RWBY Theory - The Semblances of Tyrian and Rare Faunus

Tyrian, as well as the other rare faunus that we have seen throughout the RWBY series have special abilities associated with their animalistic trait that they posses. Is this trait directly linked to their semblance or does it prevent them from having a semblance entirely? What do you all think? Let me know in the comments below!

Tyrian are a rare species of Steel- and Poison-type Pokémon that is often found scurrying in abandoned towns, and rundown villages. Tyrian are often up to no good at the word of their trainer, whom they follow doubtlessly in every word. Tyrian is the evolution from Callows; The inexperienced Pokémon. Tyrian is a name derived from a shade of purple which represents the poison that he injects his trainer's foes with. When Tyrian are not lounging in abandoned towns and villages they often wander dark, empty alleyways in search of their next victim. Tyrian average 6'2" and 172 lbs. Abilities: (% chance to acquire) 100% Poison Point, Hidden Abilities: (% chance to acquire) 10% Infiltrator, 15% Run Away, 75% Poison Touch, Shiny Tyrian have silver, metallic tails, as opposed to their usual black, and their poison is slightly brighter." It's pretty much aura penetration. Cause when he gets a direct hit on his opponents their aura shows then cracks. He also finds Jaune interesting maybe because his aura might be different and might be an exemption.

It's probably due to Jaune's semblance of Aura enhancement/restoration/healing. It's the polar opposite of Tyrian's.

Yeah because aura draining or poisoning vs Aura amplifier and healing. Very intresting especially by how very different they are. Jaun wants to help protect has strong sense of morality very Lawfully good while. Tyran is Chaotically evil but maybe also slightly lawfully evil since he follows at least the order Salem asks for.

I definitely think you're on the right track because if you think of tyrion's past he was a serial killer and in a world like Remnant where a lot of people are running around with enhanced abilities you would need to overpower them and kill them quickly otherwise you're in for a fight.

That's because it's part of their semblance Klein is based off of their seven dwarfs so I'm guessing different emotions are different eye color Neo can change her eyes and appearance in general due to her semblance Yang's semblance is called Burn I think so it would make sense for her eyes to turn red This is just me I'm not certain but Yang and Neo are humans not faunus

​@@whyamihere4889 Yang's eyes do indeed show the difference between standard and enraged/Burn activation *as her eyes did change when they were casually sipping tea in Haven and someone(either Ruby or Weiss) brought up Blake, so perhaps emotional hurt can activate Burn just in a different way?* Neo's eye change is definitely semblance-related as she only reverts back to basically say "Ha you fucking loser, you got tricked by my disguise" without uttering a word, and Klein's eye change is based on which of his personalities is in control

Devin Tucker scorpions have poisoned tails. I think the eye color lot is when it activates. The new tail probably is connected in a way he can still generate the poison, but his semblance hasn’t been shown. I think his semblance has something to do with his mental state.

Seeing his nasty scars and behaviour, my theory is a bit more dark. I think he suffered some kind of torture/abuse at the hands of someone or something to a degree where he would desire more than anything in the world to get to inflict the same pain on it, keeping his target alive as long as possible, and after managing to do so he discovered that he enjoyed it. My guess is it was probably his parents, since it would also explain his obsession with pleasing Salem. It's not uncommon for people who grew with abusive/neglectful parents to have a constant need for the approval of others, specially authority figures. Early Weiss could also be considered a very tame example of this kind of behaviour, with her need to be the best in class. It could be just her pride, but it also might have been born partially out of this developed need to please an authority figure, in this case a teacher.

I think his semblance might have something to do with how he managed to travel to and from Salem's Lair so fast. Something like a fast travel semblance which might help explain how he and Watts managed to slip past the border. He is based on the Scorpion and the frog in which the Scorpion uses the frog to get across a river but stings it mid travel. Instead of forming a bond like Raven I think he can travel to places the people he's killed have been. A bit wild, dark, and out there I know but hey so is Tyrian.

I would agree but the Schnee semblance of Glyphs being genetic which means genetics can have an affect on Semblance in some cases

I agree. A semblance, being something that has a metaphysical origin (which of course then translates to a physical capability), makes less sense to me if it can be dictated by DNA (completely physical). Maybe an inherited semblance can be something a new soul inherits from the souls of their parents. If that is the case and (like you said) the semblance isn't connected to the physical aspect of the person at all, the more unusual or even "gifted" faunus can unlock their semblance just like Blake or Sun, and it doesn't have to have anything to do with their faunus traits. I'm personally a bigger fan of the self preservation theory that they hadn't had the opportunity/need to unlock their semblance.

