I've seen some people in the media and on youtube say, the Russians overextended or the military is not as good as the Russians claim. Most analysts point to Iraq, with the military defeated in roughly 3 weeks as a comparison to why Russia is struggling. But what most people fail to acknowledge is the US did not invade Iraq alone. It was backed by a number of NATO countries including UK, Australia, Italy, and a few others. Also unlike Iraq, Ukraine is actually being supported by US/UK/NATO weapons and training. Although I can't independently confirm this, I also wouldn't be surprised if the US was also supplying intelligence, and reconnaissance information to Ukraine military. This is a difference maker, which for modern warfare requires instant information sharing to coordinate an effective combined arms strategy. One last point to consider is Ukraine is almost twice the size of Iraq.

Putin believed in his own propaganda about the alleged Bandera in Ukraine, and thinking that the Ukrainian people were suppressed by their state, Putin expected to take Ukraine in 3 days. This is evidenced by the words of Russian propaganda (I live in Russia), as well as the situation at the front now. Russian military command apparently didn't prepared sufficient supplies, and the Russian troops don't have any numerical superiority over the Ukrainian army, although the attacking side suffers greater losses than the defending side. At the same time, Ukrainians have high morale, and Russians are demoralized and don't want to fight with the fraternal people. The Russian army is advancing without normal supplies and doesn't actually establish control over the territory, moving with the help of convoys vulnerable to ambushes on the roads. And after 2 weeks, the Russian army got bogged down, having just reached Ukrainian cities and achieved average success - Kherson and Melitopol were occupied, Mariupol and Chernihiv were taken in encirclements. There is no supply in the encirclements. And the Ukrainian troops in the encirclements are doomed. Russia need to reinforce the Ukrainian theather and form the frontline, stopping the attack by roads and establishing control over the territories. Russians need to build supply infastructure. When Russians doing this, Ukrainians would have opportunity to mobilize manpower and counterattack. Russia would win this war, but there would be high casualities from both sides and the war would last for a long time. There is possibility that Russia would accept a peace threaty, like in 2008 - when Russia didn't fully conquerred Georgia and peace threaty was made.

Also surround the country from all sides without missing the west side.....Russia failed. They don¨t have enough men to conquer Ukraine, They don¨t have an Air Force because they have conscripts with less than a 100 hours of fliying. They used conscripts instead of proffesional soldiers. The Russian offence seems to be stalling for the first time since the invasion started. Two explanations more likely: 1) they overextended, underestimated the enemy and are bogged down. They still should be able to pull through if they decide to do so, but it will require far more effort, losses and time on their part. 2) they are gathering troops, consolidating control over strategic keypoints and allowing more experienced troops to pour in as they prepare for a major push Within the end of this week we should be able to see which one of these options is true.

@@alevilikvealeviler 216,000sqkm is an extremely generous estimate, & also you have to keep in mind that the vast majority of this territory is sparsely populated & was left deliberately undefended by the Ukrainians. Why put all of your resources into trying to hold off a much larger army right next to the border where they can easily resupply when you can conserve your forces by placing them strategically around major cities, forcing the Russians to overextend & make their supply lines vulnerable? This strategy is working out really well for them - we're on the 16th day of the invasion & the Russians have not managed to take any major cities other than Kherson - Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv - all really close to the border & yet they're fully under Ukrainian control. Even Mariupol has been successfully resisting the siege despite the Russians murdering hundreds of their civilians every day via indiscriminate bombing.

Belarus's inability to get any forces into the field is surprising to me. Russia is advancing as one would expect. They lost the rail lines early on, and haven't captured airports, so they can only supply by truck and there's a reason that's their third option. This means they can't move quickly, and can only ever get about 120 km ahead of a supply depot. The weather also hasn't cooperated. Ukraine's ability to use NATO AWACS data for strategic decisions and targeting has also helped to bolster the defence of Ukraine

There is pretty much nothing going on there. The russians avoid capturing strongholds, unless absolutley necessery. Only small raiding parties engage sometimes and then the ukrainians are claiming thet they repelled another big offensive. Mariupol and Izum are the only cities that are getting conquered step-by-step right now.

There is one problem, this greatly oversimplifies what real world "gains" actually are, Russian gains are greatly exagerated, for example south of Chernikov Russians only really control the highways they needed to attack Kiev, the small towns and villages are not taken at the moment. This kind of "mapping" is more appropriate for ww2 with proper "frontlines" and soldiers literally filling every single possible meter of ground forming essentially a fighting line pushed back and/or advancing forward.

nearly day 16 and Russians still haven't even begun to press into Kiev. Kiev is about a 20 minute drive from Belarus. The USA took Bagdad in 19 days with almost zero casualties. Bagdad is hundreds of miles from the border where the USA pushed in. The USA had Iraq on notice for nearly 2 years that the invasion was coming and Russia launched a surprise sneak attack invasion after promising for a month that Putin would 'never attack Ukraine' and that the impending invasion was just 'Western propaganda'. They've made strong gains in the Kiev suburbs and in the towns to he east of Kharkiv. There also were major air raids on Dnipro which is ominous since if they take that city, or just block it off from the east, they will basically cut off all ukranian troops east of the dniper river.

This map is weird and inconsistent with the reality. For example Russia never took such vast control of Zhitomir region. Hence Ukraine never retook it because it was never controled by Russia so significantly in the first place. The same with such huge territories west to the Kiev. Or another bright example: Russia and LPR never took control of the whole Lugansk region, only now on 23rd of February the allied armies are starting to fight for Severodonetsk and Lisichansk (nothern part of Luhansk region), but it's far from over while before that on the showed dates the Russians and LPR were far from the region. So it looks likes the author makes it randomly based on his artistic vision and fantasies. I hope he will remake it in much more factial way. I really liked the music and graphics though.

Russia’s done it before and they will do it again. It’s actually not that hard to occupy it, it’s just wartime propaganda to keep morale up. Germany occupied France, Poland, Belgium, Latvia, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, Estonia, Norway, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia, and giant parts of the USSR all at the same time, and this was back in WW2 with worse communications, and a smaller population.
