Extra thoughts: Too long of a board, and it can make this trick very difficult (or impossible). But all in all, its a pretty simple one once you have both regular and switch toeside carves real clean, and are use to doing backside 180 rotations.

Nice vid Ryan, especially with the slo-mo. A duh-question: Do you consciously spot your landings on these noserolls? A toeside-toeside noseroll would work fine up till 180, and any further would probably mean catching an edge. You always put them down spot on, though :)
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 6 жыл бұрын
In my mind u just kinda watch the snow underneath me and always put the toeside edge down firmly for at least a split second so I won't over-rotate onto the heels. For when I do the 360 version I purposely just rotate it more with my arms and then transfer over to the heelside edge and always try to firmly land in that for at least a split second. Weird things can happen more with that landing so I try to really use muscles and 'absorb' my 'landing' of it as gentle as possible for a nice clean ride-away. Happy shreddin and Qapla'!

So if I understand correctly, if you are on a toe edge when you start the nose roll, you land on that same edge.

Hi Ryan, it's been a while since you've started using a helmet. How has been your experience with it so far? Do you ever think "I should have done it before! " or "Damn! What a pain in the a..!"? Qa'pla!
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah! I definitely want to make an updated video! Quick answer tho, I'm loving it as it fits good and doesn't pinch my head like previous helmets I've had (which I'd end up with a headache from). And yup, I should have looked into some decent fitting helmets long ago. The only think I actually miss, is wearing a piece of art on my head with those Sennheiser headphones and the beautiful audio they produce. I have the outdoor tech brand in my helmet, and they work fine, they just aren't the same tho. Especially recently when seeing that the tree branch went through Chad's helmet! OMG! Cuz that guy seriously rips hard! And I'd never have expected that! Also just heard one of my other friends who is one of my favorite alpine snowboarders... made a bad turn, and hit a lift tower, shattering his elbow into 19 pieces! :( Ugh. So yeah, shit can happen. I don't wear it to feel more confident by any means, but damn, if something ever did!

Ryan have you tried to make it last longer? I mean the beginner noseroll quickly and nervously. You seem to do it slow and smooth. But can you last like 3-5 seconds on your nose? I know its just a matter of balance cause you already have the technique

I can do front side 360 nose rolls so easily and they took me almost no time to learn. For backside nose rolls, even though i actually managed pulled one off before i ever learned the frontside ones, they are so inconsistent and awkward feeling everytime. I always get off axis, catch, and land on my ass. What's weird too is i can do backside ollie 360's very consistently, so I am use to turning my head in that direction. For some reason this particular trick always throws me off.
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 6 жыл бұрын
Damn, without seeing video of whats happening its hard to give any specific tips, but maybe just doing that skid-180 between carves would help clean up the ride-in / ride-out... and then just gradually pressing more and more into the nose on it. Best luck and happy shreddin!

Ryan Knapton Hey Ryan, think this video helped me spot why i was rotating too far and ended up on the wrong edge - its the counter rotation you make with your upper body half way through. Might be something to add/make a video describing what you’re doing with your upper body and the landing toe side and looking back up the hill.

Just before you're taking even pressure from both feet to your front foot I noticed you swinging your right arm back and your left arm forward a bit (prewind) are you swinging your left arm back purposely to get that rotation ?or is it the momentum going to the carve slightly uphill that swings you around?

Ryan. so we don't need to step up on back leg or shifting weight to front leg(like Nollie) to make back leg lifting higher ? Just gradually transfer weight 100% to front leg ? But how to lift back leg higher? Thank you

How often do you need to replace your toe strap due to drag? Or is this not a problem with wide boards
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 6 жыл бұрын
I break some every here and there... I think it's more of me just stepping on em and stuff more than from it digging into the snow though. I remember in older narrower boards the front of the straps would show wear from hitting into the snow... These probably do some, but obviously less just cuz of the width.

Yeah, off the tail for sure works too. I prefer those on little rolls on the hill as they take more force than these, but yup! Exact same rotation and edging.

The slomo is good but I’m really bummed you didn’t include the landing in the slomo. That’s where I’m struggling the most.
@rockliftingcyclrower
@rockliftingcyclrower 6 жыл бұрын
I've noticed he has a specific landing position and it took me awhile to feel, but i was able to get it and now these feel awesome. Watch his 360s, 180s, and noserolls and he has a similar landing position in all of them. his back knee is flexed away from board nearly touching snow and front leg is torqued forward almost pointing downhill. The actual position of his knees varies between any given trick, but it seems this is the position of stability, at least when on toeside. I got a feel for it by pointing board straight down hill on slight toeside, and squatting down as far as i could while maintaining a forward facing silent upper body. Hope this helps.

@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 5 жыл бұрын
I don't do any. I've heard on the east coast more of the alpine riders will do like a 88 or even 87 side edge for extra grip. For CO general conditions 90 works for me, and I haven't played around with any base bevel.

Hey is it harder to do nose rolls or ride switch with directional boards and a kind of weird nose and tail, because i seem to have problems with both of those things. Here is my snowboard yellowgentian.com/snowboard-reviews/all-mountain/voelkl-afc . Would to get some help from you guys. Love ur videos btw Ryan
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 6 жыл бұрын
The curves around the nose and tail look fine on that board. the points are more right at the very end of nose, so its unlikely it would affect it. For me on directional boards (the burton custom and custom x for years), I could do them really well on both those (and other similar directional boards), but it always bugged me a bit that it felt different when doing on the nose vs. the tail, so for what I do I think it's optimal to be on a twin and have a centered stance, but by no means is it required! Thanks for the props on the vids, and happy shreddin!
