Beat The WAITING Game: The Struggles of Repairing Lady Liselot's Engines; S3/E19
Most of the time this channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises with Lady Liselot". That's it.
This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.

Waarom ik alles in het Engels doe?
Omdat ik video's kijk van Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers én heel veel Engelstaligen die allemaal Engels lullen en ook bootjesmensen / liveaboards zijn. Want alleen dan kan je je ervaring wereldwijd delen. En wat blijkt? Mijn video's worden in 127 landen bekeken (zie S03/E01 voor de lijst). Veel van mijn kijkers en abonnees zijn Engelstaligen die mijn video's helemaal top vinden, omdat ze óf familie hebben uit Nederland, of hier jaren geleden zijn geboren en door omstandigheden nu elders op de wereld wonen. En, dat ik dan Engels spreek met een accentje (net als de Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers overigens) dan interesseert hen dat geen reet.
Weet je dat Nederlandse ondertiteling aan kan zetten? Doorgaans zo'n 4 uur nadat de video is gepubliceerd. Klik op de video, en kies uit de iconen die rechtsonder verschijnen dan voor [ondertiteling] en kies daar voor Nederlands. Dan wordt zelfs mijn steenkolen Engels (knap he van die jongens en meisjes KZbin) vertaald naar Nederlandsch.

Hey Jan. Leuk om te zien dat je weer moed hebt getoond en dat alles de goede kant op gaat... Ik ben nu ook de klos bij mijn Grand Banks 36... De motoren moeten eruit en gereviseerd worden. Ik hoef je niet te vertellen wat het kost maar het is te gek voor worden! En mijn goede humeur ver weg te vinden.

Potver, dat is heel vervelend voor je. Mochten het Perkins motoren zijn, dan weet ik twee experts te vinden. Wat is bij jou de oorzaak?

Ik heb 2x John Deere 6404's. Een machine heeft een zeer hoge interne druk. Hij duwt olie uit de motor via de krukasontluchting. En het wordt steeds meer. Inmiddels 0,6 liter met een looptijd van 30 uur. De enige oplossing. Uit ! Al mijn ramen moeten worden gedemonteerd en delen van de constructie moeten worden uitgesneden. Zal waarschijnlijk rond de 55k kosten... Ons Hart is op het Water maar daar word ik ff niet blij van... @@MVLadyLiselot

Good to hear that things are progressing with the motors, although, what a pain to have an order go missing! Almost tempted to collect the parts for you and drive over with them! I always amazes me that if I order something from here in the UK it can sometimes take weeks to arrive - recently I ordered a car part from Japan and it was here within 48hrs! grrrrr

I agree on that. It was not my intention to wine. It's a lovely village and beautiful surroundings. Almost every week I tell some one "I am happy the final accident with the 2nd engine happened in The Netherlands and not at sea so that I had to stay in Belgium or the UK whilst waiting for repairs".

Hi Henk-Jan. I really enjoy your videos. I have a question, the heat exchangers that appear to be the cause of your engine problems, are they made to operate in salt water? They appear to be made from non stainless steel.

I have no idea. The new ones have zincs in them, the old ones had not and were 25yo.

Hallo Henk-Jan, ik ben gisteren bij Meester motoren langsgeweest voor informatie voor een revisie van mijn 2 Perkins motoren en ik zag dat jouw motor er ook lag. Hoe ben jij bij Meester motoren terechtgekomen? Die mannen zien er wel heel sympathiek en vakkundig uit.

