Good review...as a Mach E owner for 2 years....but there were some mistakes that should have been mentioned.....1) My Mach E did qualify for the $7500 tax credit....I received mine. 2) You didn't show apple/android car play....which is a huge game changer. They work seamlessly. Tesla doesnt even offer that, which is very annoying. 3) You didn't truly use Bluecruise. When your on a approved Bluecruise highway...the small screen changes to all blue background...then you can truly go hands free. The status you were in showing is Bluecruise on non approved streets or highways...which warns you every 10 seconds to keep your hands on the steering wheel just in case. 4) As far as charging network...you are correct...right now Teslas charging network is the best. But it will be a mute point in a couple of years...as Tesla is partnering with other manufacturers at making the Teslas NAC charger the standard. So all cars will be able to use the Teslas super charger network very soon. In turn this will piss off alot of Teslas owners as this will be a problem when other car manufacturers will be taking up two spots at charging stations. Reason being the short cable lengths on Tesla charging stations. As far as the Mach E it is a much higher quality made car then the Tesla...the only advantage Tesla has right now is the charging network and they are ahead the autopiloting driving. But Ford and the other car manufacturers are not far behind. To be honest...other car manufacturers are car makers...they live and breath quality...Tesla is a technology company making a car....technology first....quality second. Other than that...im glad that this was a honest review from a Tesla owner.

I don't understand the two spot thing..
@junijam
@junijam 6 ай бұрын
@slydog75 The two spots a Tesla charger station...well I will explain...Tesla charging stations were designed for Tesla cars. All Teslas have charging ports on rear driver side only. Reason why Tesla charging stations have short charging cables...makes sense for a Tesla. But if you don't have a Tesla...your charging port can be located somewhere else, example Ford EV's and when you go to try charging at a Tesla station...because of the short cable...you have to park on the next station parking just so it can reach...in turn taking up two spots at a Tesla charging station instead of one. There are a bunch of videos in regards to this...Elon hasn't come up with a resolution for this...and probably wont...especially now when he just fired everyone on the Tesla Supercharger team...not good.

The $3750 credit is not a mistake. The rules for the full credit changed, based on how much of the content is built in the USA. Since the batteries are Chinese-made, you no longer get the full credit on this car.

My wife has a Mach-E and I have a Tesla Model Y and I really like them both a lot. They both have more strengths than weaknesses and each are very good in their own right. I will say I have been incredibly impressed with the Mach e build quality, and battery performance has been very similar between the two given both are long range versions. I’m a tech-gadget guy so I love the Tesla along with its styling whereas my wife wanted something that wasn’t as big of a leap from an ICE vehicle but had strong tech features as well, and the Mach e delivered on those attributes in spades. You can’t go wrong with either really but cudos to Ford for making a great EV (just remove the Mustang please 😊)!

@@borshardsd it’s just pointing out one feature. Competition is good and while you may have had mark ups, and ford ordered through Ford does not and the price is stated on your order. None the less, there are people who have different reasons for different things. Model Y may be better, but if you live in somewhere like central PA where the nearest tesla dealership is 2 hours away, it’s horrible peace of mind. It’s bad form to just go straight to why X is better than Y(irony) when people have different needs and when one person said the Mach E was better, he got death threats. My biggest gripe with my model Y is that there essentially is no blindspot warning. It still is up to the driver to determine from the display, whether the car you see is far enough back to change lanes. Also, after 2 weeks of ownership, I still have nothing, nada, zip for parking assist. My 6 year old Nissan did a much better job of both blindspot monitoring and parking assist. It's a good thing that it is damn fun to drive.

@travelbydragonfly
@travelbydragonfly Жыл бұрын
@@miracle23us I've heard it will do that but to me that is a reaction to a possible collision, not a warning. The red vehicle thing could work if it was displayed before you start moving over. Also, it's my understanding that you have to be crossing, or very close to crossing the line. That's too late. That is going to freak out people in the blind spot. Every car I've owned with blind spot monitoring has had a flashing light in the side mirror to warn you, regardless of whether you intend to change lanes or not.

I tried it as well before deciding to buy a Model Y. Wasn’t a fan of the interior and the screens. Also Mach E and especially the GT sit lower to the ground than the Model Y which is no good for where I live. I did like her exterior of the Mach E and the ride comfort. Biggest con is they the Ford did not have a heat pump and many customers complained about a cold cabin and battery drain in a cold climate.

Since I’m not in any hurry I can plan the purchase and this review helped identify some of the little things that may annoy me just enough to make me regret an early purchase. The UI lag is a big one. I wish they could figure out how to allow a user to have a top tier smartphone plugged into the vehicle to provide some processing for the vehicle. I have heard Ford experimented with user downloaded updates from home and love the idea of less service appointments. Thank you again for a great review and I very much appreciate some of the really informative comments it inspired!

As somebody who works for Tesla, literally driving 30+ a day 5 days a week, and owns a Mach E as a daily driver, I can assure you that Tesla screens have a lot of lag time depending on the vehicle. Even sometimes with the 2023 S and X the screen lag is terrible. I personally use the knob on the screen in my Mach E FAR more than the steering wheel controls. The ability to use the knob for all of my HVAC, and Heated seats controls, etc. were a very welcome update too. I also think the materials used in the interior of the Mach E is far nicer than the Tesla as well. I use the propulsion sound as it helps prevent me from speeding. The heads up display instrument cluster can be changed so that you have a actual 3D graphic that appears around the speed. The back up camera has another view similar to the Tesla if you don’t want to use the 3-D. Over head view.