@@PhoenixNight The Schnee semblance is hereditary, not genetic. Think about it: A child is a combination of their parents. Maybe in RWBY, this is referring to more than just genetics. I mean, it has been stated somewhere, I think, that siblings sometimes have similar semblances. Something in the Schnee semblance just makes it completely overshadow any other semblances, preventing them from mixing and forming a new one.

Maybe the Schnee semblance even erases all traces of other semblances. Otherwise it would be possible, albeit unlikely, that a Schnee has a different semblance.

I think that maybe Tyrian’s semblance is fear-induced paralysis! Every time his eyes change color, his enemies freeze with hopeless looks on their faces. Perhaps he wears them down, freezes them, and makes his final move?

Regarding Tyrian’s eyes, I’ve always heard the whole “It’s connected to his Semblance” theory, like with Yang. But I highly doubt it, especially with the most recent episodes. From the first time I ever saw it, I just viewed it as his venom being ‘active’. His eyes only and always turn purple when he’s about to use venom, almost like a warning. So I think it’s just a physical trait connected to that rather than aura or semblance.

His senses are because he is a scorpion faunus, scorpions have terrible eyesight but make up for it with hearing. The can react really quickly in a fight because metal makes a distinct sound when moving. This also explains why he didn’t fight back when Qrow was punching him.

This is a very good theory and something I wondered myself given the odd showcase on these very faunus in the world companion book. Having such traits pronounced within the book in place one might see semblance. Though I would like to make one slight correction on your analysis. What we witnessed during the Qrow and Tyrian fight was not an aura break but an aura shimmer. Auras shimmer and crackle when close to breaking. Similar to.what happened to Yang in her character short. We can confirm this by the fact the beam suddenly fell down on Ruby's head. That was a product of Qrow's semblance despite it happening after the aura shimmer. I do however want to make note of an odd line mentioned in regards to semblance I found on the wiki that says a semblance "shouldn't" work after an aura has broken. It is odd to me to use that particular word. As if to imply there may be times where a semblance can trigger despite aura being broken. Could this tie into aura regeneration maybe? Regaining just enough to activate it again briefly. Another aspect I'd like to mention that no one I know touches upon is Pyrrha saying even animals have souls. I think back to Zwei and his feats in volume 2 and figure he must have aura as well. So does he also have a semblance for compressing himself into small spaces like an envelope? Its a tangent of sorts but to get back on topic. I think it's more to the point that maybe they have come to rely so heavily on these faunus traits in battle that they never actually manifested a semblance. Not everyone does. It depends on your nature. Roman never did. There is also the fact that Pyrrha said that everyone has light and dark in them. And understanding both sides is key to controlling your aura. For those who sink more into the darker side. This may be a product of manifesting more negative semblances like Qrow or even Blake. Which as a side note I am almost certain Blake must have minor teleportation skill to escape from Trifa's web like that.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the video! I'm not entirely sure how to tell the difference between an aura shimmer and an aura break from visuals alone but in this case their aura was definitely broken as Tyrian and Qrow were both cut soon after. Qrow's semblance is a unique one in that it is constantly active and does not need aura to use it. It is Qrow's semblance that the wiki is referring to when they say 'shouldn't' work after an aura break. Qrow can use aura to amplify his semblance though. As for Zwei, I may have a theory about him coming out in the next week or so... 😁 I do agree, as I mentioned in the video, that it is likely they never manifested their semblances due to relying on their faunus traits. You make a very interesting point though about the light and darknes inside a person affecting the outcome of their semblance. I have been spitballing ideas about a light and darkness concept video for a couple months now and this could be a good tie in as well. Blake having a bit of teleportation makes complete sense as when she uses it to dodge an attack, she often ends up moving a completely different direction that she was moving before. She's used it to dodge mid air before and moved in a different direction. Momentum doesn't work like that lol

Phoenix/Night. Good points. Though I don't quite agree on the idea that Qrow's semblance does not need aura. Rather emotional states cause semblances to trigger unintentionally. As we've seen from Yang, Pyrrha, Weiss and so on. I believe rather his constant negative outlook causes the random spike. And yes I do agree with you the auras should have been broken at that point. It is also just as possible that the hits came from lack of focus. Tyrian focused on Ruby. Tyrian on his elation from poisoning Qrow. In the same vein as Sienna getting stabbed and killed so easily. An aspect I admittedly hate. But does make more sense. I think rather than a full retcon. Aura does still passively protect but needs more focus to maintain the full projected aura. As in volume one Jaune tanks hits that should likely kill him after it's first unlocked. However as Cardin is beating him up. He has bruising despite still having aura. It may even be used to explain back in the white trailer how Weiss can get a scar while still having aura. Which I would also like to theorize that she beat the Arma Gigas by performing a risky attack by combining the dust in Myrtanaster for one gambit of a strike. But that doesn't have much of a basis. Just a thought.

Phoenix/Night You know I just thought of something else too... Every semblance can really apply to one of the relics in terms of how it functions. I recall it mentioned that Velvet's semblance is an intelligence type and considered rare. And as these abilities are more akin tied to as the God of darkness put it. "You may bask in the power of creation but you don't own it." More destructive semblances for example manifest from the darkness within. It could corolate to Aura color in a way too. Did you notice Jaune's aura color changed from white to yellow in volume 6? Its baseless mostly but I wonder if the color of.your aura impacts in some way the type of semblance you hold. Or even your nature. Like Leo had yellow and he was a yellow bellied coward. XP

Actually Faunus with useful traits have been shown to have semblances, e.g. Blake has ears that can pick up sounds humans can't, but also she has shadow clones, and Sun, who has a tail that can act as an arm, but also Light clones

I believe averyone can develop a Semblance, even Faunus that already have an advantage with their animal characteristics. However, I think some people could have semblances that are not useful for combat, which is why we haven't seen them. I don't have a good example at the moment, but if it's something more passive or anything like that, we could simply not see it.

Key example of "not useful for combat" is that Yatsuhashi can slowly erase memories. He will never use this in fast-paced combat, not only because of how it works, but because he loathes his own ability. This leaves him being a big guy with a big sword, no projectiles or Dust, and presumably a ton of Aura.

THEORIE! So I rewatched watched the figth in V7:E6 slowed down (0.5x) and you can see that Tyrion slashes at Fiona Thyme with his right hand (the one shroudedin purple aura), not his weapon, somehow breaking her aura shield. Then once it was broken he slashes again with his left hand (this time with his weapon open) wich is what cuts her. Which leads me to believe that Tyrion semblance actually alows him to break others aura shield by manifesting his semblence/aura to his hand(s).

Using this season as context I think his semblance isnt poison but something that withers the aura of others. Whenever he fights, his purple aura manifests over the weapons he wields. Whoever he hits while his aura is active appears to weaken.

I think Tyrian dose have a semblance he can make claws that cut throw peoples protective auras so he can sting and slash them with know protection you see it for just a second in the latest episode.

