Miku looks SO nervous, it's so unusual in her because we are used to see Miku as the "general pigeon" in charge of the platoon. So seeing her so vulnerable, so worried, so... human, it's refreshing and gave you more appreciation for all of her hard work Love Sayonakidori, and love Miku Kobato!

This can’t be an easy song to sing. Let alone play rhythm at the same time. She has to sing a fast vocal line in a fairly high key then immediately belt a long high note. I mean… it would be tough for Saiki to do. I really respect how Miku keeps challenging herself to get better. This song is really good.

For me, the first time I listened to Unseen World, "Sayonakidori" was a breath of fresh air after the craziness of "I still seek revenge." and "H.G.K.". I loved this song instantly and I still think it's the best "Miku song". I waited so impatiently for the song on BAND-MAID's 2021/02/11 livestream. You can see that Miku was very stressed, her singing was far from perfect, she made a few mistakes on guitar. I knew she would do that rhythmic solo and I was so happy to see her enjoying herself at that specific moment. I was encouraging her behind my screen like she was a novice or like she was my little sister. I mean, everyone of us does it all the time, right? She even mentioned it in an interview. Despite the fact that she's a professional musician and that she plays guitar for 8 years now, we keep encouraging her on stage because she keeps pushing herself forward while she could have just done another "Time" or "Big Dad". That's how you become better, you progress as a musician and as a person. Miku applies a lot of the lyrics she writes for BAND-MAID (or cluppo) in her daily life. That's why they're so meaningful to us. Thank you Ryan :)

It is by far her best song she sings. A masterpiece. Kanami knows what she can do, and composed so she could shine while relating the emotion of the tune with her Zemaitis. Hopefully it is played often on the tour.

I was 18 when Hendrix came out, 20 when Led Zep hit and 22 for Black Sabbath. Late 60s early 70s were heady days for rock and I loved seeing the new bands come out. Band-Maid has brought that feeling back for this old guy. Thank you Ryan for reviewing this version. I've seen it* quite a few times because I bought the DVD of the concert *which I see from comments is the 2nd time she performed it. Too old now to be running around to live concerts but with a large screen and good sound system the DVDs/bluRay will do fine.

I was three when I liked Donovan, Mamas and Papas, Love, eight when Tapestry came out. You mentioned heavy bands, but that era had so much to offer. I’m not trying to downplay the ones you referenced. I merely pointing out that era had to have been the most amazing time for music. As the 70s progressed it was like the rocketship was coming down to earth but it was still way up there. The Talking Heads, the B-52’s, The Cars, Van Halen, The Pretenders, and the Punk Rock stuff, there was much to appreciate. But as the eighties got going the decline was becoming almost overt.

All the others also working really hard, but they also have a nature to it, so to speak and they all learned their instrument pretty early in their lives! Hey please don't forget Saiki. Even though she doesn't play instrument on stage, she probably works a lot harder than what people think. Even though Saiki only recently started to practice piano and guitar, it doesn't mean she has no talent. Even though all she did before joining bandmaid was backing singer/dancer, and people sometimes forget about her, Saiki does contribute to the lyrics, but often don't get the credit for it...and she's surrounded by people playing instruments around her including Miku. I can't help but feeling a bit protective of Saiki.

@@johnbateman3432 I disagree. I like the electric version because it is a very emotional song imo. First verse, something dragging Miku down, especially the heavy instrumental parts between each of her lines, and between the verse and chorus. 2nd verse, when Miku sings the 2nd line "doko made mo..." almost aggressively/shoutingly, after the quiet 1st line, felt like her deciding to struggle and fight back after holding back at first. Miku's solo felt like overcoming after a hard struggle. Her final chorus, high note, and Kanami's ending solo felt like triumph, and moving on. At least, that's how I feel about the song anyway. The acoustic version lacks the emotional punch for me.

its such a great song.. and for a first time live a great effort and keeping in mind Miku im pretty sure didnt play guitar for this on the album she woulda been nervous as hell doing it live. a song she pushed Kanami to change numerous times that made it a harder to perform song as well as Kanami adding in a rythum solo. it was by far the biggest song muscially and vocaly she has likely ever performed ..the pidgeon stumbled a couple times during it but didnt fall once

