I had a natures head and absolutely loved it. Best marine head for a smaller sailboat. I have cruised the same waters two separate times totaling around 10 months. Your videos do a great job highlighting a few of the best memories I have.

Those hot springs were beyond words..... especially since we don't have a hot water heater on the boat.... Alaska is a cold place!!
@AfterDeath19863 жыл бұрын
@@CruisingMaya aye we have a hot water tank that can use shore power or a heat exchanger with the engine and I kinda thing if we go north it will be a much loved item.. hot showers however quick are awesome :) I forget do you guys have a diesel space heater in Maya? If so did you like it? If you used another system or none at all, what was your .02? If I can ask...
@CruisingMaya3 жыл бұрын
@@AfterDeath1986 we have a solid fuel heater and, while it does heat up the boat, it's a pain to keep going. Next time, I'm going with a diesel heater. Would have been so nice to flip on the heater first thing in morning... especially on those cold wet mornings.

I absolutely LOVE your vids! I came across them recently and have really been enjoying your travels and adventures on Maya. The scenery has been spectacular, too. I have NEVER been sailing so I'm quite green in that department. I see you use a compost toilet, but how do you handle Disco toilet needs when you can't get to shore for her? I'm playing the guessing game on this, but am wondering how you manage her needs on board in that regard. Thanks so much and I look forward to following your adventures.

Great episode guys! I love Alaska, I used to guide out of King Salmon but I have never been to S. E. AK can’t wait to go in a few years. It is so beautiful. I am cruising to the S Pacific in the Spring and will drop into AK on the way back to the West Coast US in a year or two. How do you like your Portland Pudgy? Can you get it on deck for offshore sailing? Thanks, Ben S/V DAWN
@CruisingMaya3 жыл бұрын
Ahoy fellow cruiser and thanks for your comment! SE AK is amazing! So much natural beauty and just straight up wilderness- something that can be hard to find in the world today. We love our pudgy- it takes a lickin' and keeps tickin'. I couldn't imagine doing this trip with a dinghy that I had to worry about scratching paint or blowing a hole in it. We store the pudgy up forward on deck and hoist it up with a halyard and winch. Two person job, but only takes about 15 minutes. Thanks again for your comment- safe travels and cheers!

At what depth do you guys generally set your shrimp pots? Deep for shrimp shallow for crabs? And WOWWWWWW on the hot springs and even those free hot water bath tubs. I cant even imagine how amazing it must feel to get off the boat and jump into a nice fresh hot bath. Great episode guys!!!!
@CruisingMaya3 жыл бұрын
For shrimp we are generally in the 200-300' depth range. For crab usually no deeper than 50'.... ALTHOUGH we have heard that crab are usually deeper in AK due to the otters- otters love crab and can clean them right out of shallower depths. Cant confirm that bc we didnt fish for crab deep, but wanted to share that. And yes, that hot water was heavenly (we dont have a hot water heater aboard Maya so it was extra great). As always, thanks for watching we appreciate you following our journey.
@timnoneya8113 жыл бұрын
@@CruisingMaya Thanks for the reply and the confirmation on depths. That's really interesting about the otters. I'd have never guessed but it makes total sense now that you mention it.
@CruisingMaya3 жыл бұрын
@@timnoneya811 we were surprised at how hard it was to catch crab up in AK- Sounds like it was both time of year and us fishing shallower depths (under 50'). There were also a lot of otters so I think the deeper water theory could be right.
@brendabourns60042 жыл бұрын
@@CruisingMaya We were there right after you, but took a different route. There are zero crab when you are seeing lots of sea otters - confirmed by local fisherfolk. In other areas of the inside passage, there were no sea otters (don't know why), but we were successful crabbing in 20-30 feet.

Compost toilett waste could go in nature?
@CruisingMaya3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the waste can be buried in the ground a few hundred feet from any water sources. We've actually done this when we did our boat trip around Vancouver Island.

@CruisingMaya2 жыл бұрын
I think it would probably be ok when you are miles off shore, but I don't think you're supposed to pump out in interior waters.... could be wrong- not sure. We just bag it and throw it in the trash when we are in town. For what its worth, we love the composting head- wouldn't have it any other way.
