Just seeded my back yard 10 days ago with Ryan Knorr Elite Rygrass from bare soil. It is insane how much it has come up since then. Most areas are already at 2 inches. It actually looks like I have a full blown yard again. (Still not ready to be mowed or walked on just yet) I am super impressed and pleased with it. If you are considering getting some, do it.

Its the ideal time too. Have not had the success you did, but I put some premium fescue and rye down, covered with peet moss and water twice a day, got 95% cover.

I overseeded also in WI two different times due to large acreage and can’t get a break with this heat. Right when I thought temps dropping back to 80s and no rain in sight…..I even watered each section and not very good results so far, hoping more will pop when temps drop and get some rain.

I hear ya about the rain. It has been a rough year for the Northern Plains. It was a rough summer here in North Dakota considering we got new sod on our lawn. Almost impossible to keep it wet without breaking the bank. I think it rained about once a month over the summer here. Hopefully next year will be better and hoping for a decent amount of snow to get us out of this drought!

I did SS9000 plus kbg mixed in and got good germination. Still spoon feeding using your equalizORR and have tried Turfplex also. Now have to figure out the final fertilizer to apply closer to end of season. Keep sharing your progress!

For those using Tenacity during seeding, they recommend you do not use it when hard/fine/red fescues exceed a certain percentage of the mix, I think it was 20% total. In my case, the wild violets took over before the grass could even establish itself (yard was glypho killed prior). Hoping for better luck next year.

We are trying to figure out our weed situation before we use the seed we bought from ya. We pulled up all the weeds in an area, dethatched and planted some of the grass we already had as a test. The weeds seem to take over with lightning speed. It is wildly frustrating. Got some creeping stuff that seems to grow underground and sprout up in places. It is so prolific that it even grew over the manhole cover beside our lawn like it was nothing. But I figure if I'm gonna waste product it'll be the less expensive stuff hah.

I think you will have good success with your raking the seed into the soil and rolling it. So much easier and cheaper than the peat moss method. Less of it will wash away if it rains also. Later in the season you seed the less chance of big storms and pouring rains also. I see people seed too early and get the big washout. Even Pete (GCI) does it. He seeds too early and ends up seeding 2 or 3 times because of washouts. You would think he would know better.

Awesome progress. Consider milkweed in with your wildflowers for the monarchs. About 40% of them that take the nearly 3000 mile journey to Mexico to winter over comes from Iowa alone. The numbers are dwindling quickly, sad to say. If you get a chance, watch “The Jungle Diaries, by Phil Torres” to hear the sound of millions of migrating monarchs. It’s a very visually and emotionally and rarest sound on earth!
