Today we look at the Ryobi 18 Volt One Plus Lithium Powered Circular Saw. Is it any good? I'll put it through it's paces, torture test it and give you my impressions. You may be surprised at my conclusion. If you have one of these saw tell me in the comments your impressions, and experience with it and if there are any long term issues we should be watching for.

The Ryobi blade is okay but if you really want to see this saw shine, spend the $14 to get a Diablo blade for it. Such a difference.

Thanks for reviewing this Ryobi p506. A few observations -- my 3ah P191 HP battery (this is what comes in the popular 2-battery starter kit) is just a tad beyond flush with that mounting clearance area you pointed out. The 4ah, 6ah and 9ah batteries are of course bigger, so not sure that mounting piece (where the fan is located) was designed to prevent the battery from hitting something. In any case, I've noticed that if you adjust the depth of cut to be just beyond the thickness you're cutting into, the battery lasts longer. On a corded unit I never bothered and always left it at about the max depth as you did in this video -- so that's something folks are probably not used to thinking about. Also, in general it seems the circular and recip saws are pretty battery hungry, so it's probably best to use larger batteries.

Great info, thanks!

That's the way you're supposed to set your depth, anyway. All saws run better this way. You just want enough blade coming out to clear the sawdust out from between the teeth. A good rule of thumb is to set it so you can see the entire carbide tip on the tooth but not the bottom of the valley between the teeth. That range will give you the best, fastest, smoothest and most unburned cuts.

Thank you for your review of this tool. I hoped that you would have showed some cuts on different angles too. So that we could see what this tool can do.

I picked up the 6 piece kit in march and 2 weeks later the p505 saw started making a nasty bearing type noise.I only cut maybe 20 pieces of mdf flooring? Home depot replaced it and now the second one noisy after just 2 days of light use. Home depot now wants me to bring to them to send out. 3 week turn around. Now is when I need the saw. Not impressed with it. I'm just a diy weekend guy and didn't abuse the saw

They probably changed it since I did the review. Different version from the one I got 2 years ago. I agree, take it back and ask for a refund if you are really unhappy.

Same here. Got the P505 as part of the 6 tool kit, and it developed bearing problems after 2 days. I only ripped 2 sheets of plywood into 1 foot strips, and made maybe 2 dozen crosscuts on 2x4’s before the bearing failed. What a disappointment! It was great for sheet goods because the tool is so light.

@@SoCalKevin this makes me not want to buy the combo kit as I was almost about to order it, makes me think if one of the cheapo corded ones from harbor freight would hold up better

Great honest review. I'm a pro. I appreciated you not trying to sell the saw. I have the same saw in my Saw Stable. I like the convenience of the cordless. If I have many cuts to make I pull out the cords. A few cuts---this one. RW43

i just ordered a p505 off amazon for $45. looking for light small saw to use with homemade guide exclusively for sheet goods.

The dewalt I have at work has way more power sadly, possibly bigger battery, this one looks pretty small. But I can rip through a sheet of plywood no problem, cut 2x4s all day without the blade slowing down. I own a ryobi drill and impact so I may as well stick with them. Also way cheaper than dewalt. Excited to compare the two.

I was thinking that it would be hard to see the front of the blade because the guard goes so far down in the front, but it has a laser. I’d like to see how that works. And how long it works for. Maybe I’ll buy one on Saturday. One thing i notice on here is that is doesn’t have a brake for the blade. The dewalt I use at work stops about 1 second after you let go of the trigger which is a nice feature.

I bought it too. The saw doesn't have a laser but I don't care. I can cut a line without a laser. Awesome deal on some decent tools.
@ericsee55754 жыл бұрын
did you just attach a blade without removing the battery? that's not good...
@ModernDIYProjects4 жыл бұрын
My hands are not near the trigger, so it impossible to get hurt. Ideally you should do it without the battery installed, but while shooting a video my mind is on the video so I forgot. That is why the first part of the video I shot it without the blade installed, to prevent accidents.

The new pack comes with some different stuff you get a better light, and another larger battery not just the 1.4, but no Lazer on the saw, and the cheapo long charger instead of the 30 minute,

what type of blades (24 teeth) are recommended for this circular saw?
@ModernDIYProjects3 жыл бұрын
You can use any type of blade. It depends more on the application than the saw itself. Base the blade on what you are cutting at that time.

Mine burned out after a month. Not abusing it. In that month it cut about 10 or so 2x4's and 5 rip cuts on a piece of ½" particle board. Maybe I just got a dud, bit for the cost of sending it back to get a new one, I can just buy a new one.
