Russell utterly captivated me once I was old enough to understand/consume his humour. I was mesmerised by how totally masterful he was at commanding a room. He would have a whole studio in the palm of his hands - very few comedians can do that when they're not performing their material. For Russell, the present moment is an act of improvisation and his comedic prowess and command of language is able to have its way. Jordan Peterson once said that the most dangerous thing you can be is: articulate, and upon reflection, it was this weaponry which Brand wielded so masterfully, that I was drawn to. His evolution is very commendable. He was actually one of the people who got me interested, at 16, in world affairs, because the way he would present information on 'Trew News' was a totally new format, that delivered information quickly, thought-provokingly and with his classic sardonicism throughout. Calling out Hugo Boss for making Nazi uniforms at the GQ awards will forever be one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen.

I loved Akaash's statement "If you meet and spend time with a truly religious person, you will never knock religion again. Oh, this is what the good it can have." "We need to use it for the good." We have thrown religion out because people use the power of religion for unhealthy selfish and evil purposes. We need to take it back for its intended purpose of helping people make sense of our existence in relationship to those around us which is simple yet complicated depending on the circumstances.

He's obviously not been outside an abortion clinic with a truly religious person!
@marchfifth1754 Жыл бұрын
No, there is no good. Especially secular monotheistic religions. Don't pick and choose what to preach or practice those books are disgusting. They talk about rape, murder, mutilation, slavery and they allow all of it. We don't need a book to teach us morality, they have no place in modern society.

Sorry, you haven't met a truly religious person that Akassh was referring to. I don't disagree that there have been, are, and will be religious people that have done horrible things. However, I know that history has also shown us numerous religious people that made the world a better place.

I have to be honest and say I didn’t like Russell much back in the day but he is now one of my favourite personalities. What I didn’t realise back then, which is on me, was that for someone who talks so much he also really listens, and listens intently. Its highlighted at 51:10 when Akaash was making a point and then Russell gave a genuine smile at the end. Brilliant show.

This is exactly what I needed, when I didn’t know I needed it. I just gained so much respect for Andrew and the crew, R. Brand is a gem on many levels. We all have lessons to learn and some are more prominent than others… We should all be learning by degrees. ‘If life keeps askin’ you the same questions, you ain’t learnin’ the lessons’… -The Grouch When you stop growing taller, start growing smarter. Otherwise you’re just asleep or the walking dead. We can all be better and do better, I’m sincerely wishing everyone the best in this attempt at progression. Two steps forward, one step backward, but always be moving forward. Seek and understand the divine paradoxes of this life, they can all be reconciled.
