I think the only issue with stopping the watering during summer is that if you have a thin lawn, you run the risk of the soil drying out and becoming very compact. After 3 years of working on improving my lawn, I still have some "original areas" of the lawn that have slightly compact soil and shallower roots. Even after years of aeration and liquid aeration, they still need a lot of work.

Went on vacation and returned to burned out areas of my front and back KBG lawn in Illinois. Going to try to get the burned areas going again. Pretty confident it is not fungus or insect damage due to other applications I put down in June. Have been using Tnex PGR which has kept the length in check but not 100% sold yet on PGR. Would love more Midwest thoughts on the pgr program to try. Cheers!

Thanks for the video, Ryan. Had a quick question about whether or not you've come across irrigation systems with the option of an additional system installed for mosquito treatments. Southern Indiana here so it's a great idea, but I didn't know if you had the same type installed or have come across them, and if so, if they're able to apply fertilizer, etc. as well. Thanks again!

Everyone always says KBG looks better...but the Tall Fescue always looks better to me. Not to mention it's way more durable and holds up much better in the summer. You can water the KBG but it's going to hit your wallet (or well) much harder. I'd need to live way up north to even consider KBG
@ryanknorrlawncare2 жыл бұрын
I personally will never really like tall fescue in terms of leaf appearance. Just doesn't do it for me.
@vengeance7x66612 жыл бұрын
@@ryanknorrlawncare I can understand. I'm not going to argue that it has the best appearance, but I don't think the difference is enough to justify how much more it takes to keep it looking good year round. I live in Indy and KBG checks out way early in the season and requires a ton of water in comparison to keep it going. I think really dense Fescue can look better at a taller height, but I get that's not really your thing. I also would go with Perennial Rye though if I was wanting the best look

i have a granular fertilizer with 16-5-5 and 4% iron that I love and use. We don't have these 40-0-0 fertilizers that you guys in the US have. So I assume 16% N is considered ''low''. Our summer temps are usually 20-25c, so not super hot either. Should I keep using my 16-5-5 during sommer too every 4-6 weeks?
@ryanknorrlawncare2 жыл бұрын
The number on the bag doesn't necessarily mean it's low nitrogen because it depends how many pounds you're putting on the ground of that product. I don't use granular mid summer because I want something I can better control in terms of how quickly it works on the lawn and I can easily apply .1 pounds of N which is very difficult with granular.

Have you leveled your backyard in the past with either sand or compost,soil mix? Ive seen the videos on the low cut turf but was curious if you ever have leveled the backyard with the higher cut turf (may have missed if you did a video on this, apologize if so). Recently had irrigation installed and have ripped up an old patio etc that has left some unevenness on the yard that I wanted to level. Current HOC is 3 1/4 inches on a mixture of Kentucky Blue & Fescue. Was going to cut down to around 2inch and level with sand,compost, soil mix and am thinking that is correct and similar to low cut turf. But wanted to run it by the guru! any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for all you do for the lawn community and knowledge you provide us all!

No leveling on the backyard. It will be somewhat difficult to get any soil to spread even at 2 inches so if you can find a topdresser anywhere that may work better

Hey Ryan. I have Jonathan Green Black Beauty Ultra that I overseeded last fall. It is a bit stressed right now because of the heat. But I have a medium sized patch that I seeded when I filled in a large depression in the front. I used Perennial Rye and it looks fabulous in comparison. Wondering if I can aerate and overseed the rest of the yard with the Rye this fall and have any success in converting it to the Rye. If so, do you sell any elite Perennial Rye cultivars that you could recommend? Thank you.
