Actually the McDonald's lady: she was sitting in a parked car in the PASSENGER SEAT. She took the lid off to put in sugar/creamer and it spilled on her. The coffee was so hot she got 3rd degree burns on her crotch and thighs and is now PERMANENTLY disfigured. The icing on the cake is that it was completely McDonald's fault because they heated the coffee machine up on purpose!

There’s pictures of her injuries and…. my god…. something you’re supposed to drink should not be injuring anyone that severely! oh god, Jarvis's story about the Racism Barber reminds me of the last time I got a piercing. I was sat there with this guy about to shove a needle in my ear, and, well, he clocks that I'm trans, as the name on my credit card and my face don't particularly match (and they make you pay before you get the piercing) and just starts going on about his childhood friend who's also trans and asked him to stop dead naming them. This was for an industrial bar piercing, meaning basically 2 at once, y'know, so he jabs the needle through the first hole. and then starts yammering about how people are too sensitive and "I knew you by this name for like 20 years I'm not gonna start calling you a new name you made up, fuck off haha" with the needle just fuckin, dangling in my ear. and I'm like haha yeah that's definitely a rough adjustment, my family had a hard time, took them a year haha. Kind of hoping to gently coax him into realizing of his own accord that hes being a dick. But he doubles down and keeps making such WEIRD transphobic jokes. He was good at piercing, my industrial is all healed and pretty now, but man, what a weird experience. I didn't want to piss him off and end up with a bad piercing LOL. Never went back there, either. Gotta love Florida!
@justalostlocal10 ай бұрын
Yeah, totally understandable. A needle in your ear and near eyes and other sh*t is not fun. Nobody wants permanent injury bc of a triggered transphobe. I find it funny that "a name they made up" is a disqualifier to this dude when all names are made up. An adult choosing their name is arguably more personally meaningful then their parents making that decision for them. Even outside of trans existence, not respecting such a personal aspect of a friend shows me how much of a d*ck nugget that piercer is. Hope that trans person stop being around such a "friend" for their sake. God, how could someone lack the most basic of self reflection.

So bizarre people feel other people’s names need to be “fair” to them. My friend who isn’t even trans recently started going by a new name because of some kind of negative connections to the old one and we’ve all just started using the new name and don’t pry about the exact reasons. My mom also goes by her first and middle name together and hates being called just her first name. And my legal name is Margaret but as a kid I was called Maisie (nickname for Margaret) and eventually decided to use the Margaret name other than with family and other particular people and while I don’t necessarily want everyone calling me Maisie I consider both names to be my names. But people tend not to bat an eye at stuff like that. No one’s phased by that (except I guess that one mom that was freaking out about her son Andrew starting to go by Andy lmfao). But when it’s a trans person, suddenly calling them their new names is some ridiculous Herculean task. It’s ridiculous.

same. So to make it easier for everyone (mostly myself from the second hand embarrassment) I'm thinking of using a different name for people to refer me as, while still keeping my actual name cause I like it, teehee. As a Panera employee, I can provide some updates on the lemonade situation. The bubblers that hold the drinks do have signs that state the accurate caffeine content, but the signs also say that they contain "the same amount of caffeine as our dark roast coffee". That statement does not account for the much larger sizes the charged lemonades come in compared to the coffee. Also, the bubblers are now mandated to be placed behind the counter so that only employees can fill them. Customers can't read the caffeine content from a distance because the text is so small, AND Panera has since changed the signs so that they now assume that the drink has ice. Most customers either ask for no ice or "very little", so they will consume more caffeine than is advertised.
@jshowao10 ай бұрын
At some point, people have to be intelligent enough to know that more volume of a drink = more caffeine on the drink It makes you wonder why all coffee isnt regulated as, per oz, the amount caffeine in coffee is roughly equivalent to the lemonade.
@melissaluddy51367 ай бұрын
I do think it's unclear when they say "This drink contains as much caffeine as our dark roast coffee". Because what it implies on it's surface is "A default size of this lemonade contains the same total caffeine as a default-size coffee" but what they actually mean is "this liquid, ounce for ounce, has the same caffeine content as the same amount of coffee, which is an amount few people would drink at all at once, because of the caffeine content." which is so unclear that it feels deliberately misleading.
@vlad50424 ай бұрын
@@jshowaoi think it just comes down to the fact that basically no one would knowingly drink that much coffee. id be curious to see what would happen if someone did order a coffee of that size and the barista gave it to them and then smth bad happened, seems like it would be crazier to try and hold them to account for that bc its such common knowledge that coffee has a lot of caffeine.

