I’ve struggled with acne for 2 years and for me I’ve noticed that salicylic acid helps control the surface level pimples but benzoyl peroxide is extremely affective in dealing with acne as a whole and deeper penetrating acne. So if you have minor pimples I’d say go with salicylic acid but if you can acne that’s flared up and red then go with benzoyl peroxide

Carefull with that. I've seen endless people complaining about it on forums: it can have severe side effects ans create crust on top of the skin over time. It often throws skin out of balance for a very long period of time. American dermatologists love it for fast results but don't really care about long-term effect. Here in Europe it's far not as common as it is in the USA. It's always better to start from your hormones and visiting a good endocrinologist.

Also, if you think the cause of your acne is due to something internal (the best example for you is...imagine you are allergy to something you ate and you get hives (a raised bump on the skin) and not just due to oil & bacteria on top of the skin...I would really ease up on both Salicyclic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide.

I love Dr Drays channel much more than the time I was spending on the Skincareaddiction subreddit. I swear almost everyone over there is loony

Same, everyone just repeats the same information there (on top of that often incorrect). And I realized who I was taking advice from... none of those people are dermatologists lol

I got really bad dandruf everywhere (head, eyelashes, eyebrows, etc), on top of that, I got oily skin. I don't get bacterial acne, so, salicylic acid makes more sense. And it works like a gem.

I’m weird I guess. BP doesn’t irritate me but SA makes me feel like my face is slowly melting off!

Melissa Roa same, the top layer of my skin starts to like shrink so I get this weird texture then the next day it peels and burns

@@noelleaf1288 Same, the texture of the skin after the salicylic acid is similar to saran wrap? :I I use Paula's Choice 2% BHA (black bottle). eh :c

Ethe Rike exactly!!! I didn’t know how to describe it. It like if you take plastic wrap and lightly crinkle it 😭 idk what that is

The CeraVe SA cleanser is really hydrating, I think it has a low percentage of SA
@itsjjallday5 жыл бұрын
I think formulation has a lot to do with it. As a teen, I used Neutrogena and it did melt my face off, especially around my chin and jaw. As an adult, I can use SA with nearly zero melting as long as I give my skin a break on the actives.

I used to try A LOT of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide products but they would always dry out and exacerbate my already existing acne. I just have very sensitive skin but I do want to try that Cerave face was because of how hydrating it seemed in your review video. 😍😍

Emily Hefferon I have to look at the tube when I get home (I’m at work) but I will reply! I honestly don’t remember if it’s percent but I only use it at night and I use something else during the day. I will put everything I use in the comments & some tips they gave me for my specific skin type. Idk if it will work for everyone.

Great to learn about the 4 components of acne 👏. Also learned so much about SA and BP 😍 I am so pumped. I now plan to use SA on my blackhead-prone T-zone, and BP on my armpits 😊

I found the first benzoyl peroxide wash that didn’t destroy my dry skin. I only use it once day when I have active breakouts - especially on body acne. It’s called AcneFree and it’s only 2.5% which is perfect. I’m absolutely loving it

Tabatha Poelstra I’ve been using it for 3 months, it works! It has same ingredients as proactive for 1/3 of the price. I saw results from acne free in a matter of a week.

Thank you Dr Dray , You're the best! Since you recommended the Neutrogena Oil free (salicylic acid) acne wash for black skin, it's all I've been using for a month now and I've seen so much difference. I have also ordered the Zapzyt salicylic acid wash, I can't wait for it to come... Have a great weekend.... Love all the way from England! Xx

PSA: IF YOU CANNOT TOLERATE BPO, LOOK AT THE PERCENTAGE YOURE APPLYING TO YOUR FACE!!! i am using a 2.6% bpo and it has done MAGIC to my skin. the cetaphil one is amazing. studies have shown bpo can be just as effective at all percentages and lower percentages are much more gentle and less drying. the cetaphil formula also contains MICRONIZED BPO which more gentle and effective than other forms. this formula also contains zinc and licorice root which are super calming. HIGHLY recommend for acne (:
