I have had good results mixing Rust-Oleum enamel, with upol 4-1 European nano clear, and upol system 20 hardener. I have used 1-3-1 and 2-2-1 with good results. Sunshine red covered in two coats with the 1 part red, 3 parts clear, 1 part hardener. No reducer was needed.

Thanks for video, I am just learning on using this paint, been in auto-body world over 30 years, but just for beater projects, I want a cheap way to paint, without spending upward of $500 for paint and clear. just discovered this a few days ago about using Rustoluem paints. have you made notes with weights of mixes as you achieve colors? like a Rustoleum color chart, that would help get people towards color that they want? to get closer to cars original shade? or shade they want. I looked today at 1 local place, but had tractor versions of color, but will definitely do more looking and maybe order online

Great videos!!! Question regarding clear coating over oil based Rust-Oleum paint, how are you able to not get any wrinkling? I have seen many other videos, and experienced it myself on a small project, where I kept getting a bad reaction to clear coatint over Rust-Oleum oil paint. Can you provide any information that may help? Thanks!!!

Thank you so much for this video. I am wanting to paint an old Chevy Truck with the Rust-Oleum Regal Red. I had been wondering how I could add some metallic effects to the paint and this video answers my questions. I assume from this video that the Metallic can be added to the pretinted Regal Red Basecoat and wouldn't necessarily have to use the Masstone as you have here. Am I correct and how well will the metallic show when on the truck?

Awesome. I haven't seen that masstone base in any local stores for a while, but I haven't looked either, what kind of store did you find it in? I believe that is the dark base and there is a light base also. I know that the local Ace offered to custom mix a color for me with it a few years ago with the provision "we don't have the right formula's here so we'll get it close but can't guarantee a perfect match." I'm surprised at the massive amount of tint in the Rustoleum, that first Ace thought that they could just use the white as a base before finding that they had tinting bases in stock. I'm glad we didn't try it. You keep saying that you mixed the third one with "silver." Rustoleum doesn't make a sliver. I'm guessing that is Aluminum or one of the greys? I _really_ like the effect. I was going to try to get something similar by mixing some Sail Blue in with the Aluminum. Adding the appropriate pearl looks better than I was expecting that to work but I may still try it. I'm going to second that you should spray out some of your mixtures since mica's and pearls look different when the particles are laid out and this stuff might look completely different sprayed. Finally, you said you mixed the Japan drier as per the label. I wasn't able to find any crown brand when I looked for it 2 weeks ago or so (although I saw some on the shelf at HD yesterday), but I'm assuming that the different brands are functionally interchangeable and the 2 brands that I did see you're mixing at 2x the "maximum recommended ratio," On the labels based on your previous videos (I actually went and re-wound that section and watched multiple times to make sure, no use reinventing the wheel if you've found what works already). One warns that mixed at half the ratio you're using it may tint light colors darker.
@gorrillacgorilla4054 жыл бұрын
The mass-tone is really not high quality but it works alright to do what it does I think true value has a brand you can order to deliver to store and pick-up. I did say silver it is aluminum...Just do what the label say's you'll be safe...mine said 2-4 oz per gallon probably got mixed up...there's nothing hard or fast about these videos just outcomes...I mess up plenty of work trying this stuff out somethings work better than others...that's the game to find out. Thanks for the comment. I'll post more on the subject soon.

Is Rust-Oleum Gloss tint what gives the clear coat element to single stage paint, and would you expect it to react negatively with Rust-Oleum Industry Tractor Paint? I had a guy ask me if I could spray his truck with Ford Blue, then wants pearl and metal flake added. Then wants it topped with a wet wet clear. I have honestly never touched enamels, except to sand and reclear old enamel with new clear urethane.

Awesome video, I have been playing around with the same idea. I have been using a lot of solvent to thin the regular base color to get it thinned and then the pigment powder goes a lot further and it sprays better, I rely on clear for gloss anyway. I remember you saying in another video Rustoleum does not make the masstone mixing base, right? Do you know if anyone else makes something that is comparable you could substitute?
@gorrillacgorilla4054 жыл бұрын
I ordered it from Menards sometime ago now they will not ship...you could order it I think at a Rustoleum dealer like home depot or lowes I'll look into it more for you guy.

Funny enough you mention Menards, I tried googling Rustoleum 7507 and Menards came up with a listing show it was available at my local one so went a grabbed a gallon ($28) and played with it a little so far and its definitely a game changer trying to play with this stuff for custom mixing, lol.
