Denver, Iowa(10miles north of Cedar Falls). I live in a residential wooded area...and have dozens of trees....so I have piles of leaves everywhere and will continue to fall for another month. I try to get most of the leaves off the yard...but it's multiple runs with a larger riding John Deere mower, which just pounds down the grass. I buy the 93 octane gas for my Toro mower. Up to 10% ethanol around here, can't get ethanol free within 70 miles or so. Its a mower i got from the curb, runs strong, even leaving the gas in all winter. Hoping the few weeds i have die off with freeze expected this week, else i'll spray this weekend. Insulate above and the walls of your attached garages if you can, keeps mine plenty above freezing. No issues with my liquids freezing.

Right on. Use stabilizer with ethanol or non ethanol gas. (Modern gas doesn't last long). Raking or removing leaves should be a thing of the past. Raise the mower deck and blow the leaves inward and just chop them up. Do it a few times as the leaves fall. Chopped leaves will quickly break down and disappear.

I left some bird seed in a plastic Craftsman bin in my shed. The buggers chewed right through the hard plastic and left bits of red plastic everywhere. Hello, I live in middle part of Europe(Poland) and I need some help with applying winterizer. I did full fall lawn renovation and it went great. Also I planted some new grass(Tall fescue and Perennial ryegrass) in the back of my house but its growing really slow it's got like almost 2inches long. In the end of September I put 10-8-12(N-P-K) fertilizer when I was doing renovation. Now we got almost end of October and we are starting to have temp 11-12 C(51-32 F) in the day and 0-3 C(32-37 F) in the night. My question is should I apply some winterizer as we will be getting rain in the couple of weeks? Should I use 10-8-12(N-P-K) or 12-23(P-K) with no nitrogen?

Hey, here is my issue that I don't know what to do about... We just bought a house and the yard is utter TRASH! I am not joking when I say it's 80% weeds! Dandelion and clover everywhere. Everything I saw said that I need to start with weeds since they are so prevalent! I applied the Scotts Fall weed and feed granules. It didn't do anything to the weeds. Even 2 weeks later they didn't care, still showing signs of growing. So I purchased a sprayer and broad sprayed the whole yard with Ortho WeedClear. They are finally dying off now.... Unfortunately way late in the season. I read that you should overseed in fall though. I am pretty sure it's too late for that though here in Northeast Ohio! We have gotten really cold temps and I definitely can't water it the way the seed needs it. So is it ok to overseed in spring? When should I do that? I also didn't mention that I did also dethatch. Using a yard sweeper to pick it up I had 5 FULL heaping loads in the sweeper on just half acre!! So what's my next action??

Use a pesticide that Kills Grubs (read the directions closely because some of them say "Kills Grubs" and in the notes it says in gardens not in lawns). Next spring from June 1st to July 15th apply a Grub Ex style grub control (Scotts or Bayer). I plan to reach out to my local Site One for a granular that kills and prevents grubs for next year. I lost most of my front yard this fall too. I also plan to have Japanese Beetle traps next year to keep the grubs to a minimum.

My experience with KBG/Tttf mix in winter is without a heavy fall N application (and even another 1lbn/1000 after the turf stops growing) it yellows aggressively When I do apply plenty of n in the fall and that final full dormant app it stays green 90% of the winter and greens up much quicker

How often should I bag my clippings? I bag with every mow but I see almost no organic material on my lawn so I feel like this is hurting it
@markchase81283 жыл бұрын
I mulch every time I mow, only bag when doing renovation work for dethatch, or after a very wet mow to go back and pick up some of the clumps. More an issue of needing to mow more often so the grass is mulched very fine. The clumps will hurt the lawn a little. Mulching adds ~ 1#/1k sq ft of nitrogen to the lawn. If you are fertilizing properly, then maybe bagging every time is ok. I have averaged 6 days per mow this season, not enough, especially during the heavy growth months. I'd consider bagging once maybe every 4th or 5th mow at most. Leaves get mulched, but I'll bag at the end of the season to get debris off prior to winter.
