Since our institution offers Microsoft 365 to faculty and students, I integrate Microsoft Teams, Flipgrid, and Trello to define the LMS for my Listening and Speaking course.

Great job Russell! I understand what you are saying about separating the "live session" and the "platform". I am working in Japan at various universities each of which has a different platform or LMS (Moodle, Manaba, Webdisk). Each of my universities has mandated that we use MS Teams rather than Zoom because they had perceived security issues. I was thinking that as a way of streamlining work for myself and my students to have the 'live session" and the "platform" both on MS Teams as Teams also has an Assignments section and Posts section for communicating to students. Of course MS Teams did not start as an educational tool but rather a corporate one but now they are they are rapidly trying to adapt to give greater functionality in the educational context. I am not sure if you are very familiar with Teams but I would like to ask you to comment for myself and many other teachers about whether a "one stop shop" on MS Teams might have both advantages and any disadvantages compared to separating into different platforms? I have now trained myself up on MS Teams but there are some challenges as we don't have the possibility to have more than three groups meeting actively in "channels" (equivalent to Break Out Rooms on Zoom). Therefore in a class of 21 students for example, the group size is 7 students which is not ideal. Not sure how to get around this. Normally I would like to do pairwork and group work but maybe this is impracticable and I am trying too much to replicate the "regular classroom". I understand your idea about a greater emphasis on the platform. Any suggestions or comments are very welcome... Keep up the good work! You are making a difference for many teachers.

Mark, really lovely post and you are clearly ahead of the game. I can see MS TEAMS having some real potential and the rumour is they are working like mad to make is compete with Zoom. So let's see what happens. I think you will soon be able to make more breakout rooms.

Thanks a million. So useful. I don't understand what you mean by the publishers.??
@ttvRussell4 жыл бұрын
Hi Suzie. Thanks for your comment. I'm talking about educational publishers. Those who usually publish physical coursebooks, materials, but have a lot of online material, too. This is increasing these days.

Hel;lo Donna. Screencast-o-matic is a particular favourite, or Loom, or my preference SnagIT: www.teachertrainingvideos.com/snagit/introduction-to-snagit

If you have microsoft teams is it worth having edmodle ? Why use edmodle if microsoft teams can do the same job?
@ttvRussell4 жыл бұрын
It's a good question. MS Teams if a collaboration tool for live meetings. Edmodo is a virtual learning environoment to support a live lesson. They compliment each other. They do different things.

Hi, Eman. A Mac and the iOS should work as well as on a Windows device. Although my tutorials are all down using Windows, you can use iOS and Zoom has some guidance for that here: support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360016688031-Using-the-Zoom-Client-and-Zoom-Rooms-with-macOS Here are some ideas for teaching online: kzbin.infosearch?query=teaching+online
