@@SailingOneLifethanks Gary and everyone for sharing Minerva Reef with us. It was quite an education for me because I remember the GBR - Great Barrier Reef - used to look like that. I'm 75yo now but I did a lot of diving on the GBR as a teenager. It looks nothing like that now, it's just a grey desolation. We're told that it's all down to the sea temps but I wonder if that's only part of the problem? There's still a lot of chemical run-off from the sugar industry on the Q'ld East Coast as well despite all of the reforms to farming practices.

Being a member of your PATREON makes these videos double fun and interesting- tracking you in real-time on the map and with updates-then watching the footage of it a short while later. Wow. Minerva is cool. Lucky Rich was there to show you those spots but I guess it always works out somehow. Did you talk to any of the bigger boats on the passage and did they pass you? That would be nice to know there are other faster boats behind you. I like how Gary said all the noise and bouncing around and watch schedule all seem to harmonize a few days in. But those tacos looked awesome so I just thawed out some salmon for teriyaki tacos later!

Good eye..... we didn't realize at the time but we believe during this sail is when our staysail shroud toggle cracked (which we didn't realize until after we arrived in New Zealand). When we found it we immediately thought about the wiggly stays during this sail. We were extremely lucky, this sail could have ended much differently for us. 😬

Does Hannah scuba dive? Maybe she could start 🧜♀️🌊👍🏻

Hannah isn't certified to scuba dive and unfortunately a place like Minerva Reef isn't a place for her to learn. Maybe she will want to get certified one day though!

Great vid guys - as usual, Gary - what do you do for prep to keep the water out of your mask - I also have a full beard and have trouble keeping it out, especially ponds at my nose inside the mask which is really awful

I actually don't do anything special to get my mask to seal! Beard or not I never seem to have a problem. I'd suggest that perhaps a different mask might fit your face better and form a seal. Maybe head to a dive shop and see if you can try a bunch of different masks in the pool until one works?
