It seems to me that Russia does not take large cities of Ukraine, because it does not see the point in incurring losses on its part and not killing civilians, it is easier to surround the city, cut off all supplies, and after a while people will understand this and will surrender. People are overlooking something, notice that surrounded blue spot to the northeast of Kyiv? That represents a large Ukrainian army that has been successfully enveloped and trapped. The Russians don't have to do anything, they just need to wait, eventually that army will be forced to mass surrender or die of starvation. Rumors has it that army has around 40K soldiers. 40K soldiers on mass surrendering would be back-breaking for the Ukrainian army. Ukraine just doesn't have the numbers to make mistakes like this. . . War isn't always about capturing territory, it's also about capturing armies. That's why the Russian armies in the northern half of the country are not moving. They want to hold their superior position until this Ukrainian army surrenders.

The Russian offensive in the East seems to have slowed down as of late - perhaps they have lost their momentum, or possibly they are gathering forces for one final push to close the pincers while fighting for the control of strategic points and consolidating the progress made before. By contrast after some setbacks in the past days they have consolidate the north further and have began to slowly enclose on the cauldron south of Cernihiv. The biggest progress in terms of advancement was actually north of Mikolayv, although perhaps of all the sectors now open that is the far less relevant one and less useful to Russian strategic aims - too far south of Kiev for any possible encirclement within the near future, not close enough to Odessa to deny all major ports to Ukraine within a short timeframe. It is close to one nuclear power plant which the Russians may want to seize as they did in Zaporozhia, and could perhaps divert some Ukrainian forces from other sectors to defend an otherwise open area, but that's about it.

Transnistria itself declined to partake in the war on day 2. Activating the small amount of russian forces stationed there would also additionally basically mean adding a war with Moldova to the situation. I doubt that's something Russia is looking forward too. No guarantees they will stay out of the war permanently, but for now they aren't in it, and neither are the Russian troops stationed there.

@@tylerclayton6081 there is no propaganda in my words. Security Service of Ukraine killed Denis Kireev - official diplomat that was talking with russian delegarion about peace. There are also a lot of photos and videos in the internet about help for ukrainians cities under russian control. And they are not the montage from the videogame just like the ukrainian "Ghost of Kiev", that was just a part of gameplay from Arma.

Там же вообще как таковой нет линии фронта во первых, во вторых - никто территории как таковые не захватывает (цель совсем другая). Я честно говоря даже и не знаю как в такой ситуации карту БД рисовать можно. Это ж чисто как в прошлую гражданскую - высокоманевренные группы передвигаются от одной точки к другой, если город решил сесть в осаду - его с ходу не штурмуют. Сетецентрический вид боевых действий. И да - это не война как таковая, это по факту контр-террористическая операция, что бы снять наконец угрозу ЛДНР со стороны Украины. Переколотить всю технику, технические средства, склады, в общем - демилитаризация "на горячую". А Зеленский - как актером был, так актером и помрет. Не смог договориться мирно, найти компромисс (хозяева не позволили) - так он решил за счет своих граждан время потянуть. Будь на месте русских американцы - они бы там по Крещатику катались просто за счет того, что не заморачивались бы сохранением жизни мирняка, а хреначили бы изо всех стволов во все что шевелится. А русские из-за приказа сверху быть "вежливыми людьми" только лишние потери понесли. Хорошо хоть выводы сделали.
