Rescued from nature! On this episode, we begin our '65 Mustang Trashback revival with the hopes of taking it on a 1,000 mile trip, as part of the Hot Rod Power Tour, and possibly making it the world's worst operational Mustang Fastback.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Oh, no! You took out the rain-strainer/interior-ventilation feature! That's why those factory holes were put in that roof, don'tcha know. Wishing you continued success with this lightweight 'Stang. Heck, a Briggs and Stratton would take this car 0-60 in nuthin' flat! It was lovely to see your Mum sittin' back and enjoying life. As we say in Southern Hawai'i...aloha, y'all!

I sure am glad my '64.5 rebuilder is a lot more solid than yours. The only rust repair I had to do was the usual front floorboards. That disk brake set up is aftermarket. Our Mustangs came with drum brakes on all four wheels, originally.

If that was POR you put on under the hood.. I feel sorry for you. That stuff HATES UV and needs to be top coated, but it dries so hard that you have to top coat it while it's still sticky or the paint won't stick to it like putting enamel over chrome. I coated a rear sill on our 65FJ40 we used to have and within a week it started turning chalky and you could wipe the surface off and within a month you could peel it right off. But then Northern California sun is a little more intense than Georgia, even though it was in the garage. That moment that you buy a caliper rebuild kit and find out that it's the wrong one because you bought a kit for stock calipers and somehow your POS has Shelby GT350 calipers on it. I have to argue with you Tim, the 8/9 inch style differential is FAR less convenient it's just WAY stronger.. Having to pull the driveshaft, the wheels, the brakes, the axles just to even check your gear lash is a PITA, the cover makes setup and even changing from an open diff to locker FAR easier, it just isn't as strong as the one piece housing. Hell Dana 60's 80's and 90's are full floating axles that you don't even have to open the housing to pull the axle out, something that Dodge adopted on their truck axles. A Winter's Quick Change is the easiest rear end ever to do any maintenance or changes to, hence the name, they just are expensive and not as strong... but the ability to change the gear ratio in less than 10 minutes can be useful. Remember two rules when working with rust: 1) heat is your friend.. it really helps loosen up stubborn rust to get things like that rear end plug out. 2) It can't be tight if it's liquid. A torch is your best friend when things just won't come out no matter what you do.
@OldTimeRevival
@OldTimeRevival 3 ай бұрын
We have a hood so the POR 15 should be fine. Regarding the diff/rear end info, I'm not an expert by any stretch. I appreciate your comments on it. How can you tell Shelby GT350 Calipers from the non-Shelby GT350 ones?

Tim, Yes to most of your statements. It is strong, it is waterproof, it is a carcinogen and it is very useful. You should be wearing a mask, that is the minimum. We, of a certain age, have done many things that are detrimental to our longevity. We will always have fun and if we live as long as Sally and my dad, I will call it good!