7:50 Ok, that looks pretty creepy. Like, I´m even more scared of that picture of Nora than I was of the Apathy. Well, we actually did see Tyrian´s semblance in the fight back in V4. When he kicked Ruby in the stomach, her aura cracked a little. It didn´t break, but it seemed like his attack drained her aura more than it should have, or at least had some other effect. Later, during his attack on the election in V7, it was made very clear that his semblance seems to allow him to greatly deplete a target´s aura, like when a single strike was enough to not only completely break Fiona´s aura, but also wound her at the same time. In a similar fashion, I have a headcanon semblance for Ilia: It lets her make an object invoke positive emotions in a target species. Basically what I think happened is that at some unknown point in the past, she had a crush on a girl and wanted to cheer her up, so she made an origami swan for her, because the girl liked origami. Ilia wanted the swan to make this girl as happy as the girl made her, her semblance kicked in and now every human looking at it feels nothing but bliss, joy and happiness. This swan is the only object she´s used her semblance on where the effect doesn´t eventually wear off, by the way. She eventually learned to have her semblance affect targets even before they can see the object, in which case they feel the subconscious urge to go towards the item´s direction, and used it to great effect to create distractions when infiltrating military bases after joining the White Fang. She just needed an object, like an eraser or a stone or something, use her semblance on it to make the object attract humans, and leave it somewhere she doesn´t need to go. Any human within reach will inadvertently find themselves staring at the object if they don´t have the mental fortitude to resist these urges, and she can get away safely. She can also add certain commands to the object, like "Protect this from Grimm", and the target species will feel the need to do so. This way she can also have people deliver a time bomb to their superior, for example, but adding these commands is very difficult for her, since she didn´t need to practice this much. Also, using her semblance on bigger objects, increasing the area of effect, or having the effect last longer all increase the drain the semblance puts on her aura. By the way, it´s not limited to humans, she can target literally any species or sub-species. The more specific she gets with targeting, the easier it is to use her semblance. Grimm are also fair game, as are plants and fungi, but the latter two don´t really feel anything, the just grow towards the object at their normal growth speed. Grimm, plants and fungi are also in a weird grey area, because in order for her to be able to use her semblance on something, it must be physical, but must not possess a soul, meaning that she can use her semblance on these three, but also have her semblance affect these three. As for people having multiple semblances, or having different semblances based on circumstance, I have had a similar idea for a while now: Basically, the theory is that almost everyone is born with 2-3 potential semblances, and whichever is first needed to save your life manifests. But that begs the question: What if someone were to practice enough to unlock the other semblance(s) they were born with? Also yes, I said almost everyone. People like Qrow, Raven, Yang and Emerald are born with only one semblance. I mean, Qrow was named after his, and I think the same holds true for Raven, so they both must´ve shown signs of their semblances pretty much immediately.

I think his semblance could be Aura awareness and perception. Also if he was a famous serial killer in mantle or something like that having eyes to gauge his victims strength would be useful. I would like to remind you Qrow's power was there but acknowledge much later. Also keep in mind these three interactions, the whole tipping point ep, Emerald and Mercury getting advice from him, and his report to Salem. Also if I had to give him a role in Salem's group it is assassin. Why I think assassin could make sense is with the Great War over I believe if this timeline fits he could have been a Child Soldier at roughly 10ish tasked with assassination missions for the faunus. Then after the Great War that sect of Assassins would have to be clean with people from their own side. They might have gone and killed everyone from that faction within their group and he might have escaped. That makes sense because he doesn't choose either side but only Salem. She filling the void that was left in him after the hypothetical timeline this could be reinforced by when he reported back to Salem about his mission we might have saw effect of brainwashing or traumatic experience of his past. Going back to his fight with Qrow at one point Ruby was sniping him but even without looking he was able to block the shots with his tail if he has aura awareness then he might have been able to calculate the shots. They imbue their Aura into their weapons if he was able to make the outline of the sniper rifle he might have been able to track the bullet path without even looking in that direction.

I reckon Tyrian's semblance of he has one is something to do with his eyes changing colours. Maybe when they're purple is when he's activating his poison and the other colours are when he is using more ninja abilities or something. There are two types of scorpions - the ones that rely on their tails for killing prey and the ones that rely on their claws for tearing them apart. The tail ones tend to have larger tails. Maybe he is switching modes between ninja arm stuff to give himself a speed boost and readying his tail and charging it with poison. So that'd be meant to signal to us he's about to switch tactics and try to poison someone.

I found this out by watching an art talk video by the Futur. But Tyrian is named after a purple Julius Caesar made by crushing thousands of beetles, to celebrate the birth of his son. Which explains his purple eye shift. I think, since faunes are the combination of both brothers gifts, that they do have a semblance. But due to being part animal they do have natural talents like Illya being able to camo. :)

Ah this just showed up in my feed but came out before the episode where Tyrian did something that might be a semblance when attacking Robyn hills sheep Faunus friend. I think the episode was called a night off ruby goes to the “victory party” for Robyn hill and we see it. Semblance of something else. Did seems kind of like using poison. Also we’ve learned aura regeneration can be trained and happen very quickly in a recent episode possibly the same one. Maybe that requires the aura not to be broken and a totally broken aura takes longer to regenerate than a partially depleted one though.

