S1 E1 Pressing Modern Age Marvel Comic Books with Digital Code Inserts by KaptainMyke. This episode features 2014 Marvel Comics AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #4 Cindy Moon as SILK. Most Marvel Comics modern age comic books now feature a 1" digital code insert on the last 4th or 5th page of comic book. When pressing a comic book with a digital code, it's important not to imprint that 1" square onto the last 5 pages of your book! In order to do this safely and properly, it's recommended to use 100 or 110 lb cardstock paper before and after the digital code insert page. If you do not have cardstock paper, you can use inkjet paper but you will need to use 2 sheets at each page all the way to the back cover.
The technique shown uses 2 large 15"x15" sheets of aluminum 1/8" thick. Using aluminum plates maintains a flat hard rigid conductive surface for the heat to transfer to comic book. When using steel or aluminum plates, the technique shown requires 1 magazine backer board above and below your comic book. When using just the provided silicone pad mat and metal platen on press machine, I would recommend 3 magazine backer boards above and below your comic book. Pressing damp books from a humidity tank chamber also requires 3 magazine sized backer boards during press. The magazine backer boards act as a clean sterile easily disposable surface for your Silicone Release Paper (SRP) and comic book to rest inside of. Using no such protection can cause accidental indentations, divots, fingerprints, dust particles and other debris that can imprint into the covers of your comic book. Always perform work on comic books in a clean and sterile environment. Our hands (and being human) causes all sorts of accidental damage to comics during and after pressing. so when you turn on press machine at 155 F degrees for 5-10 minutes do you wait for press machine to get to desired temp before you start the 5-10 minute clock?

For Clamshell and Swivel press machines, you turn on machine after you have already set the stacking layers and book inside machine. For a Seal Dry Mount Laminating Press Machine, you preheat the machine before placing your book stack. A Seal machine's recommended temperature is 10 degrees cooler than recommended for a Clamshell or Swivel Mount Press Machine.

Cardstock covers with deep denting or deep creases are unpressable. A tack iron and regular pressing might help, but it's really extremely unlikely that any defects can be removed. Corner crunches and deep dents are a lost cause for cardstock covers.

No audio, just subtitles. KZbin has licensing rights and copyright issues with copyrighted music playing, and I don't care for my voice being recorded. Many times there are cuts or edits due to wife and child or cat interrupting while recording. Just trying to keep it professional as possible.

Hey Kaptain Myke, What do you think of removing the comic books from the press after I have Heat pressed them on both sides and then putting them under a large stack of heavy books overnight. This way I could free up my press and increase the volume of books I can output.

I don't suggest that. Reversion could take place, or wavy pages from removing book too soon under heat. You would also need a minimum of 15 pounds as a weight to keep book flat. For best posssible results, I would leave the book in the press for 24 hours. Only brand new modern age comic books from 2002-Present with glossy interior pages can be removed every 2 hours for flipping/removing.

Hello, is it ok to press Chromium books? example ASM 300? Thanks in advance

Chromium is not recommended because it can shatter under high heat conditions. You could try to press the book inside a press machine with no heat, or very very low heat such as 100F-125F. I would try 24 hours with no heat, first, if you are concerned about the cover shattering. Valiant books from the 90s that are chromium will curl up at the corners and sometimes shatter, creating a spider-web like effect.
