Hi Andy, I've been binge watching your videos because I received an offer on Friday and need to get back to the recruiter on Monday. I need your advice. During one of our previous calls, the recruiter asked about my salary expectation and I told her that I'd like to learn more about the position before I could determine that. I asked her for the compensation range and that was actually lower than my current salary. I told her what I was making and said that I expect a raise from that because I now have more work experience. She threw out a number slight higher than what I was making and I replied that I could consider it but I'd need to learn more before I could make a decision. Since then, I researched the position and found the total compensation she proposed is at the lower end of the market range. I received a job offer on Friday and it was exactly the number she proposed during our earlier call. I want a 10% raise from what I've been offered, this would get me to the higher end of the market range and that's what I'm looking for. FYI, the total compensation includes the base, sign-on bonuses for year 1 & 2 and some RSUs. Do I still have a chance to get the salary that I want?

Hi Andy, thank you for all your guidance. My question is in regards to answering the salary expectations when completing an online application. How would you answer such a question when you are only given a small/short space to do so. Often these are required entries and to say that there is much to consider (about other benefits, etc.) is not possible. Would something like TBD or negotiable be a good answer? Than you and keep up the great work.

Hi Andrew, As messed up as it may sound, I am planning to move from Missouri to Cali to be close to the family. I have applied for a job that is a step down for me. The Interview went extremely well. I could sense that the panel absolutely loved me. In Missouri, I am currently a manager for project managers and the job I applied in Cali is a individual contributor role as a project manager. How do I negotiate the salary.
@andylacivita

Just negotiate as though you were pursuing that position and set aside any of the internal thoughts you have about your position in Missouri. I would recommend using all of the same salary negotiation techniques I provided in my salary negotiation playlist. Lots of luck with this and good luck on the move!

I'm currently separating from the military and have received my first job offer. I'm currently trying to negotiate the salary. The interview board (3 people) said I killed it, and the recruiter also came back and said I did very well..... My question is- HR is in charge of the salary offer, but all of my communication is through the recruiter. So far I've sent 1 email with a brief counter offer on the salary (realized email is a no go after watching this lol). Do you recommend I call up the recruiter and continue talking through him or ask for HRs number and talk to them? Thank you

Amazing videos on salary negotiations Andrew! Been really insightful! I am currently in the process of the initial stages of the application process for a few companies. I have made the mistake on the applications by answering the initial “What’s your salary expectation?” question before watching your videos. What’s a piece of advice to recover the negotiation process for later stages of the process in stead of the recruiters taking my initial answer as the salary I want? Also, what do you do if they say, “ number x” is the maximum they offer?
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Lean on the fact that you didn't understand the scope early in the process and you've learned more. As far as the amount in the offer, that will be determined by the value you convince them that you can bring to the table.

Hi Andy - I have become a BIG fan in recent days... literally... The recruiter stated the salary range in the first interview (60k to 70k), simply replied with "I'm looking to see if I will be a good fit with the team". This opportunity came to me as I recently lost my job to COVID and will be back filling a friend of mine who recently got a promotion in the company. So, she is my reference which has sped up the interview process. So, with the story set and during this pandemic, when the offer is made, how do I negotiate? I was hoping to be compensated around 79k to 89k, but thinking to play it safe between 75k to 85k? Let me know, thanks for your advice in advance. Side note - have many colleagues of mine in similar situations and having them turn to you during this current time in our country.

I asked them, You're well established company with best management, can you please let me know, what is your budget? And the reply was..we didn't know yet. My question might be unusual; I’m about to receive an offer. The offer might be “really” good based on the range mentioned by the employer (because I’m smart and didn’t give a number when I was asked; thankfully 😎). If the offer comes in within the higher end of that range, this can be double what I make now! I need help processing the following in my head, am I worth that much? Or was I just good at the interviews? I mean, I’ve read the job description, I know I’m good, I’ve had 3 rounds of interviews .. but the pay makes it look like I’ll be given some bigger responsibilities than I thought! Or maybe I’m just a little underestimating my own worth! Anyone has had such situation? How would I process that in my head?
@bleuciel12

Not sure I agree with giving them a salary range. Because then they'll just offer the lowest part of the range to start with and will tell you can 'grow' afterwards in the higher part of the range. That's what happened to me anyway...

Hi Andrew. Would it be ill advised to ask for more compensation because one could be on the employer's *ish list or they could forever have a higher expectation of your performance. I would hate to make promises I can't keep because the fact of the matter is we won't know for sure what the work situation will be like until we are actually there. At the same time we want to get the most we can.
