rusty old vw bug cold start and will it clean up?

getting this barn find bug to get ready to put it on the road and ready to sell, so l stripped it with cleanser then brought it to vw nut for him to compound and wax, it aint great but much better then it was. sorry about the wind noise still getting used to the new camera, vw nuts video here • buffing Mustie1's 1968...

Took my driver's test in a 68' bug 40 years ago and it was a dream, the examiner ask me if he could drive back to the highway patrol station/dmv. He drove really slow and smiled the entired ride. I PASSED !!!

Nice old car you have there. They used to build them here in Ireland in the early 70s I think and everybody had them. The interior smells like nothing else and brings back fond memories to me of when we had one. Remember getting stuck on the beach and pushing it. They are heavy beasts.

Love the "68s", first year for the IRS and still has the look of the early models, so many of those were canibalized to make dune buggies and sand rails that it's a pleasure to see one still intact! I myself am guilty of hacking up more than a dozen of these for the sake of my off-road passion, those and Corvair motors...wish I had them all back...no, I'd probably do the same thing again!

Have a fondness for that blue bug that I just can't explain..maybe it's the way she starts on even that old gas after sitting, or the relatively clean underneath carriage, and am glad I have no room, or need to add additional projects or I'd start talking about to you about acquiring it! Really do think it is worthy of being prepped and painted. Although she looks pretty after Brian's touch, he is so good at that kind of stuff. Just please don't get an idea of adding hydraulics to any of your vehicles..at least not the classic ones! Know you could do it..but better things to do with time and energy.

Brings back memories. My first car was a type 3 that same color. It was white when I bought it but after buffing it was that shade of blue. I had to do it the old fashioned way, without an electric buffer.

heres a good tip for those who dont know, some pressure washers have a screen inline somewhere in the hose. i got me a free one from someone recently he said the pump was bad, i couldnt get water to run through at all even off, so i took apart the hose , the wand etc and found a couple screens inline that were clogged, now i have a free working pressure washer.

good idea to pressure wash the inside of the bumpers and fenders too,great job i have a 10,000 mile 68 my self that's on my todo list try mineral spirits on the duck tape let it soften ,comes right off

I was just watching you try to scrub the rust off this bug. I once used ajax to scrub the rust off a 66 chevy I had. It worked great. It was white with rust bleeding through and the ajax got it off .and left the paint.

I had a very similar Chevy Caprice Classic! Mine was a 77. Two tone and half vinyl roof. That car was comfortable and roomy. It was my dads and he bought it new and eventually it became mine and then it was passed onto my uncle.
