I’ve struggled with itchy skin rash under my armpits especially in the summer since I was a teen. I have gone to the dermatologist and was given a script which worked but the medicine has gotten expensive over the years. An esthetician suggested an acne wash with benzoyl peroxide and it has been life changing.

Great recommendation! I use PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash Benzoyl Peroxide 10%, and I find it is an important component of my acne treatment. (I also use glycolic acid and rosechip oil.) I leave the face wash on for a little longer if I am having an acne flare up. Although I wash my face with it in the morning and evening, I have not experienced negative effects on my clothing or bed clothes. I am careful to rinse well and pat my face dry with a towel.

Hi Dr. Dray, I am 52 and have always been blessed with beautiful skin...until I turned 40. I struggled for a decade with rosacea and flaking. This last January I started taking excellent care of my skin. Added consistent use of vitamin C, Sunscreen, Salicylic acid and even a mild retinol. But I have CLOSED COMEDONES. What the heck? Never had these before. So sad.
@longliverocknroll83335 ай бұрын
I too had beautiful skin for most of my life, and I never suffered from acne during my teenage years, a few pimples here and there would happen, but nothing tragic. Then, around age 45 (I am now 59), inexplicably my cheeks began to fill with closed comedones, right on my cheeks, and it was a horrible thing to see because there were so many of them that my cheeks looked like the skin of an arbutus! No dermatologist has ever been able to fully explain the causes, but I was told that part of the cause was hormonal. The only thing that worked great for me was (and still is) tretinoin, combined with a very simple and basic skin care that includes centella asiatica. Vitamin C, on the other hand, made the situation worse in my case.

I would get your thyroid checked. I haven’t heard Dr. Dray discuss this, though I might have missed it. I developed cystic acne on my cheeks after forty. It was caused by low thyroid. They went away completely when I was treated for low thyroid.

@@SyKnife Hi, thank you very much for the advice, but I have already done all the necessary tests and my thyroid is perfect. There's nothing physically wrong with me, as I said no doctor has ever been able to fully explain the cause, but thyroid and other diseases have been ruled out, so honestly stopped wanting to look for the reason. Fortunately the tretinoin, which I tolerate very well, did a great job, and whatever these white dots were, they completely disappeared after about two months of constant use. I'm continuing to use tretinoin because since have been doing it, my skin has become very beautiful again😊

Hi, can you help clear up some things regarding salicylic acid use while on minoxidil? Salicylic acid is great as a face wash when you have acne but apparently it affects you negatively if you are a minoxidil user for hair loss. Apparently any salicylate use makes minoxidil less effective whether you use oral or topical salicylates as topical salicylates are absorbed through the skin. Can you help shed some light on this as many minoxidil users may be unaware of this and use salicylates daily for acne whilst not being aware that it makes their hair loss treatment less effective

PSA: If you use BP cleanser as a deodorant under your arms, if you have hair, you will end up with bleached shirts and whatnot, especially when you sweat. The BP seems to soak into the hair. This info is just not on youtube, since all the women who do it, likely don't have underarm hair, so they just don't know. I recommend instead using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% toner. Works absolutely awesomely, I do that once every like, 3 days (my right armpit is different though and only needs it like once every 2 weeks, interestingly).

Ma'am I need a help from you. I've been suffering from acne prone skin , blackheads and whiteheads. I also have hyperpigmentation around my eyesides and uneven skin tone. I have combination skin. For all these breakouts I'm treating myself with tretinoin(0.025) at night time. I've heard that AHA/BHA cannot be applied at the same time with tretinoin . But ma'am can I use BHA product at the day time and tretinoin at night? I am 20 now... Ma'am can you please kindly tell me about this?🥺🥺
