17:50 It's kinda dark, but i guess "self deletion", when you're so deep into the abyss, you would feel that, there's only one way out. Oh and the reason sadness gets so handsy with the memories, is literally what happens when you reminisce past happy memories, that you know you'll never get back, a slight tint of sadness will envelope it. A feeling of melancholy.

@@richarddollar4912 yeah the self sacrifice trope always hits me real hard. Like Bruce Willis in Armageddon. The fact that he(Bing Bong) was jumping for joy(both figuratively and literally), also added to it, he was so happy he could help his friend, even at the cost of his life and even tho his friend has basically forgotten about him after she started growing up and made human friends.

Pixar consulted many psychologists so they could figure out how many emotions they would have in this movie and the thing is they picked these ones because when they work together they can make more emotions, in the end the yellow and blue memory was actually a melancholy memory, Joy doesn’t feel sad she feels melancholic and Sadness doesn’t feel jolly she feels melancholic as well, instead of anger Fear feels hate (and so does Anger instead of fear), Disgust doesn’t feel jolly she feels intrigued, Fear doesn’t feel jolly he feels surprised, Sadness doesn’t feel afraid she feels anxious, Anger doesn’t feel sad he feels betrayed, there are more exemples you can search

I understood immediately when Sadness was changing the happy memories. It happens every time we lose something. We remember the happiness we had with that someone or something and we are sad that it's gone and in the past. Happy memories become sad through loss.

i feel like not enough people get that her emotions and their actions are not separate from her - it's still her. so it's not like she is controlled by them, i mean, in a sense, but like we are controlled by our emotions, we can't help it. so when sadness went touching memories all of a sudden, it was riley. cause things changed so much, all of her past memories are now making her feel sad, cause it won't be like it was before. change is often scary and painful. and joy desperately wanting to keep sadness away, it's riley trying to be only positive and not letting herself be sad
@videohistory722

This movie is INCREDIBLE with color theory. Riley: striped shirt as they're moving with all colors on them to show theyre in harmony, or so it seems. yellow jacket on the first day of school because she's still young enough to be excited. Striped shirt sans blue and yellow at the dinner table because all of her emotions are fighting for control with joy and sadness gone. Black jacket because she's emotionally shutting down. Emotions: joy has blue hair, backing up the theory joy and sadness go hand in hand. Disgust has a purple ascot, suggesting disgust is mainly motivated by what scares us. Anger is wearing a red tie showing how when were angry, we can't see, hear, or feel anything else. Think, "seeing red". And finally Sadness is wearing a white turtleneck as a combination of all the emotions, like how all light is combined to make white light.

There's one thing I've always wondered about this film: don't babies cry, like all the time? Usually to let adults know they need help? By that logic, did sadness know her purpose when Riley was born and lost it when she became a toddler?
@cambriatevis6907
@cambriatevis6907 Жыл бұрын
Have you ever heard of happy babies? Some babies don't cry that much. Also Sadness had the right instincts even if she wasn't sure why she felt compelled. Understanding your emotions is quite different than having them. ...Also I don't think that Joy was acting in a purposeful way either, just acting out of instinct.

I've had the thought that they could have given Joy an extra line when she's listing the purposes of the other emotions and gets to Sadness. Something about how Sadness used to be helpful but now that Riley can talk to ask for things she's just kind of hanging around.

25:42 Ok but those "bunch of lunatics controlling her" are her literal thoughts and emotions though XD they are only there to portray her thoughts into individual feelings. Anger was in charge because it's easy to do reckless things when you let your anger get the best of you, fear was there to tell them the logical consequences of their actions but anger keeps denying him, much how like we push back our fear/rationality to let anger control us to do irrational things

Not sure if you get it but… The whole movie is a metaphor for depression as a child, how it feels and how is represented by emotions, when they act involuntary is a sign of how she really feels inside and how she handle it, not because of the being inside her, also this movie talks about toxic positivity 😅

This movie is a showcase why Pixar is the top company to work for if you're an animator. Such a crazy creative movie based simply on something as mundane as "emotions". Pixar really has been able to make great movies out of the oddest things. Toys that come to life, monsters that come through your closet and scare you to power their city, a rat that wants to be a French chef, an old man who flies his house to South America, and emotions inside of heads. I can’t name any other studio as creative as Pixar.

Little fun fact: Everything Brocoli related changes in Japan for Green Peppers, which is the basic "unwanted vegetable" there. And here is a more subtle one: At the start of the movie, Riley wears clothes with various and flashy colors (like when she arrives at the new house), when all her emotions are still there. After Joy and Sadness go missing, her clothes start to get more pale, faded. Now look when she's "dead inside" and runs away, full black. No emotions, no color.

Like almost everyone, hating on Sadness at the start and loving her by the end. This movie does a good job of representing the concept of Toxic Positivity and even does a fairly good job of showcasing Depression. How you stop being able to be sad or happy, and slowly just stop feeling anything at all. (which having experienced myself, I was shocked at how accurate this movie captured it) Also, while the five core emotions seem basic, combining them is where you develop other emotions. Sadness may be the leader in Mom's mind, but sadness is also necessary for empathy. Nostalgia/meloncholy is a mix of joy and sadness, for example, which the movie shows as Riley looks back on memories of her life in her old home. And this movie shows that in order to grow up, you start developing more complex emotions, and that often requires a mix of different feelings.