The word "refined" is not something I'd ever associate with Tesla. I couldn't wait to get rid of my 2021 Model Y because of its lack of refinement - panel gaps and misalignments (both inside and out), buggy software, multiple cameras that had to be replaced because they just stopped working, bumps, rattles, road noise, and maybe the worse damping of any car I've ever owned. I've got a Polestar 2 now and love it. The fit and finish is leagues better than the Model Y.

The Model Y was my first runner up. I felt like having more old-school manual controls in the Mach-E was a better transition to electrification than the total reliance on the screen in the Model Y. All the start up chiming was because you didn't have your seat belt on. It only chimes twice otherwise. But the point is valid; it's a chatty car. Maybe because I don't have the 'other car' comparison, but my 2023 CA Rt1 screen doesn't feel laggy.

Nice review. I test drove the Mach E about a year ago when Elon purchased Twitter and I thought I should sell my Tesla. I liked the Mach E, but ended up swallowing my pride and keeping the Tesla because it was a better car in every way. That said, driving dynamics of the Mach E are very close to the Tesla and there is little to choose between the two in this one area, save for the fact the Mach E has a huge hood that obscures what's immediately in front of you, whereas the Tesla gives an unobstructed view of the near-field. The infotainment system and state of the non-Tesla charging networks are two of the greatest differences between the two vehicles.

The ride quality being a little better in the Mach E could be the fact that the tire is a 225/55/19 where as the model Y is a 255/45/19 the difference here is almost half an inch more sidewall which helps for dampening. The 229 miles of range is a bit on the low side, especially as we know that these numbers come down in the winter, when you need to run the heater, etc. Even on the base model, I'd prefer a minimum of 250 miles and really would want 275 miles of range or more. 275 miles in the winter will be more like 190 - 200. 229 miles in the winter is going to be 155 and with the terrible charging infrastructure of non-Tesla EVs, I wouldn't feel comfortable driving this 100 miles in January.

I totally agree on the start/stop button. Instead of a start/stop button it should be an on/off toggle or rocker switch. The “start” button harkens back to the manual intermittent operation of the electric starter motor needed to get an ICE running / idling. With an ICE the needed starter motor operating time varied depending on how well the engine was tuned and the temperature and similar factors. There isn’t any analog with an EV - an EV is on or off with no manual intervention in between. If there’s any user control on an EV it should be an on/off rocker or toggle, so it’s clear and unambiguous what mode the vehicle is in.

That's my biggest gripe about a car UI's. Apple has gotten us so used to very responsive UIs in their iPads that when you start using a vehicles UI it seems so sluggish and outdated. Tesla's was the first one I used that actually had the responsiveness of an iPad. I think other companies are realizing this and will hopefully step up their game. Also, one big advantage of not having buttons everywhere is that it makes it much easier to keep clean. While the Tesla could use maybe a few more for things you would typically use when driving (like AC), many cars include buttons for everything that you rarely if ever use.

I would like to see Part II to cover BlueCruise 1.2 in depth 1) cell technology use, is modem upgradeable like Tesla?, 3) trial period, 4) cost, 5) are OTA updates supported (software & hardware)?, 6) is wifi OTA updates supported? Seems to me Tesla OTA is a decade ahead of others or I cannot find correct info. Also, cost of Ford use of Tesla charge stations. Also base model seems to have mediocre radio, manual lift gate, etc on $50K vehicle. Also, why do higher trim levels require glass roof. Roof is heavy, fragile, hot. I do not understand the demand. Just a few reasons why we preferred and bought a Mach E GT over a Tesla Model Y 1. no Android Auto or Apple car Play -- we use google maps extensively, and having the ability to seamlessly navigate from saved locations on your phone is amazing. Additionally, Google Search is the best in the industry -- as we listen to a lot of non-english music, google search is great at identifying and playing said media. (Model Y i dont think supports KZbin music just yet and does not tap into google voice search API) 2. driver display -- albeit small, i personally find it very necessary for overall drive experience. 3. Actual buttons on the steering wheel, mirrors, glovebox ... and most importantly Garage door opener (Home link) -- which i think is an add-on software for the model Y? 4. Cockpit layout -- and fit and finish of the materials and passenger side lumbar adjustment (no real need to analyze the car fit and finish upon delivery -- its a hit or miss for the Model Y (gotten better over time) 5. Ability to lease and then buy the car Rest of the drawbacks listed here is absolutely fair. 1. infotainment responsiveness seems like a cell phone from the ~2010s (but as you have physical buttons for most the things u need -- one doesnt muck around with the screen too often) 2. charging network for all non-teslas leaves much to be desired. 3. overall software experience in non Teslas are really lagging.

As a Mach-E owner, I think the biggest issue with the Mach-E is software. I think the Mach-E is beautiful and well put together, but the software needs improvement. Ford has been trying to stay true on their promise with OTA updates, but they’ve got a lot of catching up to do still. Also the start button is extremely unnecessary. I hope in the future they enable an option to not have to use it when the fob or PAAK is present.

Great review, I agree with almost all of your observations, both positive and negative. My top 3 critiques of our RWD Premium Mach-E: 1) The brake pedal does not blend regen and physical brakes very well, most people can't brake smoothly when the physical brakes grab mid-pedal. The best way to drive smooth is 1-pedal driving. 2) Non-adaptive damper ride quality is quite bumpy for rear passengers. Bad roads can make you carsick. 3) NVH (noise vibration harshness) is mediocre, perhaps in part due to the glass roof. For us, points 2 and 3 were worse with the Model Y to the point we didn't buy it. I hope future models improve in these areas since EVs are fantastic!