Our location initially had a couple posted next to the bubblers but ended up soaked before the end of the day. I am a smart person- I have studied Panera in school, been a fan of them for over 10 years (friends had their 10th bday party there!) but had absolutely no clue about the caffeine content. It wasn’t listed anywhere I could notice. the worst part to me about the lack of transparency is that they switched their fruit teas out with this, making it seem like it was a harmless tea like lemonade. Also I don’t personally associate charged with caffeine, so people calling others dumb for not knowing feels silly

One charged lemonade is ~3.5 redbulls that means that girl had the equivalent to FOURTEEN REDBULLS!! Also it doesn't help that the "Charged Lemonade" on the signs of the jugs is graphically designed in such a way that the eye can easily glaze over it. Especially if its with the normal drinks it's very easy to just think "Oh, mango lemonade sounds good, I'll have some of that!" I have been going to Panera since I was a child and the Non-Caffeinated lemonades were in those same containers when I was growing up. If someone mistakes it for one of those then what? People lacking sympathy and saying "They should have known" "they should have read the miniscule sign" are neglecting to realize that people don't read. Anyone who has ever worked in retail and food service can tell you that people don't read. It's not enough. And I can say first hand, even as someone who has KNOWN about the charged lemonade and plans on never drinking it due to issues with caffeine, I almost got one with my fountain drink. Because I thought it was a normal flavored lemonade and I wasn't paying attention.

As an ADHDer my perspective might be a little affected by the fact that my brain just clicks with the way you guys think, but i genuinely think you are both very eloquent. Like I've ALSO been told the same and been like genuinely wtf how do you think that i lose the plot of my sentences constantly. But like i think its so hard for us to accept it because I think we are so aware of that that our pauses at this point sound like measured and thoughtful and what seems so THERE from the ADHD frenzy happening in our brains just isn't reflected on the outside. Like we have so much practice and we're trying so so hard to compensate for it that we end up coming off really eloquent. Also like we're constantly analyzing our brains so we just know ourselves so well that when we talk to others we sound so self aware and I've noticed that seeming self aware makes a huge impact on whether someone thinks you're eloquent. Its so weird but I guess after everyone says it enough maybe there's some truth to it. Idk but yeah glad to know im not the only ADHDer with this experience :)

@alpacafish126910 ай бұрын
lol SAME. I almost never finish my sentences properly and have constant pauses when talking. Like, our brains are in a constant frenzy. One person said something, that I agree on, is that the ADHD mind often times is accumulating/ processing information + thoughts at a RAPID pace and thus the constant pauses, memory blocks, subject skipping etc. Which to me makes SO much sense. I always feel like my thoughts are leaving and going so quickly that I can't even properly recall on WHAT THE ACTUAL THOUGHT I HAD *WAS.* So whenever I see people who have that ability to verbally express themselves so adequately/ eloquently, I get soooooo fuggin jealous. And you're so right on saying that us ADHDers have a hard time accepting that we could do or be the exact same since we're constantly analyzing our brains. Like, I literally have gotten the "You express yourself so nicely" before and let me tell you not once could I properly believe that compliment. lol ADHD is *hard.* 😔

The biggest issue with the panera lemonaide is that at 390 milligrams of caffeine for a large, it contains 40 more milligrams than the most caffeinated energy drink on the market. The alleged value of 260 mg for 20 fl oz equals 13 mg/oz. For reference, Red Bull has about 9.25 mg/oz, Monster has about 10 mg/oz, Bang energy about 18.75 mg/oz, and the most caffeinated drink on the market (Spike Hardcore) has almost 22 mg/oz.

39:40 exactly, it was way too hot, that's the reason she won too, it was abnormally hot even for someone who expects hot coffee. I spill coffee on myself all the time, right on my hands, right out of the pot or the cup at a cafe. But I've never actually been burned because coffee is not even really supposed to reach boiling, if it has you burn the coffee, it's not tea, tea is boiling water, coffee is below the point of boiling, and usually that doesn't cause very severe burns. If it's hot enough to burn, not only do you not know how to make coffee, but you've made it more dangerous than any normal cup of coffee. It's like ifnInirder eggnog and they put a toxic amount of nutmeg in it and I have to go to a doctor, you wouldn't go "well eggnog has nutmeg in it, what did you expect?" I expected 1 gram if nutmeg and got 1/2 a cup of it and it's a safety issue. So if I order a coffee that is typically brewed at 190°F and you give me a coffee that is 212° and it burns me worse than a regular temperature coffee would, you're liable.