Hallo Karl, toen ik begin augustus op mijn Insta en FB pages een melding deed dat ook mijn 2e Perkins de geest had gegeven, dat ik op de Volkerak lag en hulp nodig had, kreeg ik van verschillende kanten de tip om contact op te nemen met Cor Meester. Ik heb geen vergelijkingsmateriaal met andere motoren-revisie-bedrijven, maar ervaar het contact met Cor en Fred (www.youtube.com/@meestermotoren4you) als zeer plezierig, down to earth en zie dat ze gedreven zijn. Ik zou het omschrijven als "Hoe eerder jij weer vaart, des te eerder kunnen wij aan een andere klus beginnen." En die klussen stapelen op, zo merk ik." Ze hebben een goede samenwerking met de lokale watersportvereniging en zelfs een eigen kade waar ik nu ook lig. Omdat ze op slechts 800m van die haven gevestigd zijn, wip ik elke 2, 3 dagen even binnen. Als je (vanwege het budget) wilt, kan je veel zelf doen, terwijl je hun kennis, kunde én gereedschappen achter de hand hebt. Op die momenten dat ik als sleutel-leek het even niet zag zitten, liep ik mopperend bij hen binnen en vertrok 10 minuten later met een glimlach op mijn gezicht, omdat er een trucje was voor de ellende waar ik aan had zitten werken. Omdat we moesten wachten op diverse onderdelen uit diverse landen, duurt mijn revisieproject langer dan normaal. Ik heb dus inmiddels al wat (kleinere) motoren de shop in zien komen, gefixt zien worden en de bootjes weer weg zien varen. Tot zover deze reclametekst. ;-)

Just viewed the Vimeo film. So sad to have your home in such trouble. My wife and I bought a 1994 boat and am now finding a ‘few’ issues. Brass fitting were used on some sea strainers which have now dezinced and therefore turned pink. This color indicates the fitting are very weak as the zinc in the brass has been removed by saltwater. Tried to loosen one fitting on a sea strainer and it fractured into multiple pieces. I’m now changing all fitting on the boat. If I had dropped a wrench on it while underway the ocean would try to fill my boat. Any idea when the zincs were changed in the heat exchangers? I’m asking because I’ve got one engine that I believe the prior owner said doesn’t have a zinc and is sea water cooled. (WHAT!!!!!… I must have misunderstood him…I hope…) I’m changing all engine water pumps, impellers, hoses, broken hose clamps because they are not 316 SS, using band clamps on wet exhaust hoses….and on and on. Just curious about the zincs on your exchanger to help me understand if I should clean my exchangers or just replace them. Very much enjoy your channel. I don’t drink coffee but you are making me want to try it again. I already have the cookie eating part down pat. Especially those addictive Dutch Butter cookies. I changed the zincs in the heat exchangers last year and the looked used but where not dead. The dual oil coolers who caused the damage, are from 25yo and those had no zincs. Cannot tell if a zinc would have protected me from this pain, since damage is exactly the same on both units; on the engine part and not on the gear.

Thanks for the response. My Yanmar 3GM30FV spare get home engine’s heat exchanger doesn’t have any zincs per the manufacturer. It has a small transmission oil cooler mounted on the back and I’m thinking of changing it based on your troubles. My generator heat exchanger on the other hand has a zinc but is electrically isolated. This is because the copper spade lug on the unit which is marked “Attach ground wire to engine here” had no wire attached. Flushed it with Barnacle Buster the other day and learned that that it dissolves zincs. So the new pencil zinc I had installed a week ago dissolved while I was flushing the exchanger in a tray. Resigned myself to change all hoses, water pumps, raw water impellers and most of the oil and fuel lines on all three engines. Most hoses I’ve taken off are either age cracked or were installed so they rubbed on items and have cuts in them. Good luck with your boat. Looking forward to your calming videos to help temper work strain of the tasks on my boat.

Hoi Henk,Nou dat was me wel een show in jou vorige aflevering het zat je niet mee daar in Engeland en op de terug reis pfff en dan ben jij weer eindelijk thuis minus 1 motor om dat deze echt stuk ging onderweg terug begeeft de andere motor het ook duik ik gelijk naar die aflevering in naar je link om ook die aflevering te gaan bekijken helaas daar had ik niet de juist software voor en mij oude laptop en oude software trekt dat eigenlijk niet meer De show van vandaag is een mooie reis van Amersfoort naar verder Henk is er ook een andere manier om jou te steunen? helaas heb geen CC anders had ik wel de thanks knop gedaan
