and the surprise in Colorado was just icing on the cake. As they mentioned in a recent interview, there was some talk about doing a one-off show with Taylor Hawkins on drums, but obviously, that ship has sailed.😭 Unlike bands like Kiss or Motley Crue, they know when it's time to stop flogging a Dead Horse just for the sake of the money. The boys deserve to enjoy their sunset years in peace. They've moved on with their lives in different stages, with Geddy writing a book and Alex starting his new band. Better to go out on top than to fade away with diminishing capabilities. "Sadder still to watch it die than never to have known it…The bell tolls for thee."😎

Geddy's voice isn't the same as years past here. It has a distinct _'forced'_ sound to it. Between that, Alex's arthritis and all of Neil's problems? It's probably a good thing they hung it up when they did. I consider myself extremely lucky to have seen them live 6 times between their start and the 'Permanent Waves' tour. Also? I *HIGHLY* recommend Geddy's book. _'My Effing Life'._ (He _personally_ reads the audio version)

Perm. Waves was my first Rush tour also. I went on to see their Moving Pictures, Signals and Grace Under Pressure tours (2X) for each of those. And then I didn't see them again until 2015. It was pretty obvious Neil wanted permanently out of touring at that point. The 4 decades of hard intense drumming took a toll on him for sure.