If a semblance is unable to be used if aura is broken, could it be possible that if Qrow has his aura broken he is not bad luck? and would that be why Raven retreats so readily? is she afraid she would be unable to win or even escape? that would explain a bit about Neo as well. btw, I'm just putting this out there, weapons can not have semblances, however, they can connect with and improve them, sight Velvet. I think Adam's semblance was actually time dilation because it was NOT his sword. If his semblance made him able to embower the sword then he could just pull a Shirou Emiya (from Fate) and turn a stick or his sword's sheath into his weapon. His weapon has the ability to absorb the force that hits it *just right* and when wielded properly it can strike back with power equal to the sum of it's absorbed forces. In order to wield such a device, however, you would need to be three things, godlike reaction time, speed beyond belief, and the physical build to hold unwavering to the force applied upon the sword and upon yourself. If you could slow time around you for a short burst, however, it would change things. If you slowed time itself, you would be able to more leisurely prepare your sword, you would have more time to react, adjust your grip, and to then return the strike. The big thing this would change, however, is purely based on mathematics, remember how I suggested you would need the physical prowess to withstand the force the sword absorbed? Well considering the fact that force is mass multiplied by acceleration, the force will become relative to mass AND acceleration equally. If we focus on just Acceleration, which is equivalent to the change in velocity over the change in time (Δv/Δt) then we come to a complex riddle with a simple answer. The question is, what would occur if one were to solve for the change in velocity (Δv), but cut the time measured in half? The answer is much more simple than you might think. You would cut the force in half. That means you could absorb inhuman amounts of force, even deflect bullets without any recoil on your end. These are feats Adam has done, and the one thing he did with all of them, is immediately sheath the sword. If he slows time as he begins his assault, then he very well might just start it back up upon returning the sword to his sheath. In doing so, his sword would not receive the full force of his nullifications (the attacks he has stopped) until it is securely holstered. This would also prevent it from becoming too much for Adam to withstand without sacrificing it's power and would be a way for Adam to keep his semblance in check as there may be a downside to it if it is overused. My evidence for this belief is in three clear examples. 1. Blake's character trailer, in which Adam not only seamlessly soaks up a beam from a spider-droid, only sheathing his sword as it takes the last bits of the shot. He waits until the droid is airborne and about to strike him to then retaliate with a strike to the spider-droid with enough charged force to cause it not only to split cleanly in two but to dematerialize on the spot like one of the creatures of Grimm. Before taking in the droid's shot we see him begin to glow red for a second as he grabs his sword's hilt. We then watch Blake "buy him time" as she slashes, stabs, and shoots at the droid yet can't seem to dent or scratch it. Upon Blake's retreat Adam is no longer glowing, but when the spider-droid jumps up, so as to smash Adam like a bug, he grabs his sword and burns brighter than before as he expends the full charge of his sword to obliterate it so suddenly that the singular motion sent ripples from that cut through every crate on that train car. He has no need to sheath it afterward as he is not holding a potentially unstable charge anymore. -(side note, I rewatched Blake's first trailer just to be sure, and it certainly seemed like he was about to do so the first time the droid shot, but he must have underestimated the speed of the projectile as it still knocked he and blake out of the train, also, his sheath is a pump shotgun... I had no idea until now.) 2. His infamous volume 3 introduction. He lands a precise cut at Yang's joint so as to cleanly remove her forearm. Doing this would take precision, placement, and a smooth cut, all of which become more difficult when the target is in Saiyan mode charging at you. Hence, Adam must have had time to line up and to slice so cleanly that it did not hinder her aura's ability to heal her on the spot, meaning it was a relatively minor wound. Humans naturally start to heal clean cuts, and this is likely an exception, but so is yang so... As he did this cut, time essentially paused and his glow made the world go into high contrast mode. 3. His trails. Adam leaves behind trails, shadows of his own body that only diminish once Adam completes his action. This is similar to Blake's semblance if she does not use dust. The difference is, he does this without trying, when he is not doing precise strikes or defending, he leaves traces of his actions, as if he splits himself through time to go faster, like Kiritsugu Emiya (also from Fate). Anyway, that's just my theory, sorry for the rant.

I'd say Blake's main faunus trait would be her cat eyes. She can see in the dark which is incredibly useful and I think has been displayed more than her ears. As in she seems to have just as good hearing as most but way better vision.

