Great Video Nike. Next time you are down Cartagena way be sure to visit my friends Jorge and Karen in Bocachica (a town on Isle Terra Bomba.) They are at the YWAM Medical Mission there in town. They have volunteers there from different parts of the world - including regulars from Germany. The town has a West Africian feel and there is a old fortress there too which is interesting.

Howdy from Texas! Starting on my repower. The new equipment (beta 40) has the wide belts which are more durable. Don't think it is cost effective to replace your pulleys to accommodate them though. I am laying in a stock of perishable parts like pulleys and pump impellers.Thanks for all the background information on your trips. It is engaging to learn a little more about "real" life of the locals and sailing conditions.

Ever give any thought to doing the loop in the states? I'm planning a trip up the east coast around Newfoundland then up the Great Lakes and down the ICW back to Panama. Other than taking the mast down for a few bridges it's sounds like it will be fun.

WOW! I love Colombia.... And I have traveled there many times! How in the hell did you find parts in Cartagena?!! Anytime I try to find anything in Bogota it takes at least a full day if your gathering different miscellaneous parts. How did you know which store-owner would have the part you need? My gosh, just to find a thermometer for plants in Bogota we spent all day at every large and small mom & pop shop you could find. Never did find a humidity gauge.

Hi +MrNurseinTExas, Cartagena is awesome for finding anything you need! They have a lot of shops and also a lot of very handy people who can help you. You just have to ask around a bit. Club Nautico has a good list to start with www.clubnauticocartagena.com/carta.htm. And there are some mechanics in the marina often as well that you can ask...or other cruisers, of course. I found i really great for supplies. And also, if one shop did not have it, they would be super helpful in providing further information. Ahoy, Nike

Just an observation: You are buying a lot of alternator belts. That means there is a problem you haven't found yet. Either the alternator isn't lined up properly with the crankshaft pulley, or there is a bearing problem in the alternator or another pulley on the belt. What this means is you have something that could be a much bigger failure point if it isn't addressed. I hope this points you in the right direction and keeps you on course! +W J Brock High output alternators need high quality belts. I changed the 35 amp alternator on my new engine to a 90 amp one and the belt lasted 30 minutes. Use Gates or Roflex belts, they last.

Thank you, +grancito2 and +W J Brock. I think, the pulley is a little tiny bit damaged...that is why it eats the belt. And also, the alternator gets very hot, does not help either. It's a 70 amp one...I will look for those type of belts and try to get a new pulley whilst I am in Germany. Ahoy, Nike

My two pennies worth on your belt problem. Both WJBrock and Grancito are correct. Should you consider upgrading to a set of wider pulleys to accommodate a wider belt that would last longer? Or is the belt/pulley alignment incorrect? Love your show. Wolfgang W.

Hi +montwolfman, I think that one of the ribs on the pulley is a bit sueezed and that is what destroys the belt. But I just found that our recently...but I will try to find a new pulley here in Germany...let's see if that works out. Ahoy, Nike

Hi +DenonClipper, I had a friend teach me which ones are good to catch. And if I am in a new place, and I spot some fish that look edible or where there are many, I look them up in a bood I have on board to see if they are edible or not. Most fish are not poisionous but might not be good in taste and therefore it would be a shame to catch them and then not to eat them...Although you can always use them as bait afterwards, I guess...But I prefer just to catch what I eat.