One of my favourite Band-Maid songs. As you say there's so much going on and the outro (which Miku asked for because she wanted a bigger climax to the song) is perfection. It was cool to see your surprise at Miku playing the solo. It's funny that it's so basic, but a lot of their solos are simpler than what they play during the verses. Miku has been playing much more difficult stuff for years now, as you can see in e.g. Vlad's fancams. I can't wait to see her perform the song again and hear the cheers when she's soloing and when she finally hits that last vocal note. The way they joked with her during the Christmas acoustic about not being able to do it without going into falsetto was telling; it's clear they all want to push each other and raise their collective level.

I heard this the first time and you can hear the difference to the studio version absolutely clear. But damned, my total respect that she tried to hit this high tones and mastered it good for a live version. Miku is absolutely underrated in this band, mostly the bass and the guitar and Sakis voice or Akanes drums are metioned, but very rarely Miku. in fact she is the driving personality in this band and without the harmonies for Saki and the rhythm for Kanami ( who could then concentrate on her anwsome guitar-playing ), the band would not be the same. She is my favourite person in the band, not to mention she is the sweetest one.

It's hard and you can tell... that's how it's supposed to be, you just do it and you do it not because it's easy but because it's hard (I've heard this before...). I remember when I was watching this live I was rooting so much for Miku to pull this off, specially on reaching that evil high note. Miku is a force of nature - she had a dream of having a rock'n roll band and made it come true... even not knowing how to play guitar and not having the best voice for it anyway - she still went for it and, aware of her own limitations when faced with this set of musicians and super-Saiki, she learns to play the guitar and it's just awesome to see her growth year after year, album after album. A few years ago I couldn't imagine I'd be so hungrily expecting a new release by my fav band again... so I feel really lucky to have that again through Band-Maid. I have no idea what's coming. I have again high expectations on Miku's developments, I have high expectations on Kanami's promise to come up with something faster than the fastest Dragon Force's song, I have high expectations on a MISA's own composition... I know it's "just" an EP and not a full album but still... can't wait!

Fil his from his KZbin channel Wings of Pegasus ,always says, "playing an instrument and singing doubles the difficulty". Miku has proven herself as a singer and guitarist. I can remember that whenever she sang Kanami always composed in such a way that Miku could stop playing to sing. These days I have noticed that the way Miku moves while performing is like a guitar player. It has now become a part of the way she stands and moves. She has a little more of a swagger. In newer BM songs I have noticed that they have started moving away from the lower voice enhancement under Miku's vocals, that became somewhat of a trait in their vocal style. When Saike and Miku sing these days Miku singing has a hell of a lot more confidence and conviction. Having said all of that. I have seen the most growth in the talents of Miku of all of her enormously talented Band Maids.

Miku has been my favorite from the start. As Ryan noted, Miku is really the only one in the band that does double duty, on both vocal & guitar instruments, for much of their songs. It can be difficult, depends on your skills, talent & practice. Note that the other gals only focus practically 99.9% of the time on one instrument on all their songs ... Misa-bass, Saiki-voice, Kanami-guitar, Akane-percs. Focusing on one instrument is not a detriment though, but rather an advantage as you know how to use that instrument better. Miku has achieved a lot of what she has wanted since she formed both her 2 bands. Unsure of the future, but hopefully bright. However, while the future of Japanese rock is an unseen world, I would like Ryan to also react to decades-past Japanese bands. Try this one for now, it's basically 1970's funk rock/jazz ... - Sadistic Mika Band - "Suki Suki Suki" from 1975 (you can find the 4-minute one from the Tanach channel). If they are the Sadistic Mika Band, then Band-Maid is the Maidistic Miku Band. I would not mind the Maids remaking/covering "Suki suki suki" into their own. There are plenty more old Japanese bands out there, as Japan has been playing westernized music since the late 19th century.

