There is one youtuber in Russia, and his nik is Radio Tapok (Radio Slipper). And first of all, Army of Tapok is here. So usualy he makes a russian covers of famost songs, but also he has some videos named 'Easyrock'. In that videos Tapok makes a song simmilar to famost bands style. So about year ago he did the Easyrock to Sabaton. And now Sabaton makes a cover of him!

Here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6iTm4R4gcebgrc And I think you should check his covers as well! (not only Sabaton of course). Two more facts about Sabaton and Tapok. Tapok's video cover in Russian for The Attack Of The Dead Men was released one day before the official audio version of the song (and it was not a leak as Sabaton themselves took part in the video) And it was just awesome. Second - Tapok sang that song on the stage along with Joakim in Russia, so the verses were sung in Russian by Tapok and the chorus in English by both vocalists. PS my favorite Sabaton song is Night Witches (or Ночные Ведьмы by Tapok - check it out!)

My guess: Russia gets so much bad press in the West that it's easy to forget that behind the bad press is just a bunch of people who have nothing to do with any of that press, and so seeing people from all over react to and have such a love for an ode to and reminder of a part of their history would be alluring. (Probably could have worded it better, but I hope I get my thought across.)

Agreed that this is Sabaton's best song yet, even if they didn't write it, their choice of the Russo/Soviet Anthem as a framework for their chordal progressions really sets it apart from the Radio Tapok original, which has more of a mournful "You will be remembered for your heroic sacrifice, Comrade" mood than the pumped "Ve are stronk like Russian Bear! Let's kick their Yatzee butts all the way back to Berlin, and work up a #6 on 'em!" The Russian Anthem is a very solid and inspiring composition and arguably the world's best, only the French La Marseillaisse can compare, and in Sabaton's hands it bangs and shreds remarkably well. This grateful American who KNOWS that Normandy and Iwo were far from the worst WW ll ever got, doffs his hat. I may not have to face the Wermacht, but It'll definitely help me take on the weight stack.

Amazing WWII fact. Of all Russian soldiers who turned 20 in 1941 and were drafted (which was a helluva lot) only 3% survived the war. 97 of every 100 Russian soldiers drafted to defend Moscow, Leningrad, etc. were killed by the Germans.

As for the track: Sabaton has an amazing charisma and property, when listening to their tracks in a foreign language you penetrate with patriotism to what they sing about. @Powerful Reactions: To give you some history, this song is about the Defense of Moscow, known in the Wehrmacht as "Operation: Typhoon" during "Operation: Barbarossa," the German invasion of Russia. Operation: Barbarossa began on 22 June 1941. Led by General Guderian and Army Group Center, Guderian attempted to capture Moscow and end the war in the East by October. It was known from Napoleon's invasion that, as the Russians say, that "General January" and "General February" make invading Russia difficult, if not impossible. Operation: Barbarossa took place as a result of a broken Molotov-Ribbontrop Pact, a non-agression treaty originally agreed to by Hitler and Stalin, which divided up Poland and created the "Danzig Corridor." It was against this backdrop that led to Operation: Typhoon, after the German Arny, the Wehrmacht, with the Luftwaffe in support, had captured Smolensk, a Black Sea port city. During Operation: Typhoon, the Luftwaffe, along with Panzer units, managed to destroy Russia's 2 KV-2 heavy tanks, which guarded the two main roads to Moscow. Additionally, the German Panzers managed to destroy over 90% of defending Russian armor, such as the KV-1 heavy tank and Tu-85 medium tank. By the time Russia was able to repel the German invasion close to Moscow, the only city not captured was Tula to the south. History books say the Germans were stopped 15 miles, 24 km, from Moscow. But this is inaccurate, as elements of Guderian's Army Group Center did manage to breach the Russian defenses and get inside Moscow. The main reason for the success of the Russian defenders is that on 2 sides, Moscow has a river as natural terrain. And the Germans failed to capture a bridge to allow their armor to cross into Moscow. It also didn't help that for the vast majority of Operation: Typhoon, bad weather grounded Luftwaffe crews and planes, which the Wehrmacht needed as support. That said, the forward elements lasted 3 weeks fighting in and around Moscow, before being forced to fall back. At which point, the Russians gave chase, and after repelling the initial contact with only 6 tanks, started receiving both early T-34, T-34/85, and replacement Tu-85 medium tanks from east of the Urals. (Stalin had been forced to relocate 5,000 factories to beyond the Ural Mountains, as to protect them from German bombers.) In addition, from 1941 on, Russian military units would literally capture and repair disabled German tanks, and then later use them against German units later.
