Pow blocks and p switches have little LEDs inside them. Coins, being just a gold alloy reflect light. Thus, if there's very little light, there's nothing to reflect. The bigger 10, 30, and 50 coins aren't actually coins, they're coin shaped pinatas with the listed amount inside, so they can also have a little LED. It's all perfectly logical.

December 2, 2021 he had an actual 500 second speedrun. He beat it with 5 seconds to spare. It was a one-screen thing with a single pair of doors that broke a block every time you made a loop and then gave the clear condition after you went through the door with all the blocks gone.

Coins reflect light because they are shiny, thus no source of light means in the dark they are not bright. P-switches look translucent like some sort of night light things, it’s not much of a stretch to say they could have lightbulbs in them. POW blocks may be opaque but I could totally see them being coated in some kind of UV reactive luminescent paint. Bullet proof logic indeed..

The dark level was actually just the snow themed title-screen level with minor edits (power-ups -> vines, bonus spikes, etc.) so I think that's how you were supposed to know where the coins were

Try changing the contrast on your computer when it comes to dark levels. FYI it might hurt the eyes but you will be able to see things in the dark but it helps tho