A very good effort. She can now play and sing but you can see that if she were the lead singer in Band Maid they would have never made it. Sometimes people forgot that Miku spent a few years in an idol group prior to forming BAND-MAID. Say what you want about idol groups (both Japanese and Korean), but they - more often than not - underwent rigorous training in all aspect of entertainment industry - vocals, dancing, public speaking, ethics and manners, etc. If you see how MIKU carried herself in stage and in variety shows, how she interacted with the audience, and the lyrics she wrote, etc you could see the trace of her idol training there. Also how BAND-MAID's marketing and promotion work is quite similar with idol groups'. This woman have a deep understanding about how the entertainment industry work. I will not be surprised if in the not-too-far future BAND-MAID will establish their own label - it's the logical conclusion from what I see in them.

I believe even Saiki, would struggle with this song. So glad it was not over post produced/auto tuned etc. You are refreshing reactor and Band Maid fan. When the mood takes me, I call out various musician reactors who claim to be Band Maid fans and then slip up with their gushing comments on every single Band Maid song. The response I usually get is puerile. Miku, has learned her guitar well from Kanami, over the last eight plus years. What a teacher and inspiration to have. It would be very disappointing if Miku, had not progressed this far with Kanami, as her mentor. Well done on admitting you didn't really like the song on the first of several listens but for various reasons, it has grown on you. I will never take to a couple of their songs, even though I have followed Band Maid, since 2014.

To be very fair, I can hear some pitch correction or auto tune on at least the high note on the album version. Nothing major, but I am sure they fiddled with it somewhat as it has an electronic sound (like they did with her Cluppo tracks). So it's difficult to tell how produced some of their other vocals are. Also their live blu-rays/dvd's are almost certainly cleaned up as it sounds way too crisp to be pure live. There are also regular flubs with both guitars in this one and the other online live concerts that I have seen, but those guitar lines are obviously not easy to play. I typically don't hear a lot of mistakes/differences with Misa or Akane. Nothing against that though, this is a difficult song to sing and while I don't know how cleaned up/produced their Acoustic Okyu-ji was (it was pre-recorded, so who knows), it did sound really good on that one and I don't hear auto-tune or pitch-correction on that one. I can not imagine how difficult it must be to play and sing this song in the crazy tempo the original has. As far as the song goes, I wasn't a huge fan either in the beginning, but I am typically not the biggest fan of most Miku fronted songs (I really don't like Time for example). But this one certainly has become my favourite and I actually really like it now. I also appreciate Rock In Me.

@@falconsooner She certainly has improved, I agree. Again, comparing something raw like this to a produced live is not easy because it's difficult to tell how much they changed, but I am sure she has become better at singing lead while playing the guitar. She had some small mistakes in her guitar playing in the acoustic one as well, but they were negligible and her vocals sounded great. I absolutely love her falsetto in the high part of the acoustic version of Sayokanidori. I am sure I will hear more about it when people are able to watch them live in the US. I hope it's going to be great for you all.

@@MaartenT Many thanks for your time and effort to type your thoughts. For me, so many reactors read the word 'Live' and then believe what they hear is how it sounded at the show. You are one of the fiew who get this. David Heretic, in his reations is also very astute at so called 'Live' recordings.. I have not typed this anywhere else yet but Band Maids latest 'Acoustic Set' for me was nothing more than a studio set. With the exception of Misa, who I do not expect to pick up an upright classical bass, everything is electronic. The guitars are semi acoustic, Akana's drum set looks like an advert for a microphone company. all voices are amplifies and mixed. Acoustic? Years ago, Band Maid did an early acoustic set, which was far closer to the word acoustic. Akane's drum was a box, from memory both guitars were fully acoustic. Misa bass was electric but I can't remember if Saiki, had a microphone? I am not critical of either performance but calling the recent one acoustic, is conning people, in my view.
@RyanMear
@RyanMear 2 жыл бұрын
What would qualify? Do you need one mic in the room and that's it or would that be to much technology? They are acoustic guitars with a pickup in the bridge, pretty standard. Acoustic drums that had mics, not triggers. It is mixed masterfully and multiple takes were done. They did complete rearrangements for almost all the songs for acoustic play. It was never billed as a live show. I don't feel they were trying to fool anyone.