My personal theory about how Semblances manifest is that they are either manifested in one of two ways; through controlled training, or sudden shock. With the former, this would let the Semblance more closely align with the users' general characteristics, since it simply comes out at what is most likely to be their most natural state of mind during these conditions. In the latter, the Semblance reacts to a sudden shock and the person's desperate attempts at dealing with said shock. For instance, Nora's lightning strike would likely have reacted to her wish to survive and general mindset by infusing the energy into her muscles instead, while Jaune's Semblance manifested due to his intense desire to save Weiss by letting him give his aura to her.

Honestly I think Tyrian’s semblance is “aura poisoning” as displayed in volume 7. Another attribute of him having his scorpion tail is passive weapon detection, as demonstrated in his fight(s) with Qrow, allowing him to subconsciously avoid bullets or know exactly how to dodge a sword sweep.

Actually maybe its something like Hydroportation( the user can teleport via water) Tyrian is based off the Scorpion and the frog fable in which they sink into the water. Others unlock their semblances via survival instinct( Do or die), what if Tyrian when he was younger found himself nearly drowning, semblance kicks in and he finds himself transported through water to safety. Having a pool of water like that in or near Salem's lair which might explain his fast means of travel in volume 4 plus getting past the border.

After some contemplation I think I have a theory of my own of how semblances are unlocked and specifically what semblances are unlocked. You present in this video the examples of how characters like Nora unlocked their semblance based on a sort of desperation to live, in Nora's case she was struck by lightning which in all likelihood would have killed her otherwise. What if, and its a big if, semblances were not unlocked through a need but rather a want. A desire. At this point in the series we know what Tyrian's semblance is, it chews/burns away aura this way his stabbing poison weapon can end fights much faster. But what if that is exactly why he got that semblance? If it wasn't for having to break his foes aura's he could've kept the end of his tail, or even won the conflict entirely. A desire to live like Nora's only supports this, for what is a greater desire than to protect one's own life? Perhaps protecting others, like Ren?

This is MY Theory for Tyrians Aura/Semblance I like to call it "Rush" this is somewhat similar to a sugar rush. With Tyrian's attitude having the urge to hurt others and overall just kill them I believe Tyrian's semblance allows him to move in very fasts speeds similar to Harriet's semblance in the Ace Ops team. And the way he activates his Aura I have 2 ways on how he can activate it 1 is where is in a way where he receives a massive amount of joy from killing an individual within the group of Ruby similar to how he killed the Grim where he failed his mission, but in the other way is where he thinks that his opponent is almost dead or his/her Aura is almost broken and when he has or knows this thought that is where he receives a massive amount of joy and makes a massive attack essentially killing his opponent. But that's just my thought I hope this makes sense for Tyrians character and help to make a final decision for Tyrians final and official semblance

I know that Tyrian's semblance is like... If he touched you with his Semblance on, he can take out that aura out where he touched you. Like how you can see Ruby's aura being taken away because of his Semblance. That's why when you see Ren in that episode, he is dodging his hands because it is literally dangerous. I think everyone can get a semblance. However, as said in the series. Semblances unlock trough various means. Usualy some sort of trauma or negative event. I think Most faunus do not HAVE semblances because they rely on their animal traits to get trough hardships. Something humans cannot do and thus humans more often end up in worse situations and traumatic experiences. And thus more humans have their aura's and semblances unlocked then faunus, as faunus don't nescesarily NEED it. I think the fact people like Adam, Blake and Sun HAVE a semblance means they despite their animal traits, have gone trough some very traumatic events that forced their aura to unlock and thus give them a semblance.

Pretty interesting though... Two things: (1) I doubt that Ilia, trifa, and Yuma don't have their semblances. The world of remnant isn't exactly safe and relating on just your weapon or special traits is just as damaging as relying on your semblance. (Also bats are mammals too dude.) So I think we just haven't seen these yet. & (2) a lot of the semblances that we do know about are an extension of the owner's character and personality with the occasional exceptions.