"...does she only have five emotions..." The original concept called for something like _thirty_ of them. But... you can't have a _movie_ about thirty people and have any of them _mean_ much, so they paired it down _a lot_ to try to make it possible to tell the story.

Joy goes through all five emotions throughout the film. Joy is obviousy her primial emotion but she shows anger when she scolds Sadness at the start, Disgust towards The Imaginary Boyfriend, Fear during Abstract Throughts and to the horrors of the Subconscious especially Jangles the Clown and finally Sadness at the Memory Dump. The other emotions do shows other emotions outside of their primial ones but just a couple. Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust shows some kind of happiness at times, Sadness shows fear about the same time as Joy does and Disgust shows angrer when she shouts "What do we know about being happy?!".

The Guards Dave and Frank are voiced by Frank Oz and Dave Goelz, two of the original muppeteers (Oz is retired but Goelz despite being in his 70's still puppeteering). Frank Oz have puppeteered Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Sam the Eagle, Grover, Cookie Monster and even Yoda in Star Wars (and voiced him in Episodes II and III even if Yoda there was a digital character) and voiced Fungus in Monsters, Inc. Dave Goelz puppeters Gonzo, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Zoot, Waldorf (taking over from Jim Henson after he passed away in 1990) Beaugarde and voices Figment at Journey Through YOUR Imagination at Epcot (Figment also makes a cameo in this movie as portrait, right after Bing Bong have been consoled by Sadness). Speaking of Epcot, this movie have similar themes with the former attraction Cranium Command at the now defunct Wonders of Life, which is a animatronic and screen show about a Brain Pilot named Buzzy controlling the brain of a 12 year old boy named Bobby and interacting with guys controlling his organs like Left and Right Brain, The Heart, The Stomach, The Aderaline Gland and The Bladder plus a robot The Hypothalumus, controlling the automatic functions like breathing and blinking. Buzzy controls Bobby through a day of his life consisting of waking up and getting dressed, skipping breakfast and missing the school bus, running to school, fall with love with a girl, defending her against bullies, having a food fight at lunch, sent to the principle's office and getting kissed by the girl, all this while Buzzy's CO General Knowledge giving him advice and warnings of being transfered to the brain of a chicken if he fails his mission. Director Pete Docter worked on Cranium Commands' pre show as an animtor (before he started at Pixar) and his head makes a cameo in it. Docter wasn't consciously thinking of Cranium Command when he did Inside Out but realized it when he was reminded of the former afterwards. The Disney short Inner Workings also have a similiar theme to Cranium Command, about a brain taking control of a guy named Paul and his daily routine while The Lungs, Heart, Stomach and Bladder distracting Paul by giving away to temptations such as eating pancakes and buying sun glasses from a hot chick. This movie was shown before Moana/Vaiana in theaters.

The editing and effort you put into these videos is top notch and the fact that you actually give real input not just sit there and look pretty. Keep it up! That's why you (and The Normies) are my favorite reaction channels on here. Also one request, I know it's more of an anime, but I highly recommend it it's called "A Silent Voice." :D

I love how Pixar can explain heavier themes in this fun way. Could you please react to The Queens Gambit? I would love to hear your opinion! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍💛💛💛💛💛

I love this movie SOOOOOO much. I’ve said this before, the more happiness takes over in a bad position, the more chaotic sadness becomes and which causes her to freak out more

Alot of people hated Joy's character. They had to redo her lines and stuff too bc TOO MANY people hated her. I think her character isn't always likeable it is a part of her character arc.

When sadness started to change the core memories it wasn't like she did It on purpose, she herself said that she simply wanted to touch them, even though she didn't know why That's literally Riley's mind trying desperately to fell sad about the memories because no matter how good they were at the time, the fact that Riley's family moved out makes impossible to relive it without feeling sad about it It wasn't Sadness fault because Riley's mind was basically forcing her to make Riley sad, cause' right than that's everything she needed to fell

Sadness (Phyllis Smith) & Joy (Amy Poehler) carried the movie. Bing Bong (Richard Kind), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), Anger (Lewis Black) & Fear (Bill Hader) were huge helps.

Riley is 11 throughout the movie and 12 at the end, so technically she is a PRE-teen. You're not a teen until you turn 13.

I love how Riley's dad's emotions were all men and Riley's mom's emotions were all women but Riley's emotion's gender are mixed.. It can mean two things Either Riley is questioning..And once she figures out her gender...Her emotions will become the gender she is sure of or it means she is not one of the two genders also Riley's emotions are childish and immature(which is why at first sadness may have come off as irritating but she was just curious..Also that is indeed what we feels sometimes) unlike her parents whose emotions are very controlled and stuff.. Cause these emotions are children as well.. the emotions are as old as they are
