The 6b47 and 6b7-1m use "dry aramid fibre" on the inside, which means aramid without resin. This makes the helmet lighter, but it also makes it deform more when hit. This work against fragmentation, but as shown it presents issues when shot with higher kinetic energy projectiles like bullets. According to Russian testing, the ssh-68 is slightly superior to the ssh-60, maybe it only works against fragmentation. From what I have seen, the "K1" alloy used seems brittle. Thanks for the video

@fallout11163 жыл бұрын
The British, Italian, Dutch, and German militaries still use similar suspension systems. US M1 pot and PASGT helmets did as well, which is what I was issued back in the day. There's actually a significant airspace between the internal suspension (when worn) and the shell of the helmet itself, such that ~20mm of deformation wouldn't even reach the side of the head. The reviewer seems unaware of this. Not saying the newer "football helmet" pad systems aren't better, but that this old style isn't necessarily garbage.

Honestly the 6b47 I was already expecting it to be equivalent to a decent steel helmet given its weight. I got it back in the mid 2010s when I had more cash and the only other helmets I had were the us M1 and an M88 PASGT. It's so damn light I doubted it would stop more than a 9mm to begin with and I came from the old school mentality of "helmets are for frag protection and nods mounts only". I have have some minor customization that improved it, not in terms of ballistic protection but fit and comfort. Kept the headband ditched the rest of the sus system and added aftermarket US style velcro pads so It fits more securely and comfortably. The GSSH's "headsock" tweaked a bit to fit better, unlike some aftermarket kits. Replaced the russian helmet light with a more durable US one after I found out just how easy the ruski ones break by dropping it just once. I don't do night stuff very often so I'm still working on a counterweight setup and I'm also looking into aftermarket covers for it. Anyone have recommendations on a good bipod for the side pic rail? I've been told that the lesser protection of the modern ratnik helmets compared to its contemporaries has been to lower the weight of gear to the infantry man wearing it. Though it could have just been made to be cheaper as well.
@prfwrx24973 жыл бұрын
Both. Helmet weight is unsuspended weight and really fucks with your neck more than it might seem. To me, it seems that the regular army only get frag helmets, while the strike teams kicking doors for a living will get the heavier law enforcement k pots that stop bullets. Heat retention is also a factor I think. I'd reckon the old suspension bucket dissipate heat better than foam pads.

Thanks for the informative ballistic test on those authentic Russian army helmets. I am very curious about the test result of 6B14 (ssh68M). Do you think it has reached NIJ level 3A or more? I really had high anticipation for this one because of its special design. Theoretically, it should stop some powerful calibre rounds with its design.

Great video, its really cool to see an actual ballistics test on modern military helmets. 6B47 seems to be significantly inferior to the US Military issued ECH helmet which is capable of stopping most rounds up to 7.62x39 and even 7.62x54 from a PKM at 20ft (although this did happen under combat conditions not test conditions and I doubt you could expect it to consistently stop this caliber). Also it supposedly only weighs 3lbs which is quite impressive.

Do not agree with your disappointment. ) 6B47 is the best lightweight helmet in the world. It weights 1.09 kg or 2.5 pounds. It's nothing. For how long you can wear IIIA helmets which weigt 1.6 kg or 3.5 pounds? Well not for long. And this is a problem. And 6B47 you can wear for 24 hours or more. Today i bought 6B47 for myself just in case. To be ready. And really happy with this. The price was 200 US dollars. )

A standard infantry helmet should not be considered a lightweight helmet. Soldiers have died because of this thinking. Your countrymen.
@ratibor3000 Жыл бұрын
@@Oxide_does_his_best OK, got your position. But when you are in trenches for days... without any "vacation"... it hard to wear 3 and more pounds on your head. 6b47 is very good in fragments protection. This the main purpose of helmets. But in case I decided to make additional cover from uhmwpe for 6B47 ) to update protection level and make it more versatile. My experiment.)

I don't mean to cope with my budget, but most other SSh 68 helmet tests that I've seen have been able to stop 45 ACP with some deformation, but no penetration. This could be because the helmet seen in this video seems to be a later model, or it could be in poor condition. I would appreciate feedback regarding these details. Thanks.

Important to point out for all the people laughingly the comments at how crap the helmets are, it’s stated in the video that all the helmets shown here are only the GOST 1 rated models, Russia has 6 levels of GOST rating. This level is basically on par with US lvl.1 armor rating, what your really looking for is something like a lvl.2 or lvl.3a, which is more in line with Russian GOST 2 levels