I've always believed that the unique faunas abilities were simply tied to their animalistic traits instead of their semblances, because of what Adam said early on in volume 5 "We are better than humans. We have everything humans have and more." From this I interpreted it as faunas have aura and the potential for a semblance just like humans, and they have their animalistic traits grant them extra abilities. There's more to Blake and Sun than just hearing and an extra limb, Blake also has good night vision and Sun has excellent balance thanks to his tail according to RWBY Chibi. And so I think Tyrian's poison might not be his semblance. If I were to take a guess of what it might be, I would say a tracking semblance because he is very good at hunting people down. This discussion reminds me a lot of Bleach. Discussing everyone's semblance is a lot like discussion a character's Shikai and Bankai. Although from most discussions I have seen not many seem to bring up the possibility that a character does have a semblance but choses not to use it due to it either being a hindrance or inconvenient for the particular situation. In Bleach there are a bunch of characters who have not use their Bankai at moments we thought were opportuned, and later on we learn that it's because it's either a dangerous ability or an inconvenient ability or just not the right ability for the moment. I think it could have been the same with Qrow; if he could turn off his semblance then he most likely wouldn't use it except in rare instances. And so I believe most characters who's semblances we have not seen yet have either not been awakened or were not useful for the situations we have seen them in.

I still think the eye color change still has to do with his semblance. When the aura shows on Qrow and Tyrian in their fight, it flickers which may show that the aura is close to being depleted but not actually depleted yet. Also in the fight, even after the aura flickers Qrows semblance is still active so we know for sure he still has some aura left. I think his semblance is the ability to "breakthrough" aura. I'm using the word breakthrough because even though he is able to do physical damage the people he's fighting against, the aura doesn't seem completely depleted, like in the newest episode when he hits the goat girl and around a minute after she was taken down she's alright. This would be very useful to work his poison because this way he doesn't have to constantly fight and deplete others of aura to scratch and inject poison into other people. If this is his semblance it wouldn't affect the Grimm since they have no aura which could explain why he wasn't able to just one shot the beowolf, as he does with other people (also considering the beowolf is typically a weaker Grimm) At the very least if his semblance isn't the ability to just breakthrough others aura, his eye color change is still most likely related to his semblance

He's a prolific serial killer who likes stalking people and sneaking up on them, so maybe it's something to do with detecting his prey people or being particularly good at avoiding detection by law enforcement. But he could just have no semblance and never have worked on one, maybe he's just obsessed with killing the way Roman is obsessed with surviving and tricking his way out of situations. So the way Roman relied predominantly on his brains maybe Tyrian just gets caught up in the fight and enjoys fighting like a madman when he IS cornered, like crashing the plane when he was arrested in Atlas, and somehow that makes him unpredictable and he's not needed a semblance due to tending to wait till he has the advantage then ambush vulnerable prey, and also fighting really dirty.

What if we've already seen Tyrian's semblance? Back when Tyrian reported his defeat to Salem and she expressed her disappointment, he was emotionally distraught. When a Grimm went to attack him he struck it down, going from sadness to to madness. I think madness or insanity might be his semblance. It would allow him to do things that a sane person can't which could increase his survivability in dire situations. On a different note, I'd like to bring up semblances that work through dust, like Adam's or Raven's. Both Adam and Raven have swords with red blades that they can channel their semblance through. Adam absorbing damage into the blade then dishing it out, Raven opening her portals with the blade. We already know that dust can interact with semblances, perfect example being Blake multiple times throughout the series, but this red dust seems to be specifically for channeling semblances, and based off of Adam's reaction when his sword broke, some semblances might not work without it. I'm also just assuming it's dust and not some special metal we've never heard about.

I think that Ravens sword is just fire dust, but Adams blade is a good point.

An overlooked theory that I personally believe is that Tyrion’s semblance is not related to combat at all but rather his ability to track down his targets.

Tyrian's semblance could be the lower his aura is the stronger and crazy he is and slowly loses his mind

I think a persons semblance is governed mostly by who they are, but needs a person to have a strong show of who they are in order for the semblance to activate and the situation in which the semblance activates may have an effect on it. For example Jaune is a kind and caring person so when Weiss was going to die his kind and caring personality was pushed into overdrive causing his semblance to activate allowing him to heal her. However, if Jaune was to activate his semblance out of a strong desire to prevent his friends from getting hurt then his semblance may have been a barrier semblance providing a layer of protection far greater than a defensive aura rather than a healing semblance.

Basically, a semblance must adhere to a persons personality so a kind and caring person like Jaune is never going to have a semblance that allows him to make explosions or allow him to move at high speeds, but it would allow him to have a semblance that can protect or heal others

In simpler terms a persons personality limits what their semblance can be, and the situation it activates in determines the rest along with some random chance.
