The way I always interpreted “downhill” being bad in the saying is like it’s a graph so line goes down = bad. Although now that I think about it, there is an identical saying in Polish (which is my native language) where “downhill” actually does mean it’s easy from now on. Surprising to me that I never got those mixed up.

Reached the part that's about KZbin rewind and how it doesn't work which reminds me of a video Hank Green did where, he suggested that Rewinds should be personalized highlights of what channels you watched most and the type of content you're into. So, basically Spotify Wrapped, but for videos. It was such an amazing and honestly obvious idea, and with how social media sites really love taking things from each other, I'm surprised KZbin hadn't done this. Really great Podcast btw, thanks for filling lots of silence this year. Excited for more Boyz!

YT is just dumb, because they already do “wrapped” with the YT music recap, they started doing them like 2021 or 2022, and I’ve had 2 recaps since using the app. They also do seasonal recaps and make nice little albums for each of your recaps. Small history lesson about denim signifying wealth: While the iron curtain was down, american made products were rare and expensive. Someone would get to go abroad and bring a bag fool of foreign clothes to give to all the family and friends. Denim jeans would absolutely be the type of thing to brag about in school. After the iron curtain fully fell, in 1991, former societ union countries were in disarray - political, legal, economical. In Russia, "New Russians" quickly took advantage of the shaky economic and legal systems during that time. Many of them are oil barons and are influential in the government now, some didn' make it. The stereotype is of them in denim and gold - most expensive objects in the eyes of very recently poor, soviet-born New Russians
@northstarjakobs9 ай бұрын
I remember hearing that people would often cut their worn out jeans into scraps for cushioning and protecting mail, and that people in Japan would sew those denim scraps back into jeans and sell them.

39:30 re: the lock and key metaphor, my first thought is that if multiple people have the key to your house, it's because you gave them a copy. If someone has a key that opens many doors (like a skeleton or master key) and could get into your house without permission, that's much scarier.
@barrothontherocks332510 ай бұрын
my take on it is insecurity, like they think the "other key holder" is in a position to come back in and open the door at any time. just an attempt to not come out and directly say "you can't have male friends because you're 100% going to cheat on me"

Olives are the OG pallet cleanser and serve their purpose just fine with one on top of a toothpick on a sandwich or on the side of a charcuterie to go after the snacks and before dinner. It is the anti-mint and serves that purpose well. I only eat 2-3 with a meal though, and green olives on a pizza does sound overpowering, and that pizzeria had a psychopath for a cook.
