Its amazing how Solstafirs sound changed in the last 12 years. Í Blóði og Anda was the first album i bought and it was full of bitterness and despair. I see that the emotionality of their music never left this band. Sure, now the sound is different. But i enjoy it as much as the old one, if not even more because of its wider spectrum.

We can observe many symbolic figures on this video. The girl follows a path, the path of his life, begins at the sea and continues across the mountains, the desert (with a crashed plane as a awesome metaphore of a dead carcass), the river and, finally, the waterfall as a symbol of transition. The coffin represents his own body (his thoughts, her flesh), dragging him heavily. She wisely avoids earthly illusions and continues his march to an uncertain fate. The spirits are always around her: some of them are silent companions (those marked with the symbol Hulinhjálmur), they cannot help but they are always by her side; the demon (marked with the Ægishjalmur symbol on his forehead) use the blood to reveal the truth (the mechanism of the unseen) through visions, sealing his revelation with silence. She reaches the waterfall... and the interpretation of what there happens depends on the vision of each one.

@TheMetalalien8 жыл бұрын
+rockkavenue my first thought was that she was freed from this burden (death of a loved one) she was suffering under. She let go of her past/ let the old suffering version of her behind (die) and the new(born) her is ready to embrace the future. :) but its art and everybody has their own interpretation but maybe mine could make you stop wanting to cry ;)

This song, and the video, summarizes perfectly what it's like to be in love with a pathologically narcissistic person. The girl symbolizes the 'normal' half of the relationship, the one who suffers and bleeds for and carries the coffin (the relationship) while the narcissist looks on with indifference and even taunts her... True story.

I've seen various thoughts on the meaning of the video. When I first saw it, I thought it was her taking her own coffin to the falls because she'd lost him and couldn't carry on (else why would she open it at the top?). I've seen others say it's his coffin she's taking so she can be free to move on which is why he appears to her.

I recently discovered this song and i can only wonder why i didn't hear it before. It's a sad song, but great too. Even when i don't understand the text. Just one question, is the video sponsored by the Icelandic bureau for tourism? ;-) I love the backgrounds, it's a great landscape. Compared to these backgrounds my country (Netherlands) is dull and flat.

Abimael Quinzada Good observation - however I had never even seen the Vacuity video until almost a year after Fjara had been released. On my word. Our concept for Fjara was based on 'Django' (1966), not to mention Friðrik Þór Friðriksson's 'Börn náttúrunnar' (Children of Nature, 1991) - another honorable mention is Danzig's 'Crawl Across Your Killing Floor' (1997).... they were our inspiration, not Gojira.

womens surnames in iceland always ends with "dottir" and mans with "son" if i'm right?! i can remember something i 've read abot this.

Scandinavians didn't have last names until recently, so they don't really tell you much. My grandmother was a Knutsson, so I'm related to some Norwegian dude name Knut. Super helpful.
@karlwilhelmsson32398 жыл бұрын
Icelandic surnames are very simple. Just your father's name with "-son" (to boys) or "-dóttir" to girls. An example: Baldúr Kolbeinsson / Helga Kolbeinsdóttir. The father's name is "Kolbein".

these are the lyrics if you're interested This is the furthest I will go. Never the same again. The vile path calling me, the day I ran from life again. If I win this one time, it will still be the end of me. My belief that nothing ends well. This is the end for me. Day and night heart was uneased. Broken will frozen smile. Riding on, heart pumping tears. Day and night I walk alone. Bones rotting in the earth, like your secrets that you long kept from me. But blood weighs more than silence. Broken words, shards in your mouth, cut deeper than any wound. Broken vows will never be the same. Lies like the viper's bite.
